  1. Welcome to the board and to hunting...... Lots of experienced folks here to help along; don't be shy to ask questions.
  2. Uhhh...see thru rings Dudes a new shooter and hunter lets give him advice that starts him out on the right foot.
  3. I used to do long distance bike touring and still backpack. One gets thrifty on carrying only what is essential, and I still pack that way for everything. Most of where I hunt requires a 2-3 mile hike in and I always plan an overnight in general. Lazy got nothing to do with it......
  4. That jerky looks good.....not sure it would last 20 hrs around me.
  5. $5 Victorinox pairing knife in a day glo handle color does it for me, paired with a Havalon piranta
  6. Just quoting this one for posterity. Carry on.
  7. Combination licences in Montana have not sold out in several years due to the $1k price tag....they become first come first serve after the drawing date. The number available is on the Montana F&G website.
  8. I'll be the devils advocate for what could be a good or bad deal.... Booked more than a few hunts and the one I didn't do research on my own and trusted someone elses opinion was so-so. Hunting was decent, but I book for an experience of the total hunt. That may change on each persons expectations. These guys hunt there before? His website lists $750 for a pack fee on Elk, $450 for a deer.....pay for both.....how many folks drop both? Its very slim on pics, maybe he uses facebook and need a link. What unit and I would call F&G and want to talk to biologist about current trends; wolves? License fee for combined is close to $1000, that included? I'd all be saying for go go go.........done a bunch of travelling to hunt and frankly its been the best thing I have ever done, spent way more than I should have, and have VERY few regrets. Just saying maybe do a little home work. That's a bunch of coin and I like to put the edge on booking a "successful" one on my side.
  9. I've bought a few things from Opticsplanet. If you sign up for email alerts you can apply a discount to already on sale items that would make this even a better bargain.
  10. Make an extra house payment if you get some spare change.....you'll feel better. I just drained my hunt fund for a car, SUV is tired and have to have a way to get to work 100% of the time. Sucks, but it is what it is.
  11. I guess thats true by volume with the Carling, its dirt cheap. But what you see is Castle Lager all over and other Castle variations. Windhoek Lager is also very common, and although I'm not much a beer drinker its one of the few I will buy at dinner.
  12. Interesting choices. You don't see many Dakota's listed in these types of threads and even less so a single shot. As unique as when I list a Blaser or a Jarrett for a favorite rig. Good stuff.
  13. It was the mother of the lady you see grabbed trying to save her that was killed, she exits from the back seat. Seems like they think it's a Disney ride. Rash of these in South Africa a few years ago, and still a few here and there in some of the national parks with Lions.
  14. Did a forum hunt for Muledeer and took another offer for a discount hunt from a forum sponsor on another site......both were fun times. I see some of these turn into herding cats....LOL
  15. I'll swear for the bullets.... For those unfamiliar with the Trophy Bonded, they are upgrades to Jack Carters Bear Claws and would be a great choice if looking to upgrade for Moose/big Black Bear,Elk with their favorite deer rifle. I have taken many African plains game with them; both driven blisteringly fast in a 300RUM and in a more moderate 30-06, ranges from 60-300+ yds. Don't recover many, mostly from frontal shots lodged in the rear hams/Texas heart shot or tough game....these 2 broadside from what I consider to be pound for pound the toughest antelope, Gemsbok, just under the offside skin; Text book performance. Note the stamped "T" on the base, original Bear Claws don't have that and denotes the modern Speer version. Good deal with the Partitions and Corelocks thrown in.
  16. Dinsdale

    Fishing charter

I think that would be lots of fun.
  17. Thanks for the work that goes into keeping this up and running. And Happy Anniversary.
  18. Not too bad.... <<< I even added a avatar pic (selfie) Miss the recent posts bar to check threads and the unread content isn't as good.....
  19. I bought some Leica 10x42's this past year as they were around $850 new and fit the budget. I also had a store credit that I needed to use so that helped some of the decision. Compare pretty good to Swaro 10x42 Swarovision EL's for about half the price (http://www.eurooptic.com/swarovski-el-swarovision-10x42-binoculars-34110.aspx street price about 1799). But they are not lifetime warranty......possible long term downside. Banged them around for 3 weeks everyday this past spring hunting and glassing for birds and game and was pleased with the purchase. Lots of dust, in and off the truck, crawling in rocks, etc. even some unexpected rain. Cleaned up like new. At some point I will find the Swaro's EL's listed for sale on the used market when I have the free cash. But I don't regret the Leica purchase. Had some 12x56 Swaro's that I sold that were neither fish nor fowl....too big to carry, needed a tripod but not as good as a quality spotter. Bought them cheap and traded them for a rifle barrel IIRC. Generally I buy high end optics used, very easy to find good deals from folks strapped for cash on forums. High end stuff tends to be well cared for and have great customer service and lifetime warranties. Swarovski is about the best there is on that end for high end optics.
  20. The permathin based sprays like Sawyers are oderless and keep bugs off clothing and you get tick protection too. I worry about bugs in my taxidermy and let one of the bug bomb canisters go when I go away on trips to zap any critters hiding in the cracks.
  21. RIP Not even close to the tipping point. Going to be a lot uglier.
  22. Just hope you expand the server space with election season overlapping with hunting season this year. Won't be able to keep up with the political threads and don't want to lose any of them.
  23. Good girl Jenny.....make sure you get a biscuit.
