I'm taking a ride up to Neversink tomorrow to help my buddy get his place together and check the stands for the season. I'm sure we'll take a walk around scouting as well. A lot will change over the next 3 weeks before rifle opens but I'll let you know what we find.

The deer is dead .....somewhere. I think the Mods should probably take this whole thread down for a lot of reasons. Just sayin...

Karma has a funny way of catching up with thieves. Sorry to hear that you got beat by this bum.

I had this up last year but since it's sat in my safe all year I'm trying again at a lower price. Ruger .270 Bolt Action with Rings (No Scope) plus 5 boxes of PMC 130 gr. ammo - $500 This is the Red Butt Pad, Slide Tang Safety manufactured in the 80's. The Rifle is in great shape, Blueing is very good and the stock is nice with no serious chips or scratches ( it does have some normal minor dings from carrying while hunting). All Safe Act Law Requirements complied with and Buyer pays for Backgroumd Check and Shipping if necessary. I'd prefer Face to Face if possible and will travel as far as Gander in Middletown if needed. I'm in Westchester and have used a FFL Gunsmith in Mt Kisco for the last few sales. He's been great to deal with and charges $10. The 30-30 in the pic was sold last hunting season.

30-30 Lever action at about 50 yards In the snow on State land up near Windham -
Hey Chef, how the heck are you? I lost your number but was hoping that you were loving my old 30-30. Glad to hear that your happy and will be hunting with it this year! Good luck, shoot straight and let me know how the hunt goes! I pulled Doe Tags in 3n so I'll be hunting with my 44 Mag again. No rifle zone again this year

35 years ago (or so), 2 friends and I had access to a parcel of land up in Cairo that was owned by a couple of other friends who bought land primarily for investment. It was honestly the time of our lives! We had nearly 60 acres of private posted land to ourselves to hunt and camp on. We all took deer and turkey out of there every year and enjoyed the camaraderie of campfires, cooking over the coals, telling tales over a few adult beverages in the evenings and hunting out of our tents. When the snow came we'd motel it at the ultra luxurious Cairo Valley Lodge. ( a true dive if there ever was one, but at least there weren't any bedbugs!). After a few years one guy sold his due to a divorce and the 8 left over acres was soon surrounded by houses. After that we pretty much hunted wood lots around our own homes in Putnam and bow hunted Westchester, but it was just day trips and wasn't the same. Eventually time went on and both buddies moved out of State and that was pretty much the end of it. I hunted with another good friend for awhile who had a camper on 75 acres up in cochecton and that was great until he sold it off. I've tried hunting clubs and such but never found the same feeling I had back in those early days. I go out once or twice a year now on state land in Putnam but it's more just to spend a day in the woods than hunt really. ( although if I see one I want it gets a hot load of 44 mag and I get to enjoy some venison!)

I'll give it a try, the Sawyers I used this year didn't seem to work as well as in the past. I'm not sure if the ticks are evolving or it was a bad mix, but I've got to try something before I give up! The bag seems like a good idea.

I like the shot of the running deer. Very nice shots

Best Place to Retire Away From Snow in East Coast???
Firenailer replied to halfnelson's topic in General Chit Chat
Nothing like a new piece of quality equipment to cheer a man up! Works for me every time! -
Sounds like a good idea. My Beagle used to hate walking on the roads with all of the salt. Unfortunately she was also too damn stubborn to allow anything on her feet either. But hey, Beagles are like that...

We wound up,with about 9" of snow and a nice 3/4" layer of ice. Said an extra prayer to Our Lady of Toro and blew out the driveway without too much trouble. Stuff was darn heavy to shovel off the deck and walkways though!

Best Place to Retire Away From Snow in East Coast???
Firenailer replied to halfnelson's topic in General Chit Chat
There isn't any perfect place. I had a Sister down near Richmond and I never cared much for the area. Too hung up on the Civil War, really poor snow removal ( like 2 days later ) and beastly hot and humid in the summer. I built a couple of houses and renovated one down in Cary NC and it was nice enough but I didn't connect with it. The Blue Ridge Mountains were nice but get quite a bit of snow so you're not gaining much except better taxes. I've got a Brother down in St Augustine Fla, and it's nice enough, but it's Fla. I ain't dead yet..... I'm looking hard but keep coming back to NY. I think I'm staying. -
Kensico Reservoir Boat FS
Firenailer replied to BizCT's topic in Non Hunting Items For Sale and Trade
That's a great price for that reservoir and boat area! Good luck with the sale Biz -
Thanks guys, I'm surprised it's still there too! I'm guessing not too many guys have really seen how well the .270 does on game. I'm thinking I'll just keep it in the safe and if I don't shoot it much again this year at the Range I'll list it again before hunting season. I'll agree with Pygmy though, that gun is as accurate as anything I've ever shot. I left it out in Colorado for 10 years as I used to hunt there every year with my ex Father in Law and reaching out 300 Yds for Mulies was no problem!

Without knowing your age or how long it's been since you normally worked out its hard to give a concrete answer. Your cardio and stretching sounds good. If you haven't performed resistance exercises in some time - before you start to lift heavier weights or even think about doing the 2 or 3 set / 10-12 rep routines, you need to get your body ready to exercise. For the first couple of months ( if you're older and don't work out) 1 set of each exercise using low weight and a high repetition. ( like a 10 lb curl 25-30 times). Do that for each muscle group that you're working on. All your doing is getting your muscles and tendons flexible and ready to exercise. If you don't all your going to do is push too hard too fast and injure yourself. After a month or two of preparing yourself, you can start to really target a more traditional workout.
