Live From The Woods 2022 Turkey Edition
Buckmaster7600 replied to fasteddie's topic in Turkey Hunting
I’ll be out in the am. Sitting against the same tree I’ve sat at for many of mornings. I hate opening days and weekends because many of my spots are private with a lot of pressure so I don’t bother with them until weekdays. But I’m looking forward to playing the game in the morning, hopefully there’s a willing participant in the crowd! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

I shoot my bows 4-5 days a week year round. I’m perfectly happy with a 5 in a pie plate at 40yds, but I don’t use a peep and shoot with a .2 pin and With my long bows I’m happy with 5 in a pie plate at 20yds. A compound is easy enough to kill consistently with to take the time and effort argument off the table. Im anti full inclusion but the time and effort argument is absolutely BS! I don’t think that the conversation is off track at all. I would guess Everyone knows someone who owns their own property that is hunting with an Xbow on oct1. No different than I’m sure everyone knows someone who has an AR that doesn’t fit within the safe act. I’m against full inclusion but not enough to fight it. If the state see’s it as archery equipment for some of archery season than what does it matter? It’s archery equipment in the states eyes. It can’t be archery equipment for part and not all… If I wanted to crossbow hunt or if I needed to do to for a medical reason you can bet your butt I would be out there with an Xbow on Oct 1. I won’t speak for him but for me I don’t feel it’s my right but I do feel it’s a conscious decision as an adult with a full understanding of the consequences. If I shoot a beaver that is causing damage to my property after making multiple attempts to get someone to trap them an Encon officer is going to look at that differently than someone shooting a deer out of season or at night. That is what I mean by guidelines. It’s no different t than setting your cruise control at 67mph on the highway or rolling through a stoplight, they’re both breaking a law… Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
You can’t go wrong with either! I would add Suzuki to that same list.if you’re trailering it and not taking it in and off due to the weight I can’t recommend the Suzuki 9.9 efi engine. I have that engine on my boat for a kicker and it has a couple thousand hours on it with zero issues! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Absolutely, your shell choice and pattern will decide what your max range is. My guess with 4’s is that you’ll be very thin at 30yds. As stated 4’s are pretty big in a 20ga hull so you won’t have a lot of them in there. I also agree 6’s or 7.5 would by my suggestion but even with those you won’t have much over a 30yd gun if it’s even a 30yd gun. Don’t let that discourage you, I’ve killed more than my share of turkeys and refuse to shoot one over 30yds and set my guns up specifically for those closer ranges. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

No, missing them’s more fun! It’s like catch and release fishing! Best part is you don’t even have to eat them! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Add me, and it’s absolutely BS that the easiest tool gets the best two weeks! Those two weeks should only be for those willing to put in the time and effort to get proficient with actual archery equipment! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Game Laws are guidelines and are often not cut and dry. No different than speed limits. I would consider myself a law abiding citizen but have and will go outside of the law to do what’s best for my property. To me someone shooting a coyote out of season, trapping a coon out of season or shooting a beaver is much different than shooting 6 bucks. Is it? I don’t know but I sleep fine at night and have no problem looking at myself while brushing my teeth. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

I think trump running is the worst thing that could happen. Not because he won’t do a fabulous job like he did the first time, but because there’s too many brain washed idiots “including those on here” that don’t give a shit about our country and hate trump. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

A much better example yes. I think abortions should be mandatory for some and all drugs should be legal. But I also think it’s BS that the easiest tool gets the best two weeks as it is currently setup. But in reality I can’t get an abortion, I don’t do drugs and I probably will never hunt with an Xbow again until I need to so none of it really matters to me. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

If tax payers weren’t paying for abortions or safe drug facilities I would see your point. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
I did it once a month when I was stationed down at camp Lejeune. Getting through dc is the big worry but sometimes Richmond will get you! Save time to stop at Green top 10150 Lakeridge Pkwy, Ashland, VA 23005. Haven’t been in a couple years but was always my favorite outdoor store. Very similar to kittery trading post. I’m all for crossbows in the woods and compounds in the woods. I just wish they would make October for crossbows and compounds and from Nov 1 until gun season for traditional archery. The way it is now is backwards. Why should the easiest tool get the best two weeks? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
Swing and a miss. 6 jakes came in and whooped on the two toms. She decided to shoot at a Jake on his way by at about 10yds. No feathers found so hopefully he’ll make it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

We are in and setup. Same setup as yesterday morning but I’ve taken my patience medicine this morning, let’s see if it will work. Got birds gobbling all around us already. Good luck everyone, shoot straight and have fun!!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I disagree, trump is who he is. I don’t like him but I wouldn’t want him to change. The 2020 election was very simple an egotistical ass hole who would do what he could to help the country or a puppet that would do what he was told to destroy it. If enough Americans chose the latter than we are screwed, if it was stolen than we are screwed because if they did it once we’ll never have a fair election again. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
Fun day in the woods! Couldn’t get it done but she had fun and is excited about tomorrow! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Headed to the 3rd property of the morning. She got busted by a Jake trying to get swung on a gobbler. We’re having an awesome morning and birds are gobbling. We are going to look at a spot where I’ll be able to see turkeys from the road if they’re there if not we are heading back to where we starting and will stay until noon. On to spot number two, she did everything right. Me on the other hand, I suck and my complete lack of patience saved a long beards life. We setup on the birds I found yesterday morning. It was a toss up between there or the other side of the road where I knew birds would be but haven’t heard them. Of course at sunrise a bird in the spot I didn’t pick gobbled hundred of times and we never heard a bird where we were. I told her we were sitting until 7 then we’ll make a move. At 630 I told her this would bite us in the butt but I’d had enough with that bird still gobbling. I got up to get decoys to walked back to her to put them in the bag and she says “dad turkey.” Of course 60yds on the log road we were set up on is a long beard, coming right to the call. I played with him for a bit with the fan decoy but the gig was up. As we were walking back to the truck she says “at least you warned me that you were going to screw ur up dad.” Oh well we had a good laugh and are headed to the other bird.
