This year’s corn plot
Buckmaster7600 replied to wolc123's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
Although fuel is more than gasoline if you figured out your gallons per hour I would be surprised if the diesel didn’t come out on top. I have 2 tractors if the same vintage and close to same hp and the diesel goes almost twice the hours that than the gas does doing the same work. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

If you consider someone shooting a deer with a crossbow during archery season poaching would you consider someone that shoots a Turkey with a lead load poaching once the ban goes through? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Never owned nor have I seen an assault rifle? I do buy a couple thousand 5.56 and 9mm at least every other month. Always by the case “1,000.” I enjoy shooting, is that a red flag to you? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

I understand what you’re saying and agree. My point is putting steps in place to make it more difficult for the bad guy to get in is a much better first step than a good guy with a gun. I’ve never been comfortable at places like you describe and avoid them when possible. It’s something I’m always thinking about! You hit the nail on the head until we start dealing with evil the way they should be dealt with at the first signs these situations will continue! Evil doesn’t ever go away in a person, they can hide it but it’s always there until they’re put in the ground! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

When was the last time there was a shooting in an airport or stadium? Both places metal detectors have been used. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Me too as long as it didn’t include the Adirondacks. I think my idea would be a good compromise. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

I live on the south east edge of northern zone we have a gun season this year from the 12th of Oct-December 11th. With the current season dates it’s basically impossible for a buck not to make a mistake especially when gun season includes every second of the rut. 4 miles to my south in the southern zone the gun seasons starts 38 days later. Exact same habitat, property sizes etc yet completely different herd structure. My fix would be to do away with the northern and southern zone and have the Adirondack park have the current northern zone dates and the rest of the state go by the southern zones dates. Yes, yes I do think it would stop them! A metal detector before a locked door is very effective in keeping guns out of a school if the person”s” running them do their. I have zero issues with the government spending money to make schools safer, my issue is wasting money. Paying 1 armed guy to watch cameras is an asinine idea from a security standpoint. I want schools to spend money on keeping the assholes out of the schools! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

I was unaware that there was a rule stating schools need to have glass doors? Changing exterior doors to steel and adding a few metal detectors is way more effective and cheaper than paying a a dude to sit in a room with a gun… I don’t have a glass door in my house for a reason, why is it necessary for schools to? Im never a supporter of wasting money on feel good measures! A metal detector and a locked door would be far more effective and cost a portion! I’m surprised you have such a different outlook on how the government works than what my experience has been. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Seems like a great idea on paper, I’m going to guess you’ve never worked for the government. It would start like that and in a week of them not doing anything they’d be given other tasks. Not to mention in security 1 is none and 2 is 1, no security is ever done with one person. Always in pairs. Anything other than that us done as a feel good/look good measure and not security. I never said they were slaughtering them, I never once mentioned illegal activity by them. I just brought it up as part of the explanation as to why we don’t have shooters around. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

This sounds great but it will never happen! I’m a Leo and a veteran and I wouldn’t take that job for 5x’s that salary and don’t know a co worker or veteran that would. Having a high school daughter and seeing how her classmates act is something I would never deal with. Especially not in an era where you get videoed doing your job and get plastered on the news and have your life/career ruined. A good buddy is a county sheriff he took the position at a high school to get off midnights. Didn’t last 3 months, now the position is forced OT with no specific bid officer. Exactly, just as we have done with vermin. We know our lands better than anyone especially some asshat in Albany. I’ll do what’s right and needed for my property and deal with the consequences if I have to. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

It wasn’t a complaint, it was an explanation as to why there aren’t shooter bucks “for me” around. They can shoot what they want with what they want when they on the proper they have permission to hunt, that’s between them and the landowner. I knew when I started buying around here what I was getting into. I’ve lived here all my life minus my time in the military. It’s home and it is what it is. That’s why again poaching won’t affect my hunting in any way. To me it’s worth the time and cost to watch deer and have the opportunity to kill a buck almost every sit. Last year my daughter hunted for less than 30 minutes between 2 hunts and killed 2 deer. I don’t have a habitat issue. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

It’s been done and is still being done. It’s impossible to keep a buck on 40-100 acre plots. They shot 9 bucks on my neighbors 18 acres. It’s nearly impossible for a buck to reach maturity when he’s being hunted with a gun for 9 full weeks that includes every minute of the rut in farm country. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

I have zero desire, I’ve been out west. Only hunt I’ll ever pay to go on will be a moose hunt. That was supposed to be this year but I’m not getting vaccinated so I’ll keep applying for the draws in the states. Hunting my properties has zero to do with killing a buck. I would rather shoot a 80” buck in the Adirondacks than a 160” on my property. I enjoy seeing deer, other game and working on improving their habitat. I enjoy killing bucks in the Adirondacks. -

Can you read? I specifically said “unless a black market for whitetail meat” That covers your entire last paragraph! I pay 6,000$ a year in taxes on property just for hunting purposes and I have killed 1 buck in 10 years on it. Why because New York State has our deer seasons so f*cked up! I have had 2 bucks I would kill on camera in those same 10 years. That’s running 20+ cameras 365 days a year and having 90+ days off during deer season. “Poaching” isn’t going to effect my hunting in any way! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
