  1. Government owned/operated. Carrier pigeons maybe? I have drums. And firewood for for smoke signals too.
  2. Unelected bureaucrats decided yesterday (2/26/2015) to place control of the internet in the hands of the federal government. The vote went as planned: 3 democrat appointees voted 'for', and the 2 republican appointees (who were mandated by congress to be there) voted 'against'. The fact that this decision will not likely survive scrutiny by the judicial system and become law is not the issue here, although the changing make-up of the judicial system will become increasingly important in the future. At issue is the right to speak freely. The most commonly used method of written communication today involves the internet, and it doesn't take a great leap of imagination to see why a governing regime, any governing regime, would like to have control over that pipeline. The most benign of intentions may appear on the surface, but quite honestly I think there's a big shark under that dorsal fin. Comments please.
  3. Grow, I find myself using the word 'silly' more and more, as it seems fewer and fewer people understand the word 'inane'. Example: "Phade's misogynistic inanity in the above posts is silly."
  4. Government agency to research scientist: "Do you think you can prove XYZ to be true?" Research scientist: "With the proper funding, I certainly can." Tomorrow's headline in the mainstream media: "XYZ IS FACT"
  5. I'll never apologize to anyone for disrupting their comfort with my opinions on very real concerns. I'll fight to the death for your right to ignore me. I wish you good hunting this season, and always. Mark
  6. When did unelected bureaucrats become lawmakers in this country? The refusal of the bureaucrats to even disclose their proposed regulations to the actual lawmakers should be a pretty good clue that they don't have completely benign intentions in this matter. The whole idea of Public input and discussion was dismissed after the first failed attempt. Now it's entirely behind closed 'curtains' so that there's no dissenting opinion. Certain parts of the proposal do have merit in their overall intent. If that's the extent of your concern, shout it from the rooftop. But even a casual look at what we're being allowed to see in the light of day concerning the actual content, and what is being heard from 2 of the 5 FCC commissioners, lead many of us to believe the basic intentions are far from noble.
  7. My wood is free and I don't have to travel to get it. Fuel and maintenance for the saws and splitter comes to less than $50 per year to heat my house, and I actually enjoy the labor part of it. At least for now.
  8. How about 'well broken in'?
  9. The Constitution put in place a federal government to better enable the union of states to handle foreign affairs. It's powers were limited to, and are still supposed to be limited to: war, peace, foreign negotiation, and foreign commerce.
  10. Sure thing TwoTrack. I spent a lot of my youth working on my grandfather's farm with a crank-start Farmall 'A'. The real beast was the John Deere (model 'B' I think, with the tricycle wheel configuration). Open the two compression relief valves and spin the flywheel to start. I remember that being a lot of work for a skinny little 12 year old kid who probably weighed less than the flywheel. ETA: Come to think of it, most of my memories from the list came from being with my grandparents. Including being toilet trained in an outhouse.
  11. Hmmm. What was the question again?
  12. I use a plastic kiddie sled. Just have to be careful to stay on the packed trail. I stepped off the edge yesterday and took a good tumble. With this amount of snow I'm more worried about cutting for next winter. It doesn't look like the tractor will be in the woods until June.
  13. How is your supply holding out this year? I'm hoping everyone's doing okay in these miserable arctic conditions.
  14. 14 of 15. Sometimes I think I was born old
  15. I'm really curious about the..."plus tips;)" part of the first one.
  16. Very nice wooly! 1 and 4 are more readily recognizable for what they are because of the skull orientation, while 2 and 3 are a bit more abstract and require more viewer attention. I like them all!
  17. I missed the Christmas tree thing. I'm not going back to look for it either. A 'soon to be illegal because I don't like it' machete is a standard tool among those who work outdoors for a living. Duh. I really should have taken a more government-friendly job when I had the chance 25 or 30 years ago. "I coulda been a contenda"
  18. Don't ask me why. I sign your paycheck.
  19. I'm not sure it fits with your question, but: I invite people to my house, which is basically a well-built shack full of books, guns, and firewood, with a drum-kit where there would normally be a sofa. Good food, good music, good conversation, and a generally warm atmosphere. Then a guest will ask me how I can live like this in my little shack as opposed to something more 'normal'. My standard answer is, "how can I not?" It always leaves me wondering what they think I'm missing.
  20. FUD. Fear, Uncertainty, Doubt. The political currency of the left. Scare the hell outta everybody so that you can grab a little more control. The typical citizen buys into it. That the criminals aren't typical citizens is conveniently overlooked.
  21. Everyone is free to read these threads or ignore them. And again, everyone is free to engage in the conversation or to be silent.
  22. NYS has my info from 1981 when I got my pistol permit. I have a couple of well-used machetes from around that time as well. This has nothing to do with 'weapons'. It's about controlling the citizens. Again, you either understand the overall intent or you don't.
  23. I'd prefer that no one knows anything about what I own. Quite frankly, it's none of their business. The government, federal and state, is trying to make it their business. That's what's troubling.
