  1. Just what the doctor ordered put a vx3 1.5-5 on it and cut that extra barrel down to 18" load her with 225 Barnes ttsx's and you'll have about the best deer/bear gun man ever made. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. I hate peeps and like just a kisser button. I have tried a few different models of these and none worked as I hoped. I'm not very smart and like having as little to think about as possible or I'll screw it up. Knuckle in jawbone kisser in corner of lip pin on and fire. Sounds like you're happy with it and that's all that matters. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. This is absolutely true but I'm pretty proud of the hole in the absolute perfect spot in my bear rug. When people see it they usually say wow you killed a bear followed by Jesus what did you shoot that with? Most don't believe me when I tell them a little old 30-30. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. Your 308 will kill them very dead, find a bullet that will hold together for weight retention but still expand "I recommend Barnes." If you want to buy a gun your options are endless. If a bigger hole is what you're after a 35whelen would be tough to beat, or a 45-70. Without getting into magnums "because I don't think they are needed." I'm far from an expert and have only killed 2 bears 1 with a 308 shot him 3 times although didn't need to he went 40yds all shots were in lungs and liver from 30-50yds with 150gn Winchester ballistic silver tips. 2nd was with a 30-30 quartering to shot at 40yds hit heart and lung bear went 20yds and died. 5. I don't think the ammo thing is an issue in upstate never had a problem. I have my permit but have never been asked except at Walmart and won't buy ammo from them anymore anyways. I don't think there are any 243 bullets designed for elk, if I was going to shoot a 243 at a deer it would be with a premium Barnes bullet for the weight retention. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. Braveheart super troopers young guns That's my top 3 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. Not an electrician but I have been zapped a bunch of times pretending to be one. My suggestion is leave them off and call an electrician. If it's water or not there is obviously an issue and electric issues in your house is not something to play with. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. In a carbine especially if your kids are in consideration I would put 357 at the top. The can shoot 38special for practice and and around 22$ a box of 50 there isn't anything cheaper for a center fire rifle. Just stay away from the lighter weights for hunting and kill critters. I don't know what your friends are doing wrong but I would be willing to bet it has more to do with the contenders than the 35rems. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. Nothing is 100% but anyone with a brain can age a deer 0-3 1/2yrs old. After that it gets tough because gains become much less year to year. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. 45 colt is almost a reloader only caliber if deer hunting is your plan with it. There are a few company's that load hot enough loads for deer but most are very weak and wouldn't be sufficient in my opinion. I love 45colts and have 2 carbines chambered in them, reloading for them is a blast because I can load them very soft to pretty extreme. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. Welcome, I don't hunt ducks anymore because I don't enjoy being cold and wet. I now get my bird shooting fix by shooting crows. Don't need to get wet way cheaper and they taste about the same. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. I own land in Saratoga, and Washington county, own a camp in Hamilton and am a member in a camp in schoharie county. From what I have seen in my 60 days a year in the woods hunting deer is much different than yours. I would say three out of four 5,6pts I have seen have been 2yrs old. I also hunt Pa and Ohio and their numbers closer to your numbers from what I have saw. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. Incorrect I own 100acres in an area that has DMP's and get denied almost every year. There is no guarantee. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. Where did you get your information on the 85-95%? Or is it a guess from personal experience. If it is a made up number from personal experience how many different areas in the state have you hunted? I talked to a group of Encon officers at the fair last year and asked them how they gather info and they told me that the state classifies them as such 1-4pts=1, 5-6pts=2, 7+=older. I don't know if they pulled this out of their asses, like I'm sure you did your 85-95% but that's what I was told. The problem with NY is it's a huge state, at my house a 6pt is usually a 2yrs old 150lb deer. In the Adirondacks I have seen more 2yr old 4-6 pts than I have yr olds. Once again the state doesn't have a frigging clue how old a deer that is killed here is. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. With the current bill I'm not affected, if it covered where my camp is in the Adirondacks I would sell it and hunt more out of state. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. They don't! They take an absolute guess with very little data to back it. Until this problem is fixed I refuse to back any changes by the dec/state because they have so little facts to warrant the changes. Not only that but if they do go forward with AR's in 5 or 10 years how will we know if it helped? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. But there are no electronics to fail so if it last 20yrs and the average 100$ optics last 5yrs it's well worth it. They are about 400$ street price Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. Yes the 2 was on my 10mm and the 3 on a 9mm. The Glocks eat up optics because of the slamming they take from the slides. That being said I have had the RMR for 3 years now and it's still working perfect! https://www.trijicon.com/na_en/products/product2.php?id=RMR&mid=Dual-Illuminated Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. I owned 2 fast fires a 2 and a 3 and both broke in short order, these weren't on a shotgun they were on my glock. I don't know how they would hold up on a shotgun but the round count is way lower so they may last better. Having owned a bunch of different ones I highly suggest staying away from anything with a battery, they will fail eventually. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. I don't totally agree with the taste part, just because that has everything to do with habitat. Every deer that I have shot in the Adirondacks over 3yrs old taste like crap. They are alright in a sausage but to just eat a steak or a plain burger they are awful. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. The thing to watch on GB is the added fees. If you buy and have to pay tax, shipping and an ffl fee you might not be saving as much as you thought. If you buy from somewhere where you don't pay tax shipping is reasonable and you don't have to pay much for the transfer than you can save money. The ffl fees can be crazy, someone said that a shot near us was 25$ I haven't payed more than 10$. Just watch the fees because they'll add up quick. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. Technically speaking my RMR's are a reflex sight and not a holographic. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. And that's 50% that can't legally be killed. To 1/2 of the yr old bucks getting a pass is a big number. To those that keep showing pictures and bringing up the "many" yr olds that have 3,4,5pts on a side even if 50% of them did have a "legal" amount of points that means 50% get a pass. That being said I don't like AR's and won't support them I just thing using the exception to a rule as your argument is ridiculous. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  24. Halo sights are the best turkey sight I have used. They don't obstruct view, you shoot them with both eyes open. They weigh nothing. And they allow very precise aiming and the ability to center your pattern. I have used scopes illuminated red dots with and without magnification and until a new type of optic comes out the only thing on my turkey guns will be a halo sight. I have a trijicon RMR dual illum on mine because it doesn't take batteries. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
