  1. That buck didn't happen to have a NAP broadhead in the left shoulder did it ?
  2. I thought I would see more movement too although it was windy Sun. I also thought I would see more young bucks walking around,or any for that matter.I'm sure I would see more down below.
  3. Congratulations to you guys ! It was nice meeting and talking to you and your friends. I am hoping to get back during the regular and late season at some point.
  4. Well fasteddie, guess what I did Sat. morning. Had 6 doe walk in to me, I was in my treestand.I shot under one of the adults at about 20 yds.As soon as I pulled the release I knew something didn't feel right..I was very cold and rushed the shot because I was thinking too much that if the doe walked forward I would lose the shot due to trees and also that 3 of the deer were right in front of me and I was worried they would see me.A clean miss but I am kicking myself none the less.I think I need to join a 3D league or something!
  5. We didn't do so well. I saw 6 doe and missed one(stupid). My buddy saw 5 doe but couldn't get a shot.Sun was awful with the wind.I did see one beautiful buck when I was walking to my stand.Enjoyed being there though.
  6. Looking at tall pines swaying in the wind out my window now. I will be out all weekend in this. Can't change the weather but a calm frosty day would be nice.
  7. So nice to open this thread and see your very talented photos Wooly. I was annoyed by a few things and this made me forget them, thanks. Oh and the black and white photo is very artistic and regal.
  8. One more day but my one buddy wont be with us, he went to his doctor today and he is getting his appendix out tonight ! Of all the crappy luck.I hope he will recover quickly. How has the hunting been this week ?
  9. Fasteddie, was the pin you were using set for 20 yds. ? I have to aim low (heart) if a deer is less than 20 yds. and I am in a stand 15 - 20 feet high , using my 20 yd. pin. I usually hit higher. I know this doesn't make sense to some but that is how I shoot.Missed a doe this year too by putting the 30 yd pin on it instead of the 20.Sometimes having to make a shot after sitting in a stand for a while is more difficult than target practicing. Don't let it get you down.As a friend of mine used to say "you can't miss them all ".
  10. There used to be a check station in Rush just off 390,then it moved to the DEC office in Avon on RTS. 5 & 20. I don't recall stopping being mandatory. I voluntarily stopped several times but I was never treated badly. All of my experiences with DEC officers except one over 20 yrs. ago were cordial and friendly. One officer even offered me advice on finding turkeys. This was all in Region 8 so maybe we are fortunate here.
  11. 2 more days. I hope my one buddy is well by then, he had some kind of virus this week said he was the sickest he can ever remember being. I hope I don't see any monster bucks, just monster doe. Did I really just type that ?
  12. Better luck next time, I wish I was hunting today !
  13. I didn't know about Charlie's. I have been doing my own to save $$ but sometimes I get a little tired. ZZZZZZZZZZ ....... I am glad I found out about them in case I need a processor.
  14. 2 co-workers hunt from camps in 9p near English Hill. They both complain of lack of deer sightings.Don't forget there are more coyotes and bear around there now too.How many deer are killed by other animals I wouldn't know but it possibly could be another contributing factor.
  15. I plan on bowhunting during the regular season but that is because the the town property is bow only.Kind of cool being out then because it is just like the bow season in that it is pretty quite in the area.
  16. Good luck.I hope you see more than I did here today.I had a doe snort at me as I was trying to set my climber up.So I snorted back and a few minutes later she was 30 yds. downhill looking at me. I never tried that before. Didn't see anything but squirrels and monks after that.
  17. Next week at the park would be great and you wouldn't have to ship it.
  18. If you do, check with the town parks and rec. dept about the bowhunting. It is only open to town residents.Very good chance of taking a doe on the town property and there are some nice bucks here too. Some people may not like it but you would have to decide for yourself.
  19. Whiting Rd has some beautiful woods and I see a lot of deer in the thickets.Getting a clear shot can be frustrating as the town doesn't want tree trimming.I missed a doe already there this year but I am going back this weekend and looking for redemption.Sometimes It gets noisy there but it is what it is and it is only 10 minutes from home.
  20. Congratulations ! Isn't it cool when a deer comes back after missing ? That doesn't happen during firearm season.
  21. A cousin of mine didn't get serious about bowhunting until Halloween. That was back in the old days when Oct. 15 was the beginning of S.Z. bowhunting. He has killed many more deer than I have and he is several years younger too.Whack one !
