And you wouldn't have missed it for the world, I'll bet. Maybe snowshoes would have helped?

Safe act confusion
philoshop replied to Borngeechee's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
The original question was, "...are they more worthy of self protection..." The answer to that is no. Everyone is equally worthy of self-protection. Do LEOs have more to worry about? Absolutely. That they have more to worry about is basically a part of the job they've chosen. I have about a dozen friends and family in LE. Not a single one would ever consider themselves somehow more worthy of self-protection. -
I usually manage to avoid such poorly written junk, but thanks for the chuckle.

Safe act confusion
philoshop replied to Borngeechee's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
Being in law enforcement automatically conveys certain privileges to the badge-holder, just like being in politics conveys certain privileges to the office-holder. It's an entirely different set of rules from what the citizens are expected to live by, and it's been going on for centuries. The guys who wrote the US Constitution and founded this country changed that, but somehow it's coming back. -
From one vertically-challenged HNY'er to another...Happy Birhday!!!!

I can think of about a dozen or so that I'd really like to have back, and I don't own a single one that I regret buying.

Are Magnum rifle really unnecessary
philoshop replied to Borngeechee's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
I don't have a clue about this firearm, but I'd guess it's pretty potent. The only thing 'magnum' about it is the guy that has to carry it around all day. -
Democrats Reload On Ammo Ban

I might also have read somewhere that "armor-piercing" ammunition causes global warming, diabetes, obesity, toenail fungus, and erectile dysfunction. -
Patriot Act
philoshop replied to diplomat019's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
The Patriot Act was originally made law to help protect the citizens. It is now being used to help protect the government. Most people don't understand that distinction, and the followers of the current administration are particularly blind to it, although the participants of that administration are definitely not. The very same thing can be said of every regulatory bureaucracy currently in place. It doesn't matter how they were started, or by whom, or for what reason. What matters is how they are currently being used, and to what end. It doesn't take a lot of study to see where agencies like EPA, FDA, FCC, BLM, and a host of others are currently headed. The tragic part of this scenario is that it has set a precedent that future leaders and lawmakers will almost certainly be compelled to follow. See Diplomat019's image above. The next POTUS will be handed a system that has been steadily broken from within over the past several decades. Change won't even begin to happen from within that system until the citizens decide whether they want to be governed, or ruled. -
The '401k tour'? I have a great deal of respect for any group of musicians that can hold it together for as many years as they have. God bless 'em. I was a huge fan of the whole concert scene in my younger days, and I saw most of the biggies as they traveled through in the 1970's and 80's. The only way to get me near those crowds today is to put me behind the drum kit where I can watch the watchers. Even then it can be a little creepy at times.

Welcome aboard BellR! Gator pics can wait, do you have any pics of grass, weeds, or shrubbery? Anything that's not covered in snow?

Sounds to me like a bunch of bureaucrats hoping to keep their jobs after the current administration leaves.

When the current administration and its followers decided that the US Constitution was simply an obstacle standing in the way of their desire to "...fundamentally change..." the country they came up with a solution. Just ignore that "...outdated piece of paper..." and hope that it goes away.

Best "Gun" Movie (Not a War Movie)
philoshop replied to wildcat junkie's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
"Silverado", 1985. Amazing cast lineup and an entertaining movie. They went to great lengths to get authentic sounds for the individual guns as well. Henry rifles, Colt peacemakers, etc. Sorry, no pics. -
I'm pretty sure the herd has heard from the regulators that migration is not allowed.

My grandfather was a dentist. My father and brother are both dentists. I just didn't have the patients. Funny part is, it's true.

Liberal Thinking Interesting......

This has nothing to do with how 'they' feel as a group. This is about how some people feel the need to be outraged for others. Outrage by proxy, as it were. -
One's life experience is the foundation for their perception of the world. Limits on the former will always result in limits on the latter.

Liberal Thinking Interesting......
philoshop replied to greg54's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
I have a similar life-long friend. We've agreed to not discuss politics when we get together for a few drinks. If I met him today the only thing we would agree on is that we couldn't possibly be friends. I'll be the best man in his wedding in August. 45 years of friendship and history will trump current politics every time. The cracker comments came mostly when I was hired as the only white guy on a residential framing crew in Louisiana in the 70's. The 8 of us learned a lot from each other that summer. -

To most people I know a redskin is a tasty variety of potato. I have a Native American farmer friend who proudly calls himself a redskin, hates the Washington Redskins only because they're from DC, and sells redskin potatoes to me. To him it won't be an issue until he's forced to change the labeling on his bags of produce. I've been called a 'white cracker' a few times in the past. Though I prefer the term 'Saltine American' I'm not going to spend any energy pursuing it in federal court, and if a sports team wants to call themselves The Crackers I won't take it personally. -

At various times over the last 40 years I've been: a trapper, a carpenter, a musician, an architect, a woodworker, a writer, a teacher, a motorcycle racer, a ski instructor, a beach bum... Some day I'll figure out what I want to be when I grow up. In the meantime, I'm building really nice kitchens and bathrooms.
