Sorry bud none here, I don't want to be held liable for injuries! LOL Be safe with that. Are you sure there are 0 hairline fractures that could extend up the shaft a few inches?
-
Saw chasing and heard fighting a few days ago. Like others said, it's just starting.

How long do you leave your powder and bullet in the gun

Hot wax and a nipple pick! WTF -
How long do you leave your powder and bullet in the gun
PREDATE replied to mark3885's topic in Muzzleloaders
Pretty much the same for me. It depends on weather. I've seen actual barrel "condoms" but I figure those finger condoms that are used for bandages would do the trick. Usually if I know I'll be hunting the next day I'll just leave the gun in the vehicle overnight so condensation won't build due to heat. On the subject of breech moisture, do you guys dry fire a primer after swabbing the barrel? I learned that the hard way and had a huge delay between primer and powder. I shoot a Rem. 700ML and the flash channel is fairly narrow. I can say that hasn't happened since I converted it to use 209primers I've been wanting to switch to loose powder for a few years and this is the year it will happen. So for those of you that use loose, could you recommend a good speed loader that I can carry pre-measured charges in? -
Yep. I used to think it was due to colder weather up until a few years ago when some oldtimers mentioned shorter days.
-
Some folks believe that it actually has to do with shorter days. Not sure about weather, but it does seem like their "winter" coats should be pretty much developed. I took a grey fox (hunting) a few days ago with a beautiful pelt and have seen pics of others. I'll be making some K9 sets soon too. Good luck!

I traveled from Broome to Cattaraugus county and back today (340 miles) . Deer were on their feet all day along Rt.17 Cool weather will enhance daytime sightings! Good luck everyone! It's "that" time. Shoot straight!!!!

I made a post in "live from the stand" about the encounter I had this evening. After hearing bucks fighting/grunting a big buck was on the heels of 2 doe, grunting the whole way. They came by me @ 15 yds. The buck offered no shot. Also saw a scrub buck on my way in @ 4:50.
-
I sat(ground) for the last hour this evening. Bumped a bedded scrub buck on my way in. With 10 minutes of shooting light I heard bucks fighting and grunting. 20 seconds later 2 doe came running by and stopped 15yds downwind staring at me. A big buck was right on their heels and grunting. He stepped behind some brush and I drew back. The does blew and ran, but the buck stayed behind the brush. He would've only needed to take 2 more steps for a clear shot, but he slowly dissolved into the thicket. As far as the rut, I'd say from seeing/hearing it first hand that it's upon us!

I took my 8pt. last year from 7R. Those are nice pics. Your next camera check should be interesting!

Flop it back over and rent yourself a stump grinder.

I'm pretty much on the PA border(10 miles). No property damage in my neighborhood. Power stayed on. There was a loss of life just across the border in Susquehanna County,PA. An 8 year old boy was killed by a fallen tree branch just before 5:30 yesterday.

I hear ya' arrow nocker. I'll hunt all day in a pouring rain, but the wind is another thing! I've seen too many trees come down with a fury to not want to be on the recieving end of it. Like I said in a post about safety tips, it only takes a small branch to fall and impale ya! I like to do the impaling (with 100grains of Muzzy)! LOL

Bumping a wounded deer can cause the deer to "outrun the blood" making tracking difficult. If it's not difficult after bumping them, the deer will expire soon(mortal wound), but then again a mortally wounded deer should be dead well before you find it! I let em' lay too. For how long depends on precipitation and shot placement. If it's not going to rain I usually give em' 2 hours.
-
That's wierd. I'm about 10 miles from the PA border and it hasn't gotten too bad, nothing majorly severe(yet)! Wind @ 31mph right now. Rain has been off and on. I suppose being near the lake might have something to do with it though.

Fairfield/Anderson HIll Game lands
PREDATE replied to squirrel slayer's topic in Small Game and Predator Hunting
I deer hunt @ anderson. Seems to have decent tree rat population, like most other forested areas in the northeast! lol -
I know someone in J.C. that needs 16ga. steel shot if you have some.
-
That's precisely the reason that I junk the practice tips. I always sacrifice a broadhead and practice with it. I don't shoot rage broadheads, only fixed blade muzzys. I sometimes sharpen the practice blades with a file and whetstone and keep it with me for small game(fox, coyotes, turkeys). It sounds like your sharp broadheads were grouping consistantly! You should be ok for this season if you sight in with a new one. My dad lost a 6pt. shot with the rage 2-blade. It bled good for a while, then blood dried up. I won't use them.

Been out all day. I bumped a few deer not 100 yds from vehicle. Sat til' 11:00. No deer came through. I still hunted til 12:30 no deer. I did find a sweet spot for my climber right where I saw a monster buck while I was trapping last year! Hopefully he's still around!

Sorry, not hunting related but the sickest &$#* I've read
PREDATE replied to Elmo's topic in General Chit Chat
There are men and women who protect and serve and deserve commemoration. On the flipside, the "state thugs" are just simply portraying the personna created by honest law enforcers. I believe every cop should have a "little black box" like the ones on airplanes. Then every move they make, good or bad would be timestamped and logged. On a lighter note, check out this link about a cop in my area who came into work intoxicated. For someone we trust to be able to think on their feet, he's surely not the brightest crayon in the box! I chuckled @ this and said to myself,"how could someone be so dumb", but then we see the original link that Elmo posted and it does make ya' wonder! http://www.wbng.com/news/local/Binghamton-Police-Officer-Resigns-After-DWI-Arrest-175977451.html -
HaHa! Guess I was preoccupied watching the critters!
-
That's dedication! Something I would've done in my youth too! I don't know the area, but being stateland it could be getting pretty pressured. I take that you're hunting from the ground? We've got some rainy weather on the way. That's my favorite time to scout(in the pouring down rain). The deer will be bedded, the leaves aren't crunchy, and I often spot deer in their beds. Also, any scent you leave will be washed away. The deer will learn your habits. Try( depending on wind direction) to enter the woods from different angles. Be patient, the deer are gonna start getting squirly in the next week. You might arrow a slob if you keep trying as hard as you have been! Good luck!
-
I must've missed that, I had to keep volume low(my fiance was sleepin).
-
That's cool! I'm just saying that if a 6K doesn't come down the pipe, you can still get your doe. Personally, I would shoot a doe on state land and hunt on the private land for the biggun'! Either way, I wish you luck this season!

Fallow deer? LOL
