  1. I don't hunt from either. I hunt right on the ground. Just as Doewhacker stated, I like to have brush behind me to break up my pattern and some low brush around my legs.
  2. I have hit the grunt already but never had any luck with it. Never tried rattling.
  3. I had a .280 when I was 14. So I would think that he would be fine with a .270 or a 30/06. Just look for a smaller load to start him off with.
  4. Congrats on your hunt. Looks like you had a good day afield.
  5. I took out my brother in law (before he was my brother in law) and I took out my sister's step son last year. In a couple of years I will be taking out my own kids (God willing). I always like to start them off small game. For one you see more animals and two it teaches them to sit, be patient and to be quite.
  6. Nice deer. I hope you can get him. Best of luck
  7. Sounds like this spot could pay off. Best of luck to you this season.
  8. I was turkey hunting one day and had to go as soon as I got on stand. So I took a piss about 5 yards from where I was sitting. About 3 mins later I heard this crashing noise heading my way. Hear came a buck and stopped right where I pissed and put his nose on the ground and continued to walk around until he just wondered off out of sight. So I just pee right were I am at. I don't walk away from my stand anymore to let it go.
  9. The largest deer drives that I have been part of was a 6 man drive. But now our gang (8 guys) sit all day. Once in a while we will put on a drive consisting of 2 guys driving and 2-3 watching. That is usally done on the 3rd to 4th day. Other than that we sit from dark to dark.
  10. Those are all nice mounts. Congrats to all of you guys.
  11. Up close and personal. Do you have the camera set up right on the trail.
  12. Always carry my knife on my hip. But I don't have to worry about falling out of a treestand. I hunt on the ground (if I fall it is about 18")
  13. I have a swift on my rifle and a bushnell on my slug gun. I have not had any problems with any of them.
  14. I would have to say PM for the bow and AM for the gun season.
  15. Speaking of back muscles, I just pulled one this morning at a barn fire. I will be ready though. Nothing that Skelexan (not sure if spelled right) can't take care of.
  16. Sorry to hear about your thumb. You will most likely feel better in the next week or two. Don't rush your recovery that could make things worse.
  17. Yes they always come when you are not prepared. The one looks like a spike buck.
  18. I can't tell. But looks like it was a good day turned bad real quick.
  19. Need to see it to believe it and rebal we need you to verify these pictures were taken from your friends camera and not downloaded off of the internet.
  20. That 2nd one is surely a fine looking deer. Hope you can get in front of him.
  21. I can ask the landowner where I hunt now to see if they know them. Thanks for all the input.
