  1. 9K I have owned this 175 acres for 15 yrs , I am i the middle of an Amish community. 15 yrs ago, I would see 70 or so deer during bow season , many 8pt, 10pt, , big deer , so they are feeding good. I have seen about a 60% decrease in the population, shooting going on all the time , all year long. Opening of bow season , you would think was the opening of gun season. Predation is part of the factor here, always see and hear the coyotes, but I think as equally damaging is the poaching . I have asked many local Amish about it and they all say , yeah it happens all the time , but always , "'NOT ME, I WOULDN'T DO THAT" Bad winters , too many DMP s, excessive hunting pressure. I'm committed here , I will move into my custom log home in about 2 yrs, so no way am I selling . Many food plots in the future, so the deer won't have a reason to wander off, I'll even tuck them in at night, if I need too. Just need to here from others across the state if the population is changing.
  2. I was thinking about this quote yesterday and a 6pt pops up about 80 yds in front of me , moves closer and to my left , then I rattled my bolt off a few unseen twigs and then back to zero again.
  3. 1) In the last 10 yrs, in the areas you generally hunt, has the deer population increased or decreased? 2)About how much of an increase or decrease? (percentage wise) 3) In your opinion , what is the single most reason for the change? 4)In your opinion , what factors impact the population the most either positively or negatively? (list according to most impact to least impact)
  4. I've had my Foodsaver for years , works great with Foodsaver bags , generic bags are cheaper but don't work as well
  5. This is baiting , Texas style. 350 lb hopper
  6. So , that's what they look like ,have not seen many . Congratulations!!!!
  7. Update: I bought the Winchester Stallion from cabela's. High quality unbelievable accuracy . A bit on the heavy side , lifetime warranty , made in the USA.
  8. Got a little chilled too this morning , was ok until the wind picked up , only saw 1 turkey and no tracks in or out . Nice to have an inch of snow on the ground.
  9. Yes they use flashlights , mostly the headlamps , gas motors to run a pump for water , diesel or gas motors to run a main shaft in the shop to power equipment from a belt attached to the main shaft.
  10. Just got down to my camp , snowing, about an inch on the ground already. Can't wait to get out tomorrow with the Winchester crossbow.
  11. I'm actually in Napoli , I border New Albion on the north and Conewango Valley on the west. My mailing address is Cattaraugus.
  12. I would comb the area , it is already 68F . If it is dead it is not going to last past today as far as edible meat is concerned.
  13. Working Saturday , then heading down to camp for my usual 3 week hunting vacation. 2 weeks of xbow then gun, can't wait.
  14. Here is a picture of the bone structure. I think you hit the wide bone in the shoulder , scapula maybe is what its called.
  15. Enjoy the meat ,I'm still waiting on mine .
  16. Sounds like a solid shoulder hjit , all bone , no penetration , no vitals . Let it go overnight and pick up the search in the morning . Pictures of the blood would help , but I think you got solid bone.
  17. Don't think that CWD can be passed to humans . It is in the brain matter of deer (cervids). Wash it out good and do some research on your computer. If we don't hear from you , oh well , sucks to be you . LOL
  18. no picture showing up. What does your arrow look like ? Covered in blood or a little blood and stinky like a gut shot.
  19. I talked to my Amish neighbors, 21 yr old son on the way in tonight . He said he didn't know about any shots last Monday evening or anybody in the field in the rain . His younger , 14 yr old brother was with him and denied knowing about any shots fired. I'll talk to his father tomorrow , but either way , they know how I feel about poaching . If they know anything and won't say , at least they know I'm watching whats going on. I don't want to make it sound as if I'm accusing them of anything , just letting them know what I know.
  20. I ordered the Open Shot from Cabela's, should be here in a few days. I have a bunch of climbers like your API , but I need a lightweight climber to be able to get to some remote areas. I like the Open Shot for the weight and the price is pretty attractive.
  21. Good luck , he's just over the top of the ridge. Post the pics tomorrow.
