  1. Yep, money talks that's for sure. My husband and I leased 75 acres of land for probably 10 years now from the landowner (for $500) and then this past September the landowner calls us to tell us that he leased it to some other people. He didn't even give us the courtesy to say "hey, these people are willing to give me more money...want to match it or beat the price?" What a bummer!
  2. Last night I saw 5 doe and a 6 point. Going back out now to brave the weather but this time I'm going to sneak through the hemlocks.
  3. Going to sit the last hour on a ridge 100 yards off the edge of a uncut cornfield. Hopefully I could catch a nice buck wanting to get a little snack before hunkering down for the night and the worst part of the storm.
  4. I shot a doe years ago that had it's entire lower jaw shot off. I was glad I was able to shorten the slow death she certainly would have endured.
  5. DanceswithSkunks Must be champions use Lone Wolf sit n climbs! Congrats on your PA championship! I also have won the PA Championship once or twice plus the NY State once. I also have won the I.B.O. National Triple Crown twice in the last five years. It was quite an accomplishment, I thought. I'm like you and don't have a quiver attached to my bow and haven't for years. I actually use a hand warmer muff (that would normally attach around your stomach) and use it as a quiver holder. I safety pin the bottom and then have my 3 arrows in a quiver that I put inside of the hand warmer. I then hang it off the tree along with my backpack, rattling antlers and binos using a multi hook strap.
  6. I also hunt PA and a couple years back I took my young nephew into a spot on opening day where I had seen a couple of decent bucks during archery season. It wasn't 15 minutes after light when I seen some guys walking through. I thought to myself, "What in the world are they doing????" Well, I mentioned to a friend that lives near there and he said if he knew I was planning on hunting there that he would have told me not to because some of those dudes were his relatives and they always push that entire hillside on the first day right after first light. Now what's up with that???? Gun season is the reason I love archery hunting so much. It's a whole lot quieter and with a whole lot less commotion.
  7. I have a wind shear sweater, jacket and pants that I bought through Cabelas. They are very pricey but very much worth the money spent. It's also amazing how much warmer my whole body is when I wear a very heavy hat instead of just a ball cap. My feet, now that's another story. I have 2000 gram boots and they do nothing to keep my feet warm. Oh, the glories of being a female....we are just prone to having cold feet no matter what! As for the weather....it's supposed to snow 7 inches or more Saturday night. Can't wait for Sunday to sneak through the wind and snow.
  8. Ever tried a Havalon knife? I started using one a few years ago. The blades are made of surgical steel (just like the surgeons use during operations). They are super sharp and can be used for the butchering of a few deer before the blade needs to be replaced. The replacement blades come in a 12 pack so they'll last for years. Check out their website.
  9. I hunt in Southern zones and the bucks are still scraping. Found a fresh scrape this morning that wasn't there yesterday. On Oct. 16th I watched 5 bucks chase a doe all over the place. Now that was early!
  10. Maybe a hole from an antler when a buck was nudging her to get up to have a little nookie?

    Nocturnal

The buck in my profile picture was shot last year on the 5th day of the gun season. He wasn't pushed by other hunters but was following a hot doe. It was 8:45 in the morning. I knew he was in those woods somewhere as I had seen him three times in archery season. He was definitely a shooter as he scored 142. So far this gun season I have put in 25 hours and the biggest bucks I've seen so far are 6 points. I've been seeing them right at first light up to about 9 a.m. and again right at the last minutes of light in the evening. None of them seem to be pushed by anyone as they are just walking slowly by. It's true that you can't get them by sitting on the couch so I spend every possible minute I can out in the woods. Hopefully I will see a shooter soon! Good Luck Everyone!!!!
  12. Dude. I know that all those deer aren't from one single hunter. I'm not that friggin stupid! I'm just talking about some of the NY hunters that whine that there's no deer and they wonder where they are...well it's because some people take WAY more than they need. My husband and I hunt both NY and PA so we can kill 12 deer between the two of us. Know how many we kill???? Two! That's all we need in a year. Why kill just for hell of it??? That's all I'm saying.
  13. Somebody had posted earlier a forum titled "Where are all the deer?" Well, I guess they are all there! I hear of people getting numerous tags and filling them all. Why??? Why the mass slaughter? What's the point? How can a normal sized family eat that many deer in a year?? As much as I love hunting, that picture really makes me sad
  14. Here's a funny story about pooh being left behind but not in the woods. A couple years ago my husband was ice fishing on Lake Chautauqua. He was fishing through a hole that was already there. He latched on to something and when he pulled it up through the ice it was a shopping bag. He squeezed it a few times to see what was in it and out of the corner oozed a brown substance which turned out to be pooh! Someone must have been fishing in a hut, had to pooh so they did it in a bag and then dropped it down the hole and then my husband caught it! He's the only person I know that's ever caught a bag of pooh while fishing! LMAO!!!
  15. I hunt in 9R. I sat in my stand for 10.5 hours and saw 10 doe and 2 small bucks. Taking the day off today because I have to work plus it's raining anyway. I'll be back at it tomorrow looking for "Mr. Big". My friend shot a respectable 9 point on the same property I hunt.
  16. I hunt in 9R. I was surprised not to hear any shots before daylight. There was a surge of shooting at about 8:30 and again about 4:30. Between 2:30 and 3:30 some yahoos were blasting their automatic guns....over and over and over again. It was very annoying. There probably won't be many hunters out today as it's raining right now and is supposed to rain all day.
  17. We've still got just enough snow for good visibility and seeing blood after the hit, although I'm sure it will be melted by midday. Honestly, I'm glad it's going to be somewhat warm for a day or so as I've been pretty darn cold while sitting in a tree the last week or so.
  18. Congrats! That's a real pretty buck. As they say ..... "Good things come to those who wait." Unfortunately, I'm still waiting.
  19. My husband doesn't do ANYTHING to remain scent free....no scent free showers, no scent free clothes, nothing! and then every year he shoots not only a doe but also a good buck off the ground with his bow. I don't know how he gets away with it although I think he may have a horseshoe up his ass.
  20. I won't be shooting a doe with my gun....a good buck or bear, that's all I'm interested in. I'll save my doe tag for the late season and try to get it with my bow.
  21. We have a pond on our property and let little kids fish it for fun (we pinch the barb on the hook so we don't hurt the fish too much). We use cheap hotdogs and the catfish love them!
  22. I have a funny story about ice fishing to share. A couple of years ago my husband was ice fishing with a couple of his buddies on Lake Chautauqua. He had drilled a few of his own holes to fish out of but then later he fished through a hole that was already there. He got a hold of something and pulled it through the ice. It was a plastic shopping bag. He squeezed it and out oozed a brown substance. Here it was a bag of crap! LMAO! Someone must have pooped in a bag while in their fishing hut and then they dropped it down the hole and then he caught it! We teased him like crazy saying he's probably the only guy ever that's caught a bag of crap! LOL!
  23. Bowhuntr1967, I'm sorry about laughing about the "tall hat" comment. It just really struck me funny at the moment. I really didn't even notice your "hat" until it was mentioned as I was in awe of how tall the antlers were on your buck. Good job man! Proud of you. Congrats again!
