Where are the pics. Hoping to get anything with my recurve this year..

Spikey-Spike Doee-doe monster cheater buck (my friend shot this one off of his uncle's porch in gun season) bi-ba-poo (aka big-buck-pool from a hunting club in Bradford, PA) dog (for those small yearlings that someone shoots for size comparison) Eleven pointer (for a spike because no one in my hunting crew ever shot a true 11 pointer)

Nice buck.

I was just wondering what everyone's plans were for hunting the upcoming full hunters moon on Nov 5. For me im still not sure if im 100 percent sold on the various theories regarding hunging after the full moon. For me i have always most of my success around november 8 through 11, but this year im not going to be able to make it out that weekend but instead have to opt for the weekend of November 3,4,,5,6. Other than all day sits anybody have any other tips...ie because of full moon being up and deer being outall nite movement will be more midday. Just curious how many on here are geared for that full moon philosophy.

Im located in 7P in chenango near afton and my property is loaded with oaks. small 6 inch trees to giant white oaks four feet across. That a ton of beech. Coventry is right down the route 235 from me. Good luck. I got skunked on opening weekend. didnt see a deer and missed a turkey hen with the recurve. Keep us posted (especially me) and let us know how the activity is going.

I was up opening weekend (we were 7M but since the change are now 7P) didnt see a deer in the woods hunting but midday to 3 pm saw plenty on the fields eating. A lot of hay pastures around my area off of Route 235

Nce pics. Is that a mink on the log?

Talk about disparity between land and deer population. I just posted pics of two 1 1/2 year olds in a post "Age of bucks" and after looking at these four pics i feel like im in a poker game with a pair of 3's and the guy next to me has four kings. Great bucks.

Well i was going through my trail cam pics over the weekend and started to inventory what deer were i was getting pics of. It turned out to be fairly easy since two of the regular does that were comming in with fawns each had a distinguishing mark on their ears ...one had a right ear rip and another had a left ear tear (close up pics clearly verified it wasnt just camera issues) The "right ear rip" doe has been in the little woodland plot all summer since it was first planted with buckwheat starting back in June. When she showed up then she was with a little buck that i assumed was a 2010 fawn and then pics later into the summer she showed up with her 2010 fawn ( a little spike buck) and two fawns in spots. I have pics of all four through october when the little spike came out of velvet. My question is could this little spike be from 2010??? i wouldnt think so if i didnt have trail cam pics of him and the right ear rip doe all summer (even had a few pics of them mutually grooming each others neck. So i assumed it was her 2010 fawn. Here is his pic along with a fork horn that passed through. I hope both are 1 and 1/2 yr olds because if the big fork is a 2 and a 1/2 then i have horrible genetics. Thanks.

Was review some trail cam pics from this June when I started my woodland plot. It appeared from the pics that after the area was disced and fertilized and seeded there was an abundance of deer grouped eating in the dirt area in front of the cam. Just curious if anyone has any experience or ever saw this before

Tom's is a great place and great family. My friend had two bears done by them and they camee out great.

Depending on what is in that field i would say hunt in spots 1 or 2 as they appear to be more of a funnel area but that is depending on the wind. I would find a good used deer run and hang a stand on the downwind side. Hopefully you canget a buck cruising by as it is getting closer to prime time. Also if satnd site is a bust you may be able to watch the other standsite (1 seeing 2 or vice versa if open enough) good luck and congrats on the kids.

New here, wanted to share some of my better trail cam pics
agross replied to SteveNY's topic in Trail Camera Pictures
Great IR pics. What camera is that? My bushnell trophy cam takes good daylight pics but the nite time IR arent that good. Great variety of animals. All i got on my cam was deer turkey and turkey buzzard (landed in middle of food plot) Hopefully she was a harbinger of death for the 8 pointer i got on cam in velvet a few weeks earlier. -
Oh and by the way the deer population in the area is pretty good. There are some good bucks around also but just have to find them.

If its the piece of state land that u can access from either cue ball road or davey road in the southwest corner or chenango cty where it meets broome county then yes i have been there several times but mostly for turkey hunting. Now depending when u are hunting oct or nov...because usually the prevailing winds in November are from the west... Entering from Davey Road (small not wide entrance to the state land) there is a parking area and a well worn logging trail / snowmobile trail that goes for a good ways...I was actually just there on Friday before openinng day looking for turkey. If you take the trail you will go through woods then old logged areas which have regrown horribly thick...but there was a bunch of runs criss crossing through this area. On a side note if you do enter off of Davey road hang a right as you go in and follow the stateland yellow marks on trees along the bordering posted signs as about 200 yds in or so there is a large apple orchard (old) just at the edge of the private land where it meets stateland. Maybe a good spot thick not to far away and some food...but later in season not sure how many apples are there. Now if you enter off of Cue ball road (which i have done numerous times) there is a very good (well in the spring it was) seasonal access road that travels straight for a long way. That area is mixed blocks of very thick pines on the right side going in and hardwoods on the left...seems pretty thick in areas to the left in hardwoods but to the right there are some longer shots possible for gun hunting down lanes of pines... As far as hunting pressure, cant tell you as i have never been there gun season for deer, I opt for private land for less aggravation. But im sure there are a few guys in there and considering the acces points im sure you are going to bump into someone. Now if this isnt the piece of stateland that you were talking about i just wasted all this time for nothing, well not really nothing as my option is to be watching old old reruns of the transformers cartoon with my 3 year old. LOL

I wish that AR would be implemented in 7P and yes it is because of the other guy that will whack everything with little antlers. (and those "other guys" happen to be some of my family and friends) However i do understand that a LOT of people who live in New York which we call upstate live on their deer harvest all year as a source of meat. My own uncle harvests about 3 to 4 deer yearly with his tags (and aunts and cousins) to put in the freezer for the year. With experience in Pennsylvania and their antler restrictions i think it would be great. The 3 point on a side rule may not be the idea management tool but it is (IMO) the easiest for the "if its brown its down" guys. Inside spread and other body demensions to age deer age better but take more patience. I have seen plenty of guys whack anythiong with antlers and then go and count points to see if it is legal. After year two of antler restrictions you get the older age class bucks to harvest (for the meat guys) and the enjoyment of seeing many yonger class bucks around for future years.

I hung a new 2011 Bushnell trophy IR camera over a woodland food plot this fall and was amazed at the reactions of the deer. Most of the does were used to the cam as they were feeding int he plot sinnce june but come the end of august and on when bucks started showing up i would get a pic of a buck as it was entering the field then on the 10 second interval i had the camera the next shot was of the buck hi tailing it out of the field. happened to 3 different bucks. I was amazed because it ws day light so no spooke from IR glow i guess it was a noise from the camera which amazes me since i have had it go off in my face taking pictures from a foot away and i could hear anything. Also the buck werent even walking towards the cam. It was a profile and two quatering away bucks. Amazing.

Yeah if it was me i would hate to be driving by with the family in the stationwagon. At 30 yards it appears as if he was parralel to the highway but at 60 it looked alittle scary. One slightly high shot and the arrow glances off the top to the target and goes sailing. Scary and unsafe. But intersting video regarding the sound.

I dont know about you guys but the anticipation is growing in me by leaps and bounds. Cannot wait until 6:00am to take that first walk in the dark to start the 2011 season. Although its not that far of a walk i am super pumped. Recurve is shooting well. Hung a new stand over a food plot which is growing great for a first time plot. Bushnell trophy cam awaiting me pulling the card and seeing what has been going on in that field near my stand since August 19, 2011. I honestly dont know what excites me more, getting in that hemlock with my bow or sitting down in my stand and checking the memory card while i await the dawn of opening day. Man i love hunting. Best of luck to everyone.

Burmjohn, Which bushnell cam is that??? The nite time pics look good. I just bought a bushnell trophy IR cam this year. Pics and videos are good (still have yet to try it in 8MP mode) but my nitetime IR pics only seem to get illuminated out to 30 feet or so and in a narrow cone in front of the cam. Great pics.

Im going to give it a try again this year. Past 3 years i break out the recurve for early Oct hunting. Have yet to get a deer and i am a little concerned about bringing it out during the rut. I still have that security blanket issue of compound gives with shots out ot about 50 asopposed to 25 with my recurve. This may be the year that i leave it all at home (compound and even gun) and just tote the recurve so i can get one under my belt.

I am new to this plotting thing but am becoming very fond of it fast. My question is this i planted an approx 1/4 acre plot in green patch plus mixed with clover plus from mossy oak...this spring in 2012 (regardless of how good the growth is) should i disc it all under and do a planting of buckwheat in early summer to then disc under in July to get a better soil make up??...like green manure. The expense is not that great for the seed for such a small plot so i was wondering if more lime and discing under all the green material this spring may help create better soil makeup. Since this spring i have been liming at about 100 llbs a clip (done in june, july and again in August). Although i never got a soil sample of this particular spot a nearby (100 yards away) spot had PH of 4.7ish, so i would assume that my spot is close to it. Let me know if you guys think it is worth it or should i just keep what i got going and do soil test in spring and then lime and fertilize as recommended. Thanks for any info.

I had it a few times sauteed in olive oil with salt pepper and garlic. Must say that i think that it was better than back straps wrapped in bacon (my real #1)

Although i have never harvested a turkey in my life spring or fall, i have had a lot of luck calling turkeys in the fall. Everytime i go in the woods bow hunting for deer i bring my knight and hale diaphram call model 110 and if the deer action is slow i rip a few kee-kee run calls. Almost every fall i get tremendous responses from flocks of turkeys...HOWEVER trying to get a shot on a flock of birds out of a tree stand with a bow isnt always easy when they are looking for that lost polt. It makes for some good excitement though.
