  1. There are a few that carry semi's in the big woods. Most popular would be the Remington 742/740/7400/750. The best big woods hunter I personally know carry's a heavily customized browning bar short trac. It started as a 308 is now a 358 with a 16" barrel and a lightened stock. It has a 1-4 leupold on it. There are still a bunch of Ruger 44 carbines in the woods every year as well. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. In my opinion in the Adirondacks there isn't much reason to go that far back in. You get in 3 or 4 miles and you are more than by yourself and that's a pretty easy hike to do before daylight, something I do nearly everyday of deer season. Their are many areas in the Adirondacks that get very little hunting pressure. I have spent the night in the woods many times but it was usually because I was on a track that I didn't want to try to find the next day. I don't have any special tired but I don't ever leave home with out tire chains during season. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. I haven't owned a 535 in a bunch of years but if I remember correctly the mag spring can't come out the barrel end. The end of the mag tube is solid and threaded for the barrel screw. If you can take a pic of the end on mag tube. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. You'll be fine, my only question is why? Especially during turkey season. I'm assuming that's the dicks package so your turkey barrel is 21"? You're only making the gun 5or6" shorter by taking the barrel off. Doesn't seem worth it to have to fumble with in the dark using a flashlight. I suggest getting a soft case that's as close to the length of the gun as possible. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. I think 535's are like the 500's and its a screw that holds the barrel on not a cap like others. If it is the screw it stays on the barrel. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. Are you putting a scope or optic on it? If so its not a good idea. A shotguns barrel just sides into the action and never fits the exact same every time. If you're just using the bead or sights on the rib you're good to go. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. I have a spot similar to what you described. What I did was build a blind on an old trailer that I got for free. I park it 30yds out in the field and leave it there all year and move it when cutting the hay. Deer got accustomed to it very quickly and often lay under it in the summer. I have killed a few deer from it but it is often just my rainy day spot because it's dry. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  9. I have 3 hangons that I bought at a garage sale a long time ago. They are aluminum and lighter than anything in the market today. I made felt seats and have done some other customizations. These stands and 5 screw ins and I'm 15-20ft in the air anywhere I want to be. For someone who hates sitting these are the best option. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. I don't know why but I have the same problem. I am 5 miles from the line and have a ridiculously long gun season and it's all agriculture. I would love to see the state change NZ to only the Adirondack park! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. Depends on who you ask. I don't think the new ones are the same quality as the older ones "around 2003 and prior." Stay away from their dull finish it tends to rust with rain in the forecast. I don't like the Monte Carlo stocks on the new ones either, that's a personal thing because I like small scopes mounted very low. If you get a newer one that has the plastic on the bottom of the mags throw them in the garbage and get on eBay and buy the older all metal ones. Here's a picture of mine that I use the most. I have done a bunch of work to it and it's about as perfect as it could get. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. Thanks for sharing, Excellent song! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. I have a bunch of them and have been tinkering on them since I was a kid, If you have any questions let me know. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. I use cheap harbor freight tool bags in 3 different sizes. Never been much of a bench rest guy so for only sighting these are more than adequate, I think I payed 6$ for the 3 pack. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. You literally said how old is this BUCK! I think that's saying one way or the other. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. I have closets full of deer rifles and I have yet to find a better gun for still hunting/tracking than a Remington pump. They shoot better than anything else freehand and you have a fast follow up. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. Unless that's a pure bred Irish I'm thinking that's a doe. Grow if you can't tell the difference between a buck or a doe I don't think you should be worried about aging. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. No, I got mine from muzzleloader.com and brown Santa dropped it on the steps. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. This is my favorite topic in a long time. It's awesome that so many different tactics can be successful! Some go slow some go fast, some think camo is important some don't, some play the wind some don't. The most important thing is you have to make to points come together that's you and a buck you want to kill. How you get there isn't important it's what you do after that matters most! 20. First off there is no need for a ffl for a muzzleloader. That's the muzzleloader I have and I like it. That being said its not 200$ better than a cva wolf. I don't have that scope because I hate the reticle because it's too busy. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. And this is exactly my point! I refuse to support something that uses made up numbers to back it up! I will not support change until I know what we have is broken. Especially when the state has absolutely no clue of the age of harvested bucks. This is and will be my stance and I'm sure an AR would benefit me personally as I have only shot mature bucks for most of my hunting career. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. The problem is, I think the DEC sucks! Do I agree with how the bill has gotten where it is absolutely not but I don't know if I agree with what's on the bill or not because NY sucks at harvest data. Hell I don't like how trump got to be president but I'm sure as hell not bitching about it because the other option was even worse! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. One of the great things about 35rems are that you can plink with cheap pistol bullets. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  24. I just got the email on Vermont's harvest data, I know NY has a lot more hunters but it would be nice to have that kind of data for an educated decision on this and other topics! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
