  1. Or this... http://www.newsmax.com/Newsfront/cornell-professor-isis-group/2015/03/27/id/635017/ I don't think they'd backpedal like that if it was all faked. O'Keefe can be a dink sometimes with regard to propaganda, but M Moore and A Gore hold that position pretty firmly for the socialist camp and they get entire movies and awards and lots more money and media support.
  2. If the only concern someone has on this issue is about what the gun 'looks like', the gun-grabber propaganda has been pretty effective. In the original post, technical questions were asked about using an AR for hunting in NYS and they were answered. Then it was asked why someone might choose to use that type of gun for hunting in NYS, and again the questions were answered. Everything since then has turned into an elaboration of the second question and the answers that were provided. The second question should have been a statement: "People shouldn't be using those kinds of guns to hunt in NYS.", because that was clearly the meaning and intent and no amount of tap-dancing through the past 8 pages will change it. That it was phrased as a question meant to incite discord, rather than a statement to posit a view shows some insincerity on the part of the poster.
  3. So after 8 pages of discussion the main sticking point is 'the looks of the gun'? And that it somehow just doesn't 'look' right in the hands of a hunter?
  4. I have no doubt that NYS will legalize marijuana in the near future. A few very simple reasons: 1. They'll be able to tax it from every conceivable angle and make a lot of money, 2. They'll be able to easily promote the concept and sell it to their voting base as a boost to the state's economy, 3. They absolutely love having citizens who don't pay attention, 4. The only people who are likely to stand firmly against the idea are precisely the ones that Cuomo has said "...have no place in NYS..." to begin with, 5. It's the hot new progressivist thing to do, and they're already behind the curve on it.
  5. It used to be about $0 actually. But that was a few years ago and I don't own any guns today.
  6. Until such time as my head explodes, I 'll keep cramming stuff in there and sortin' through it.
  7. You're comparing your view of the firearm with the views of others. An AR platform will shoot rings around any other semi-auto that is offered by major manufacturers in any SAFE-compliant configuration. Accuracy, dependability, adaptability, versatility, ergonomics, you name it. Properly set up, an AR platform is also capable of standing atop those criteria against most off-the-shelf bolt guns. The AR's, AK's, and their derivatives are priced very similar to other semi-auto's. The discussion is about '30 caliber', not 30 rounds. Not arguing, just informing.
  8. Other than the fact that they're clearly unconstitutional, you won't find anything clear about NYS gun laws.
  9. I don't actually own any guns. They were all on Mrs Clinton's private internet server and I have 'forgotten' all about them. Next question?
  10. You may be right on this, and it is a very common practice in the political arena. Divide and conquer, and put the kids in the middle of the argument. I have no knowledge of this particular political person and I didn't sit through her presentation, so I'm giving the benefit of doubt. "The fear of gun ownership" is a phrase I'll remember. Thanks. Very apt, considering the discussion.
  11. The government is also very actively condemning, vilifying, and demonizing the single most important advance in Tobacco Harm Reduction (THR) that's ever come about, namely vaping, (personal vaporizers and electronic cigarettes). This technology is enabling millions of people around the world to either reduce, or completely eliminate, their tobacco use. Why would governments do this? The bottom line is, the US government doesn't currently make any money from vaping. They do, however, make billions of dollars per year (on the order of $60B) from having people use tobacco products. Vaping is seen as a serious threat to a revenue stream for them. This is not tin-foil-hat territory, this is public record, and I'll be happy to send anyone links to the studies if they're interested. Legalization of marijuana would appear, in this context, an attempt to get ahead of a boomerang they tossed for themselves many years ago. I don't use it and I won't defend it, but I will always look closely at the reasoning that surrounds the legislation of it.

    Bamboo poles

Three friends and I held off an attacking grizzly bear on the Yukon River with our cane poles back in the 60's. OK. We were 8 years old and it was a terrified raccoon coming out of a culvert pipe along the barge canal. We eventually threw it a baloney sandwich and it went away, but that day we became men.
  13. Directly inhaling any kind of smoke is inherently dangerous, although some things are definitely more toxic than others when burned. The legalization of marijuana has nothing to do with peoples' health anyway. It's entirely about money. Taxi it and the government makes money; stop having to house people in prisons and spending money to put them there, and the government saves money. I don't partake of the substance myself, so I'll stop here.
  14. Welcome to the forum Slaynbux! And welcome to New Yorkistan. I'm glad you asked about the issue before having your firearm confiscated and becoming another checkmark on the emperor's list. I had to replace a thumbhole stock on my 10/22 benchrest gun because of this silliness.
  15. I mixed up some leftover french fries with a couple of eggs and a piece of venison sausage yesterday morning. There's not much else you can do with leftover french fries. Saturday dinner at my Grandmother's house was always a 'casserole' made from whatever was left over from the week's cooking, and it was always good.

    Bamboo poles

We used to call them 'cane poles'. I lost a lot of them to the carp in the Erie Canal when I was a kid, before we switched to 'beer can' poles.
  17. I can't help you out at all, except to say "Best of luck to you."
  18. I have to disagree with you a bit here MrVJP. The kids she was talking to seemed to have a pretty good grasp of the situation and their parents would likely feel the same way because that's how families work. If it was intended to be negative, the politicritter could probably have chosen a different school to address. She wasn't talking to a kindergarten class, and she got some honest responses from people who will soon be eligible to vote.
  19. "...then you go and find someone that has a key, right now, because I'm here to buy ammunition and your personal views don't mean anything to me."
  20. I get mostly chainsaw and tractor parts.
