I'm glad you looked at it from that perspective. I did have the lease scanned and on my phone. I'm going to print and carry the page that states: NO OTHER PERSONS SHALL HAVE THE RIGHT TO USE OR OCCUPY THESE PREMISES UNLESS:... I really think i'm going to try to reason with him and maybe even be able to leverage the lease as the "bad guy".

It is a very official lease from a large lumber company that states it is my responsibility to keep all persons other than those listed on the lease off the property unless accompanied by one of those listed on the lease agreement. Edit: I will verify that tonight though.

He told me he was carrying it in case he ran into trouble. He was not hunting. But you are right, it didn't strike me as odd until his motive became clear.

I'm glad I could spice things up a bit, but I'm already tired of talking about it! I'm getting all torqued up about it again reading all of these replies. I have decided to call the ECO in the area and just talk with him or her (depending on which one calls me back). I will approach it as asking for advice, not trying to make a problem. At least that way they will have a history if something does come of this. I won't be intimidated by this guy and his son, but I sure as hell am not getting into an altercation of any sort over it. I'm going to talk to the DEC, not the Sheriff and let it settle until the next time we see him.

And I wish I would have paid more attention to the gun, but didn't break eye contact with him. It could very well have been a mini 14, Not sure why I assumed it was a ruger .22, which would have made more sense if he was afraid of a bear.

Well to begin with he walked into my driving path holding a rifle. Clearly an attempt to intimidate me. He was not hunting and was on our property. I considered that to be threatening. He said was carrying the rifle in case he ran into trouble and gave me a look, again, trying to intimidate me no doubt, but maybe he meant the bear everyone says lives there. I don’t know, but I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt on that one. When I stated that we will respect property lines and expect the same he said he didn’t know what I was telling him and said I am an armed citizen and no one is taking anything from me. There was no doubt that he was trying his best to bully and intimidate me with a gun in his hand.

Oh I know, not a bad photo of you and I wasn't knocking anyone, just saying it added to the confusion big-time for me. I personally was debating going with Grew-a-lot, but I actually miss her so I didn't want to stir the pot in hopes she will return some day.

I made the switch to fixed blades for the first time in many years. I picked up a pack of Magnus Black Hornet Serrated and shot them yesterday. First shot at 30 yards was DEAD NUTS, went out to 40 and had to rotate to the larger spot on the target to be able to see it, but pretty much dead nuts as well. Can't wait try them on a deer.

Done. Name changed, FatBoy is gone forever, along with the bike that inspired it! I sure miss it.

I AGREE 100%. But I'm not making things worse by escalating the problem, especially when firearms are in the mix. I guess I'm going back and forth on contacting LE and making a report just yet. The Hunter harassment thing is real. He basically said as much about the other guy who borders our property next to him because that guy had the balls to put up a sand too close to HIS LINE??!!!!

I'm not contacting the lumber company at this point, they are located hundreds of miles away and I'm sure they aren't going to want to deal with it. If there are real problems down the road, then I will talk with them. I'm expecting to run into people this year as it has been a free-for-all to the locals for over 10 years according to most of the people we've talked to, I think we are the first to lease this property. So, though the evolution of this encounter I think we have realized this IS going to happen this year, hopefully not moving forward.

The oaks are 100% real, you can't walk two steps without stepping on them and the thick areas are all berries. It seems to be too good to be true. The 22pter and giant bears... I have no evidence of that, but one can hope. One of my sons did say yesterday, "there is clearly a reason so many people want to be on this hill". Judging by how much the place is coveted by the locals who DO hunt, maybe it's true. The guy with the bear pic doesn't hunt, so I tend to believe him a bit more, he was a no BS kind of guy, and everyone I have seen asked me if I have seen it yet. Yesterday we put signs up along the road and each side of the gate. All bordering neighbors now know we are there so there is not much more we can do. I'm sure we will run into people during gun season, which may not be the worst thing in the world, keep things moving around. No one seems to bow hunt the area which is what we are most interested in. We decided at this point we're not going to make an issue out of anything until we see what actually happens. We all like to talk $hit now and then, hopefully these guys will behave. I do like the idea of putting a stand in front of theirs though, after some beers yesterday, one of my boys actually said, we simply need to buy some 4x8 sheets of plywood and put them on posts 5 feet in front of their stands at eye level! now THAT's funny... but honestly we don't even want to hunt the areas they are shooting into, it is literally 100 yards from where we will be parking and the second stand is another 100 yards in on the access road. There is a LOT of sign there ,but there is another 93 acres that is WAY better and where the deer are coming FROM. The real issue to me is shooting in AT us, it's a safety thing as much as anything else. Fingers crossed things just work themselves out.

Very true! All of the spots on this piece of property that we are hunting are no where near the borders, in fact we are having trouble deciding where to hunt, trails are everywhere. I hope it ends up being as good as it seems and what the locals are saying.

Well We are down here sighting in with broadheads, no sign of the jerk, but two other neighbors stopped to say hi. Nice people, both said that guy is a good dude. I said nothing about yesterday. Maybe he was just feeling me out, time will tell. Good news is that the Magnus heads are awesome! Pic below of my First shot at 30 yards! My son is just about dialed in with his new Vertix as well.
