  1. I had a friend of mine who has a great deer tracking dog go and look to be sure. He said the dog went 200 yards and never picked up a thing no blood, hair, or broken arrow piece. He is confident the deer was never hit and thinks the arrow deflected off the branches and is in a tree somewhere way off course from the shot. His dog is extremely well trained i watched him let her go from the truck and without even walking to the shot location run from the parking lot and find a buddies deer in all of 5 minutes. The guy swears up and down he killed it but I trust the dog and the trainer a little more. As all of you said my "friend" really showed his character last night, he won't be hunting with me again.
  2. Well guys wish I was posting this on happier terms. Many of you may remember my last post when I shot low on a nice ten point. Well I have a friend who has been begging me to take him out as he lost his spots from last year. I took him out and he shot two deer on one of my spots. Today he asked again because he needed meat for a family member who can't hunt this year due to injury. I agreed trying to be a good friend and took him out and sat in the same tree together at the spot where I had the encounter with the ten. I said shoot whatever you want my only condition was if the ten point comes out and you have a clear shot on your side of the tree you can shoot it, if it is on my side of the tree I want to take the shot. Fair enough I thought, long story short, 10 point steps out is under thick cover on a trail that would put him at 10 yards broadside right in front of me, I get ready, in disbelief I get another crack at him. Knowing I have a history with this buck from the encounter and many trail cam pictures from scouting efforts I figured my friend would be happy this deer was making his way towards me. Then the last thing I expected happened, my friend takes a severely quartered to shot through thick branch cover and all I here is a loud pop almost like someone shooting a milk jug. Pissed he would take a stupid shot like that especially when the deer was coming right into my lane and was no where in his shooting vicinity he claimed to make a good hit. No blood, no arrow, no hair and just that loud almost hollow pop? Could this be a shot into a tree or did he wound the buck on a stupid decision? Never heard a sound like that before, needless to say I don't think I'm taking him out to hunt with me after that.
  3. Was in Carmel this morning. Its crazy windy, got blown out of the stand around 8:30 used the time to do a short scouting walk.
  4. 3n watched a spike break two does of a group and breed one. first sign of the rut this year, fingers crossed the 8 I'm hunting works his way by.
  5. Just had a group of doe work their way into the field I'm sitting the edge of. Passed on a big doe when I noticed they were a little edgy and watched a spike chase two around and breed one. First sign of the rut I've seen in 3n so far. This wind does make staying out here a little tough though.
  6. Shot a doe in 3N last night, she was still with another doe and a yearling and she didn't smell at all. Heard from a buddy they are chasing around in 3s but I have been out every afternoon the last 2 weeks and haven't seen anything that indicates they are ready yet. Hopefully this weekend it's bound to break soon.
  7. Happens to us all. I practiced everyday for 4 months either on the ground or out of a tree. When my chance came on a big 10 Sunday I punched him low and off he went, not a drop of blood. I think as many pointed out dropping the arm to peak is a big issue for many of us. We get so caught up in the moment and immediately want to see the deer dash off with blood spilling showing us how good of a shot we put on it. Next oppurtunity keeping calm and focused on the one hair and your form should deliver that perfect shot, it's something I know I have to work on as well lol.
  8. Got the word back that the buck was hit in the brisket most likely as some of you had suggested. No blood after the spot of the shot and the dog couldn't come up with much after the initial 50 yards despite working the whole thicket. Disappointing but an unfortunate part of hunting, hopefully we'll cross paths again later on this season. Thanks for the input and help
  9. Yes trained tracking dog the owner does field trials with them and spends all his spare time constantly working with them.
  10. Thanks got stuck at work longer than I thought, my dad and his friend brought the dog out they're walking out now. Hoping for the best
  11. We looked for blood at the entrance of the thicket didn't want to push to far in and bump him up. We heard him running in at first after the shot and then nothing no crash no sound of running almost like he stopped and bedded right there or came to a walk

  13. Definitely in the stomach the more I think of it. Not a great shot but I feel more at ease that I will find him thanks for the input and help guys. That picture was awesome, I'll keep you posted on the recovery effort
  14. That is an awesome picture. I've been shooting further back than needed all along apperentky. Going of that I would think it hit between the stomach and liver. Maybe the diaphragm too
  15. Thanks last thing I wanted to do is chase him into people's yards don't need that headache. Sorry meeant 25 yards
  16. I really wanted to be out there now but with couldn't with work. They wouldn't let me come in late but I'm only working until 11 and running home, makes it tough cause I leave my house at 430 in the morning for work.
  17. Hey guys, Last night I got lucky and had an absolute monster 10 point walk out at 5. The only shot I could take was a quick right shot in a lane before he hit thick cover. Upon releasing the arrow I thought I saw it go low and back kind of in the gut/liver area (wasn't happy about that). Anyway I gave him time went down and found my arrow completely greased from top to fletchings in heavy fat and a light pink chunk of what looked to be organ on the ground with blood. Other than that no blood and he ran into the thickest stuff imaginable. My buddy who had a similar expierence said that with a buck that big the fat could've plugged the hole like his did last year. I estimate the live weight to be right around 200. We did see the six pointer he was with bust out of the cover they ran into about an hour and a half later by himself. Bringing in a dog this afternoon after work but looking for opinions and thoughts. I haven't been able to think of anything since it's killing me to think I may have wounded the animal.
  18. Awesome bucks love the look of massive tight racked bucks
  19. I have a brand new in the package Red and Black Ripcord Ace drop away rest. Bought it to put on my new obsession bow turns out the rest will not function properly with the style of the riser. This is a 145.00 model, I am selling for 135.00 has all parts never shot with only took out mounted and removed. Taking a 10 dollar hit, comment here or call Jon at (845) 531 7476, located in Putnam County.
  20. Never got this for deer. Have gotten and sent back for spring turkey numbers the last two years.
  21. I know it's close to the season but made an impulse purchase on a bow and I don't need three kicking around so putting one up for sale. I have a 2014 Mathews Monster Chill that was only used on two hunts, shot roughly 100 times and kept in a bow safe. Currently set up maxed at roughly 72 lbs and set at a 26.5 inch draw. The bow can easily be set up to a 28.5 inch draw with the proper module, you can find them on ebay for around $20 or most pro shops carry them. Bow comes with a Black Gold Lost Camo Rush site, Trophy Ridge Revolution drop away rest, peep, kisser, loop, and I could throw in 6 27 inch easton axis arrows. For the package $850 Bare bow option available if you prefer.
  22. Hey guys, I have recently picked up a new obsession and as with any new bow purchase, why not spend even more money and get all new toys lol. I have been tossing the idea around of trying out a single pin slider sight to cut down on the clutter. I am pretty set on the Black Gold Ascent Ambush as I have had their multi pins and they are as dependable as you can get IMO (still have one on my carbon spyder). Typically my set ups present me with a 10-30 yard shot although i do have one spot on a field edge I could shoot out to 80 if i really wanted to. My concern with the single pin is having time to range, move and draw on an animal without them closing or increasing the distance. I also like to self film hunts from time to time and am a little worried that a movable pin would just be a headache to use with a camera. Any input and experiences are appreciated.
  23. That would have been awesome thank you. The elite is definitely a great bow but the obsession just had that edge. Going off the test shots it sure seems like it. I can't wait to get it set and dialed in.
  24. Well shot the obsession knight mare, evolution, and the elite E32. Evolution impressed me but just a touch to long for my liking, the E32 didn't wow me but the knightmare was hands down the best bow I've ever had in my hands imo. Balance was phenomenal, quick, quiet, no noticeable handshock (bow only had loop and rest) and just overall awesome. Needless to say my wallet is hating me right now but there's a stormy camo knightmare on its way
