    All set ready for light. Got an agonizing shin splint, but still made the mile hike

    A lot of small game is open too. Yes I believe youth is today as well.

    Care needs to be taken when harvesting small puffballs. Each specimen needs to be sliced in half to ensure that there is no gill structure present. The concern is that the button stage of the Destroying Angel and also the Death Cap look similar to puffballs.

    Actually scratch that. Upon closer look I wasn't seeing the little gems on the surface so I checked my sources and they're called pear-shaped puffballs. They are edible.

    Yep. Gem-studded puffballs. I like these a little more than giant puffballs.

    I was at full draw on a doe at 15yds. I let her walk. Gotta work in the am and I'm 3/4 mile up in the woods. Saw 2 scrub bucks and 4 doe.

    I bet if I start bringing a dozen arrows the deer will think I'm a bad shot and waltz by.... I'm off quiver shopping! Lol

    Just heard the first gun shot of the day over towards Bristol. I chatted briefly at the road this morning with a guy and his young son heading in with bows. Told him where I was going so I didn't mess up their hunt. Can't wait til my boy is old enough!

    At first light I hadn't been on stand(ground) more than 4 minutes and pretty sure I was getting huffed at by a bear about 80yds away. Never saw it. Nothing since.

    Tucked in for my 3rd hunt this season

    So far this year in 6 hours of bowhunting I've seen 10 deer and 5 of those we're bucks. Only one of the bucks was a shooter in my book and I couldn't get a shot. This year is shaping up to be a good one!

    Then you gotta carry that flea bitten thing home and cook it![emoji4] Trust me, your time for anxiety will come when a deer just appears under your stand. They can be stealthy like that! You pretty much summed it up yourself. Hunting IS the part where you wait patiently. Killing is just killing. I'm not judging you, just trying to encourage you to have patience and confidence in your stand location. The deer will come. Good luck

    Bow season only lasts so long, squirrel season goes practically all winter. Just sayin.... that monster buck could be Just out of sight. Happy hunting.

    My brother got attacked by one a couple years ago. Except he had shot it and ran to retrieve it without his gun. It attacked and he finally pinned it down and finished it off with his knife. Did get bit a few times on his arms though.
