  1. Anyone else seeing more than usual this year? Even the firewood trees I'm cutting in the woods seem to have a lot more residents than past years. Snow? Cold? Lack of rain?
  2. I miss the food! Swear I could smell the pierogies and the Sparr's kielbasa in that video! Thanks for posting Tony.
  3. That was exactly my point with the post Doc: no matter how anyone feels about the specific subject matter, people should be very concerned about the way the government is dealing with these issues, and the real reasons why their choosing to deal with them at all. And to directly answer your question: cigarettes are legal because the state and federal governments have figured out a way to profit from that legality and no one has been able to stand up and say "The Emperor has no clothes". And to a lesser extent the legality provides them with a sense of control. As long as they can feel like their running the show, and that they can make money with it, they don't really care what people do to themselves or to each other. It's not a benevolent system.
  4. It's not hate talk. It's refusal to buy into the propaganda. It's an emotional video, and therefore a powerful tool. But the fact remains, a deranged individual caused those deaths.
  5. The premise of their argument is that because there are guns there is gun violence. It's an incredibly simplistic view of the cause/effect relationship. They could easily position their argument to say the same thing about automobiles: if there were no cars there would be no car accidents/deaths. Etc. etc, etc. Addressing the growing problem of mental instability among individuals in this country is hugely difficult, and no one wants to deal with it. No one. It's simply easier to attack the inanimate objects/tools than it is to admit that we've all helped to create the society that's produced the monsters who would use those tools for evil. It's easy to be anti- gun, and most people go with' easy'. TV commercials even say the best thing to do is 'easy'. It's damned hard to take an honest look at the real world, so most people just look at the TV and go with that.
  6. Brainless, wealthy, and just enough talent to get away with it. A perfect shill.
  7. .....a free-market industry simply cannot be allowed to exist in a Fascist state.
  8. I honestly don't care which political party she's associated with, she's proven herself time and again to be the wrong person for the job. The nuts-and-bolts of how she thinks is way more important than what she thinks. She doesn't want to be president because she thinks she might be good at it. She wants to be president because she thinks it will be good for her. That kind of thinking is certainly rampant on both sides of the aisle as it's currently set up, but Mrs. Clinton is a special case simply because of the dynastic legacy and aura that she feels surrounds her.
  9. Actually Mr VJP it's Fascism. A form of Socialism, but without government ownership. Control without responsibility, IOW, and it's basically candy for the current "progressive liberals" who don't know anything about responsibility or accountability. To your OP: As long as Cuomo can spin it with the media so that he looks good, he'll be happy with those numbers.
  10. ....you should care about the real reason the government is trying to kill this multi-billion dollar free-market industry.
  11. Unless you're like our friend Wooly and seriously hunting for them you won't find very many, and the ones you do find will be in the strangest of places. :-)
  12. It's nice to know where you stand on the issue of the US presidency. Are you inclined to give as well as receive? Is the going rate still a comfortable pension-for-life in exchange for liberty and justice for all?
  13. I don't care much for anything with the term 'collective' in it. And bargaining with people who rule, or who desperately wish to rule, is not actually bargaining, it's begging. At this point in time you're still free to do that if you so desire, but I've chosen to not participate in that scenario.
  14. Can't say I disagree with that at all FSW. On the other hand, giving any kind of free reign to the anti-whatever's is a sure ticket to loss of freedoms at some point. Drawing the line at the 2nd amendment is popular enough that I'll give it all the support I can.
  15. Slick Willy V2.0...... With a brand new and completely re-engineered motivational chip-set that entirely removes the bouts of conscience and morality that occasionally afflicted V1.0, the dreams of "A New World Order" can now become a reality............. Warning: Successful installation of V2.0 will require the participation of a tremendous number of poorly-informed voters which must be purchased separately.
  16. Taken to it's extreme, simply being angry with the general loss of rights in this country could eventually be construed as an 'anger issue' that might lead to a firearms confiscation order. Perhaps add to that a mandatory drug-induced state of complacency just to shut someone up?
  17. From the manufacturer's standpoint the biggest reason is probably cost, and the fact that most rifles sell just fine without iron sights. ETA: Mr VJP beat me to it :-)
  18. Colleges and universities aren't there to teach. They exist to provide an atmosphere for learning. It's entirely up to the student to do the actual learning, and it's entirely up to them what they choose to learn in a given environment.
  19. If everyone would just agree with me, we wouldn't even have to discuss it.
  20. Here's an early Happy Birthday to you Growalot! My brother's is tomorrow as well. It's no fun having body parts wear out. I've gotten to the point where I hire construction laborers just to bend down and pick up my tools for me.
  21. By this time last year I had most of my firewood cut, split and stacked. I haven't even thought about taking the plow off the tractor yet this year because it'll make a muddy mess of everything if I try to cut now.
  22. A collapsible stock is very handy for me because I tend to use the same rifle (Savage model 10 bolt gun) for everything, in a huge variety of situations. Lying in an alfalfa field wearing a t-shirt in August, and wearing 6 layers of clothing in a tree stand in December require different stock configurations. And a pistol grip is becoming more and more necessary as the arthritis and other ailments get worse. That the gun might "look bad-ass" doesn't mean a thing to me. Functionality is the goal.
  23. Apparently legality is not an issue either: http://www.newsmax.com/Newsfront/New-Jersey-Chris-Christie/2015/03/20/id/631592/
