  1. I just got home , from camp and tried to shovel enough to get the truck in the driveway. After breaking 2 shovels , I said screw it and punched the truck into the driveway, snow flying , whiteout ,. I'll deal with it tomorrow. I'll take the snowmobile , if I need too.
  2. What crossbow and what was the name of the dampener. I was looking at them.
  3. I also hunted 10 days straight , saw a few deer ,I would have shot a doe If I had the chance . Problem was the locals( AMISH) had a war since the season opened , Shooting rifle before legal light and after legal light , wonder why I didn;t see many deer. One evening , I almost fell out of my stand, a shot was so close , on my land 400yds from any property line . If I catch one of these bastards , I will string them up by their nads. After I up my homeowners insurance. I'm pissed to say the least. DEC says they never have a problem with the Amish. Sorry for the rant , I'm hunting other areas away from the amish , for the gun opener ..,........................
  4. I was thinking Cherry Creek , but thats in Chautauqua co, Im thinking Leon ,S Dayton, Napoli, randolph, ellery, kennedy
  5. So this is in Chautaqua county , north of Jamestown , East or west side of Chataqua lake,
  6. This is typical of a rotting birch tree (not 100% sure this is birch) The bark is somewhat plastic like where it will hold together and rain getting in causes it to decay . Woodpeckers will then shred it looking for insects.
  7. ICF- Insulated concrete forms . I used them when I put in my foundation for my loghome . 1 1/2 " foam insulation inside and outside . Very cost effective , you can put the foundation walls together yourself , then have the concrete pumped or poured , depends on the height. My wife and I assembled the walls, had a contractor put in the footer and pour the walls .Saved us a bundle ,1500 sq ft . basement , look into it . I didn't read all the posts , so forgive me if this has been mentioned, but what about an outhouse if its legal. Check into a composting toilet, alternatives and way cheaper.
  8. Your kicking my butt, that's for sure . Congratulations.
  9. Hope you find him , can you put up a climber to get a good look around with binoculars ? much easier that slogging through all that water. He's most likely dead and half submerged.
  10. I know how you feel , my dad is 82 and was diagnosed with inoperable stomach and colon cancer , he said he won't be able to hunt this year. He was looking forward to hunting until he had a mild stroke that left him weak and numb in his right arm and leg, he can barely get around with a walker. He lives his hunting now through my daily updates and what I'm seeing and hearing .I desperately need to get a decent buck soon ,so he can live this season through me. Love you dad........................................................
  11. The third picture down........... Is that a Fisher , Martin?????? I had the same thing come by me yesterday, it was huge , about 10-12 lbs ,I'd bet . About 40"- 42" long .I saw him come across my hayfield on Friday afternoon , then in front of my stand Sat. morning.
  12. The first you remember forever , congratulations.
  13. I use climbers, so I set it up then hunt it right away
  14. They don't , that's the problem . DEC keeps giving out huge numbers of permits , thinking they are not getting filled.
  15. Saw just a fawn this morning in 9k, hunted the afternoon in 9s, Allegany St. Park, saw nothing , about 40 doe around the lake in the no hunting zone on the way out. k
  16. Fantastic buck , teach the young ones to have the same passion . Congrats...............
  17. Every year I see hunters in all camo on opening week of gun season in 9s, Allegany St park. . Almost always hunters from PA and Ohio. Don't know what their common sense laws are, but we tell them all the time , they need to wear at least an orange hat . Ya can't fix stupid...................
  18. Welcome to the forum,,,,,,, many hunters are experiencing what you are , no sign , good sign , no deer , many deer ,some chasing on and on .Just get out there and wait them out.
  19. I have been around the Amish for 15 yrs and not 1 has said they they report the deer , turkey or anything harvested. Don't know of any Amish with a cell phone or computer ,let alone internet access. Back when you had the mail in part of the license , very few said they ever mailed them in.
  20. 9K nothing moving , 1 lone hen turkey squawking her brains out, 4 hrs in the rain , hoping everything gets dry by 3pm
  21. I bought the Winchester Stallion crossbow from Cabela's, never knew they were into archery. Absolutely love it, quality product , lifetime warranty. Now if the deer will cooperate ..............
  22. I leave the silver skin on the backstraps , then cut it about 2" thick then cut into 1"thick leaving the silver skin to hold the 2 pieces together .We call them butterfly chops. Cook them on a George Foreman grill for 3-4 min.,DO NOT COOK THEM ON A GAS GRILL OR YOU'LL END UP WITH SHOE LEATHER. Key to cooking venison steaks is to under cook, rare or med rare , tender and juicy. Or low and slow for roasts.
  23. woodpeckers looking for bugs
  24. Use topo maps and find the hardest to get to , most remote area that you can find . Get in real early for the gun opener , stay all day, wait for all the other hunters to push the deer to you. Most, if not all state land , don't allow atv's, so a plan to get that buck out , is needed . Game carts ,if there are hiking trails or fire roads etc.
