Yes, but males not holding a pride are forced to go solo and fend for themselves. Often they act in a coalition with another male, sometimes that will be a sibling.

I have a couple of lifesizes.... When anyone looks at this Nyala, they never say, "what a great animal with great horns, must have been hell of a hunt." No....they all take a peek and look for his junk and comment that it's there.(just hanging in the white of his inside/offside leg for those who also want to look close.LOL) Too funny.

First sign for me? I tapped my maples on Saturday and by the end of the week will have enough sap to start boiling.

Bought my first there when visiting family..... RIP.

As a teen took care of 9 baseball/softball diamonds for a little league. Went to UB for Architecture and did carpentry stuff between classes and worked for a country club doing grounds work summers full time. Worked in an Architects office wearing a suit and tie for one week and hated every minute. Quit to run a wood shop and draft plans for a design build company in the Hudson Valley. Run my own cabinet shop on and off, and did high end installs for a large shop for a few years down in NY City.Last few years I hire out to other contractors as a specialist doing exteriors/stairs/trim/cabinet work to help their crews.

Fancy Custom Built Rifle to Pass On
Dinsdale replied to dbHunterNY's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
Around the same age as 30-06...1905. Designed for a 286gr bullet as standard, but 250gr is also popular. Some push 320gr bullets for heavy animals. One game control officer in Rhodesia/Zimbabwe culled 1000's of Elephant and Buffalo with one. Even carried it as his back up when being a PH for clients with much confidence. -
Welcome. Elmo is still young and optimistic. We are not all friends even during hunting seasons.

Fancy Custom Built Rifle to Pass On

Ha....My 2 nieces will sell my rifles to the first lucky schmuck that comes along for 50 bucks each...... Hope its not someone I have on ignore here. Like to have a copy of Osa Johnson's 9.3x62 Mauser to play with and take on a hunt. You can google her....but in short she and her husband did a bunch of filming of safari hunts and exploring in Africa back in the 20's. Husband ran the camera and she did the shooting. They also filmed cannibal tribes in the South Pacific and had a few nasty encounters along the way. -
I work for a living in custom home building, so active during the day. My other outdoor hobbies include hiking year round, and backpacking so that adds some extra workout. I have a trail close by with 900' elevation gain in 8/10 of a mile, time on that will tell me where I'm at. Also have a county park with several miles of woods trails right in my front yard, so gets the dog moving too and off the couch. I have a New Zealand mountain hunt in May/June, so I'll start pushing my pace and carrying a medium pack. I hike with trekking poles and that helps with arms and torso some. I'm naturally lean and don't gain weight; but I eat well for the most part, don't smoke, drink alcohol and caffeine in very limited moderation. Have tentative plans for a 2016 hunt at altitude of 12-14000' that has me a bit concerned; thinking of plans for a real schedual for fitness for the first time as I get older(turning 50 this year). That will be the last hunt I need to list all 6 huntable continents as a personal goal.

Blued vs stainless???? Neither. Plasma Nitrited. Non glare black finish, heat treated hard as nails exterior (its not a coating, the finish is actually the steel of the barrel modified by heating the barrel in a vacuum and introducing nitrogen and a little argon or hydrogen), excellent weather and wear resistant. I own a little of everything.... Hot blued, rust blued, color cased, stainless, Ilaflon, plasma nitrated, a chemical coating similar to Cerakote,QPQ,Duracoat, Parkerized....... Wood, from birch to some pretty nice Turkish; several types of tupperware stocks, hand layed, chopped glass/bedding block...... I like em' all....

I had a BRNO 602 that was a 458 Win Mag reamed to a Lott (you can shoot Win Mag loads in a Lott, but not vice versa) With plinking loads you can play with one all day and the recoil is on par 45-70loads you are used to.

Stop by Ted's on Transit on the way, 2 foot-longs(everything on em') and a order of rings....large loganberry. There's an extra $5 in it for ya' if it gets here hot.

I past "need" a long time ago. Still like to fill in a few holes here and there. 22 Hornet single shot; 458 Win Mag boltgun ;450/400 #1 Ruger; 223Rem, 243Win,375HH for my switch barrel travel gun; Anything interesting that pops up.

Wood only for heat..... No problems here, burned shop scrap for most of this week, and will cover part of next.

That 20mm could be loads of fun.

It hurts because dogs are awesome and people suck.

Looking to get a shotgun barrel rifled.
Dinsdale replied to thunnus's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
There are a few folks making semi custom sxs's with sights and you can find older guns. Sometimes they have rifled chokes, they are called "paradox" guns, but that was a particular trade name coined by Holland & Holland. Shot & ball.....or buck & ball are others. Here a Spainish origin action, new manufacture, regulated to shoot Brenneke's, smooth barrel; http://www.gunsinternational.com/Bad-Boy-Shot-Ball-Gun-20-ga-NIB.cfm?gun_id=100456747 -
