  1. There are lots of them in mature forests in the adk's. Most don't realize how open mature forests can be, especially when you add elevation changes. The furthest shot of my life was in the woods ridge to ridge. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. They can be a little brutal, especially the 760's with a metal butt plate. I have aftermarket recoil pads on all my 7600's and they help. The carbines are certainly louder but not crazy. That being said I don't own a center fire rifle that I ever use with a barrel longer than 20" and most are under 18". Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. You do realize that a low number of hunters shoot a buck. I am willing to bet that if you took a pole of hunters who have killed a buck every year for the last 5 years that most of them killed 2 a year. Most hunters either don't put much effort into hunting or aren't good at it. Some don't want to be told what they can shoot some want bigger bucks some want to shoot the first deer they see and on and on. We have a grossly out of whack buck to doe ration in most of the state. Limit hunters to 1 buck and they will shoot more does and help balance the buck to doe ratio. I couldn't care less about shooting bigger bucks as I have no problem shooting them now with our current screwed up system. Although I may be a "sheep" in your mind I in no way think a 1 buck rule is an end all be all. I however think it is a compromise. The sad fact is without an overhaul on our season dates none of the proposals will make much of a difference. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. Most people that kill a buck every year kill 2. Most hunters aren't successful at killing bucks with regularity so they don't really matter in the statistics anyways. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. I disagree myself and many others are pushing for a 1 buck rule in NY a herd management idea that will actually help the herd and simplify the rules. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. I highly recommend the big loop! I don't own a lever that I haven't put one on. I don't wear gloves very often and if I do it's lightweight wool insert gloves. I find the big loop faster to get your hand in and easier on the hands to operate. I even had one custom made for my BLR. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. Just as Pygmy said 243 would be pretty low on my list for a "brush gun" lacks bullet weight for less than ideal angles. 30-30 although isn't my first choice is a much better choice for what you want to do. If a lever is what you're after don't over look a 35rem. Ammo is more expensive but it truly is in the shortlist when it comes to a brush caliber. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. I disagree, I know I look extra extra hard to make sure there aren't spikes if I no longer have a buck tag and am shooting a doe. On any given day even with a buck tag if I am shooting a doe I'm looking extra hard for antlers because I don't shoot small bucks but add in the no buck tag and I'm triple checking. So AR's would also add that third and fourth check to make sure it was in fact a doe. That being said I'm still not in favor of AR's, if safety is one of the concerns the best remedy would be to split the seasons and have an antlerless and an antlered season.
  9. I have only bought new of gun Broker but have sold a bunch. I allow a 3day guarantee as long as it's in the same condition it was sold in. Never had any problems. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. Have patience you'll find a nice one for under 400$ Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. Get it cheap enough and it sounds like a perfect 36 Whelen! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. 430$ is fair if it's in good shape, 270 is a dandy cartridge. 130gn .277 bullet at 3050fps will kill about anything on our continent. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. I'm assuming you're talking about Facebook but I don't do that either. With that butt Eva has there ain't many places I wouldn't follow her! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. Good luck in PA, they are mighty fond of their Amish autos but I have found that to keep the prices up. I was in the cabelas in Hamburg a couple weeks ago and couldn't believe the prices they had on their pumps. Just remember side to side rattle on the slide will go away with rounds in the clip and back and forth rattle isn't a good sign. Stay away from the matte finish and you'll be in good shape. Just be careful they're addicting before you know it you'll have one for every day of the week. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. Don't know what an Instagram is but if Eva Shockey is going I will follow her! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. If you're still hunting or tracking avoid any synthetic materials they are all noisy except fleece but when fleece is wet it makes you cold unlike wool. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. Social media will be the end of p&y anyways. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. http://www.bigwoodsbucks.com/Gallery/Articles/articleType/ArticleView/articleId/174/How-to-Pick-the-Perfect-Tracking-Rifle Pretty good article. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. I would highly recommend you stay away from Columbia or Cabelas "wool" its awful! It's all recycled and mixed with other materials. Good wool is expensive but worth every penny. Look into silent predator, that's what I have and couldn't be happier. With wool you want virgin and pure. Blr's are ok just a little heavy and long for me. Really you need to have 2 guns with you, one scoped and one without. When it's raining/snowing it is impossible to keep a scope clear and be ready for a quick shot. Cartridge and bullet selection is very important when your still hunting/tracking because the buck you want most likely won't be standing broadside giving you the perfect shot. I want a bullet that will go end for end of the biggest deer and give me 2 holes. I'm a bit of a 35cal Nutt but with proper bullets most deer cartridges are capable of this. 20. Getting back into it has been a long 3 year journey. I have gotten frustrated a few times and put it away for months at a time but this winter I committed to it and finally am shooting it the way I want to. I will probably cry when I finally kill a critter with it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. Exactly why I said they have no clue what the percentages are. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. They have no idea how many are filled. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. As we all know no laws are black and white. How many of us have driven by a cop doing 70 in a 65 and not gotten a ticket? Now I don't know for sure but I would have to imagine that there aren't many game wardens that would write you a ticket for killing either of those bucks. The object of AR's is to increase the age of bucks killed both of these bucks obviously have the age. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  24. I would likely shoot both of those bucks. That being said as adults we all make conscious decisions every day on what laws we follow and break. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  25. It's been a long road getting back into traditional archery. I can't wait to shoot a turkey with the longbow this year. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
