  1. I think your example is an exception and not the norm. I don't know the numbers but I would be willing to bet that 95+% of bucks are killed inside of 100yds. I don't think the number of bucks saved would be huge. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. I agree with you other than the shotgun/muzzleloader part. 20yrs ago I would have said they make a difference now that they can be honest 200yd guns they wouldn't save enough deer to matter. I have said for a long time that NY needs 2 zones, the Adirondacks and the rest of the state and go to 1 buck state wide. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. I bet you can show me the pics but they are the exception not the norm. In most of the state a mature 4 1/2yr old buck doesn't gross 130" All that changed without an AR? Sounds like you found your answer. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. As I have said many times before I don't shoot small bucks. I have before and most likely won't ever again. I cherish the memories of the spike 3 and 4 that I killed before I started not shooting small bucks just as much as my biggest bucks. How in the hell can I support something that takes the ability to do something that I enjoyed so much away from someone else for my personal gains? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. No guns during the rut, 1 buck rule and much better soil. Thinking NY will one day have a 160" buck behind every tree is a "pipe dream!" There is a plethora of reasons why but most importantly it's hunter densities in the area where there is the potential to grow big ones in NY. Look at the Adirondacks how many acres is there? With the lowest hunter densities in the state yet how many record bucks come out of there? This buck was aged at 5 1/2 and won't score 120" This buck was aged at 6 1/2+ and won't score 100" Aged at4 1/2 what maybe 120" Aged at 51/2 again not even 120" So there's 4 bucks that all reached maturity. Only 2 of these bucks came from the same county with about 250 miles between 2 of them so it's not a regional issue. I have hunted a bunch of other states and have killed a couple nice bucks in my life but I end up back home every year. I have come to realize we don't have the potential to have big bucks in Eastern NY with any type of regularity. And I'm completely fine with that I love the challenge of shooting a mature deer in the land where there aren't any. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. Unless I'm mistaking not one of those states have AR's? How do they have mature bucks? If the state thinks we need AR's lets start it on state land for 5 years and see what happens. Many states have certain lands that have different regulations, there's no reason NY couldn't do it as well. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. That's only funny because, IT HAPPENS! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. It was the old man and then the brother but now I guess brother is on top of the list. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. I'm an hr north of Albany but I would love to help out the youngster. If it's not too far shoot me a PM. I'm sorry but I won't take any money for it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. What's a dmp? We haven't gotten them in years, not even my landowners. My point is it's ok for the gov. To tell you it's got to have 3" spike but not 3pts? That doesn't make sense at all. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. I'm not for AR's but your argument isn't a valid one, the state already tells you what "isn't a trophy" a antlered deer has to have a 3" spike. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. Probably not necessary for you to turn it down, I did because I draw 80lbs. I should have said "tuned for" not sighted in for. Turning a bow down usually won't affect "tune." Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. I'm headed to Harrisburg this weekend I'll check Cabelas for you Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. Luckily I won't have to worry about this as I'm doing it as something fun and if it's crappy out I'll carry a rifle or an inline. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. Have you ever proofread a post? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. Trains are diesel over electric not practical or needed in a car. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. I am on the same adventure just with a little head start. Moog gave the best advice, GET A LIGHT DRAW! I shoot longbows and being 6'2 230lb and shooting an 80lb compound I figured 60lbs would be no big deal, yea I wasn't nearly as smart as the pro's! I now shoot a 40lb bow for hunting and 90%of my practice is with a 30lb bow. I shoot a Samick 1pc longbow I have 2 of the same bows 1 30lb and 1 40lb. I will eventually get a custom most likely Omega but I shoot my cheapo so well I'm in no hurry. Moog is much more knowledgable than me but if I can help at all let me know. I bought 5 bows in my first year and have learned a bit about what I needed/wanted along the way. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. I found 3 boxes in Maine at kittery trading post 2 weeks ago. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. I think where an electric vehicle will shine is where they aren't marketed at all. On job sites where vehicles are used to haul things around jobs or on farms where farm trucks aren't ever driven farther than a few miles. They would need large payload and tow capacities but range isn't really important. Gas or diesel vehicles have a lot of trouble in the jobs because of being started and turned off so often and never getting up to optimum running temps. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. It takes 10minutes to fill up with gas and hours to charge a battery, just not practical on a trip. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. Shoot whatever it's sighted in with now. I have used a bunch of different heads and haven't saw where one is way better than the other. Currently I use slick tricks. When shooting a bird with a bow for what ever reason I have had the least tracking if I can shoot them in the back, broad side is effective as well just make sure you aim in the upper front. My first bow turkey was a slammer tom with an absolute rope of a beard that I hit right at the base of and cut 95% of off. That's the last time I will shoot one facing directly at me. 22. It depends if you use a blind it's not a big disadvantage at all. Doing it without a blind is a whole different game! I can't remember how many spring toms I have killed with a bow maybe 7 or 8 but I can tell you my success rate is pitiful! I am very fortunate to have great ground to hunt them and a lot of it so I can mess up a few ambushes a day and still have a chance. My best advice is turn your bow way down. Two reasons #1 shish kabobed turkeys don't fly well. #2 you may have to hold your draw a long time. If your not using a blind set up in a blowdown or behind a big tree to cover your draw then pop around it ready to shoot. I highly recommend it! It's a blast and a real challenge. I had given up turkey hunting for a couple years out of boredom until using a bow sparked my interest again. This year I will be attempting it with the longbow. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. Yea, anything that will break up the top inch or so of soil will work Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  24. I'm not sure what you're asking? You have to have loose ground for the oats so you have to break it yearly Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  25. I have an Suzuki 9.9 efi kicker now and it's OK. Doesn't like to idle when it's cold "below 20deg." It's sad because I bought it because it being fuel injected I was told that it would shine during winter fishing but it doesn't. Next year I will likely have a 15hp evinrude ETec as a kicker. Almost 100lbs heavier but they run great in the cold. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
