Got a late start. Pretty sure I saw a buck sneak off on the way in... took the long way around to my stand and found a fresh scrape... definitely from this AM. Got to move stand after two weeks of no activity on my stand cam. Except the big 8 that was on there at 9 AM two Thursdays ago. ..

Nice deer! Back yard buck huh. I could see a light on in the pic. I know a guy who hunted in an area near but not in colonie... he used to pick and choose what bucks he'd take.

Any advice to keep poachers off your land?
BUCKANDAQUARTER replied to thunnus's topic in Bow Hunting
After hearing of problems like this on the land I hunt I volunteered to post the 150 acre lot I. Also informed the land owner of the consent release cards you can get. She was tickled pink. She pays the taxes, it's the least I could do. Good land is hard to come by I am sure someone will take you up on that. -
Actually I was going to get a Savage 111 in .270 just on a whim, when we were at dick's a month ago and she actually encouraged it. She said "oh ok"... then I looked around and said "you are talking to me right?!"... (I worked 80 PLUS hours a week all summer so she knew better than to say no!! lol). FYI My license has a po box on it, not my physical address, so I couldn't purchase it. I went to the dmv in the mall to have my physical address put on it and they said that is the address where they would send the new license... which means I wouldn't get it since I can't get my mail delivered here. Anyway, we are moving now so I can change my address on my license now.

I have goodluck carrying a firearm that is new, or new to me. First sit with my .308 I got my first buck. I carried my brothers .243 wssm for the first time and shot a buck at 300 yards. Got my muzzle loader and killed three deer within the first three sits (spread out over two different seasons). First trip out with my .25-06 I got a buck on Thanksgiving day afternoon ("the deer that ruined thanksgiving"). Within the first few sits with my new bow I bagged a buck. Basically the majority of my deer came with a new to me firearm.

You asked for help from others, on the forum and in the field. That is a lot more than some hunters I know personally would do. They are hearty elusive animals... it could be dead, or it could have survived, who knows? Take what you can from the experience. -

What I learned from my first true hunt today...

11 .1) Avoid crumbling leaves if TP not available -
Live from the living room... cranky because i had to take the afternoon off and move some stuff to the new house. [emoji24] It looks perfect out there... no wind...On a separate note I picked up a roadkill spike about 12 years ago... still very warm... hind quarters and backstraps were fine.

What I learned from my first true hunt today...

Welcome aboard! I learn something new everytime I go out. Today I learned that if I take my release off to add a layer put it in my pocket so I don't drop it from the stand.. which happened at first light. -
I'm baaaaacckk! I didn't think of the song until you brought it up... thanks. Had one good sized deer walk by head down to the ground over a little knoll... right where my stand was until I fine tuned my position two weeks ago. Oh well.

Well I just got settled in. Jumped one about a half mile from the stand. Then saw a fresh rub where I jumped one fairly close to my spot this AM. Took about 10 steps towards my stand there go two more. I knew I was in trouble when I saw deer all over on the drive up here. Have had deer on the trailcam every single day this week I have a feeling I just changed that!

Ran late for no apparent reason seeing as how i forgot my card reader and gloves. Not a puff of wind walking in.. got near my stand and it is blowing 15+. Jumped a deer 60 yards from my stand.

turns out I too was mistaken... found these about 50 yards from where I sat last night. I pray I get the deer that left these! Last year he snowballed me.
