Sounds great! My dad used to pickle them. A buddy of mine a few years ago ate 2 hearts in the wintertime and had a stroke. His doc said to eat them only during summer when you can sweat it out. I'll have to look into it some more, because they sure are tasty!
-
Are they still nesting on the security mutual building?
-
Ah, the Peregrine. They are truly awesome. I just saw 3 bald eagles soaring over Broome County yesterday. It brings an old Bob Seger song to mind, "Roll Me Away".
-
I saw a similar pic a couple years ago with a few guys from just over the PA border. That's a lot of fur to put up!
-
A small game license and permission from the land owner is all you need. Oh, and it helps to not be afraid of sasquatch and/or Mountain lions!
-
Me too! That's cool! Just don't shoot me. I'll be the thing that looks like a snowdrift with a stick poking out of it!!

How do you set up for coyotes daytime?
PREDATE replied to nybuckboy's topic in Small Game and Predator Hunting
Either will work. Thick stuff with a shotgun or field/woods with a rifle. Set call cross/upwind from you. Start on low volume just in case there are some close. If you have an idea of where they're bedding during the day, try to sneak in close @ first light to catch them heading to bed. The wind is your biggest enemy. If they can sneak through cover to wind you they will and you may never even see em'. You've got a good call, so sneak in and have fun! -
My gun(Marlin 25MN) begs for plain old Winchester(gray box)40gr.Jacketed Hollow Points. I've thought about trying the Federal 50grainers, but quarter size groups @ 100yds. doesn't leave much room for improvement!
-
I like the 1100 (Quick shouldering)! With a superfull choke, 2 3/4 shells will topple a turkey out to 70yds.
-
I zero mine @ 70yds. Tracking after a chest shot can be tough without snow. No snow = headshot!
-
Over? With deer season over it's just heating up for us who hunt predators.
-
Sounds like a shed(mancave) with a perfect view of the back 40 and a heater would be right up your alley.LOL A few topshelf beverages and some buddies with building tools should ease your woes!
-
Yep. Sure is. If you mentioned the name Bucky I'm sure Rick could confirm. Good luck on monday!

This is great to see. My granddad who passed last year was a NYS falconer for over 30 years. He had numerous red-tails, a few coopers, harris, kestrels and a few goshawks. They are a sight to behold and some of my fondest childhood memories were with gramps while my brother and I would flush the bunnies for em'. He took on many aprentices, including our local(region7) ECO. The newsletters from NYSFA called "hawkchalk" and "musenews" still come in the mail addressed to him so I keep them. Thanks for sharing.

I was figuring it was a disgruntled wife getting back @ her husband for hunting too much!! Don't quote me but, the posts you've already made will probably still be visible. I'd say, if it conflicts with your newly founded views then just don't log in or be a part of the site. If it's due to security or confidentiality reasons it's probably too late. After all it is a public forum. The views generated by some folks don't speak for the rest of us. Just sayin'

No you're stuck with it! LOL You might want to PM a moderator for assistance

Here's mine from last year. One tip I have is to make a paste from the Peroxide by mixing it with Borax. It makes it easier to spread on. Rinse and repeat.
-
I tote a 12ga with #4buck and a .22mag. I've used my dads rig a few times and it's hard to beat. M&P15(.223) topped with an ATN Gen3 nightvision scope

A good, powerful, cheap light is the black&decker handheld from Walmart. Not the rechargeable ones. These take 4 AAs. I bought one last year for $20 They're red with a pistol grip style handle. I used a red sharpie marker to color the lens. The CREE XP LED(bulb) is pretty intense!

Tx for the link. Tactics are always evolving especially now that electronic callers are becoming more prevalent. It's good for all hunters (new & experienced) to keep up with the times and throw another tool in the bag.

I conquer. It happens every year. It's NYS and $ talks!

Treestand placement etiquette on PRIVATE LAND???
PREDATE replied to regulat0r's topic in Deer Hunting
I agree. You could leave an FYI note in a ziploc bag and attach it to the stands. Simply write that you're the only one with permission to be there and any trespassers will be reported. Whether the landowner will actually file a report or not, it should keep them from returning. You should also lock your stuff up if there are violators lurking around. -
looking for hunting land in newark valley area
PREDATE replied to squirrel slayer's topic in Region 7
You can also access Oakley Corners from Snapp Rd. Turn off Rt.38B onto Snapp. the road dead ends down near the swamp. I haven't been in there this year, but I know they harvested logs in there last year so it should be fairly easy to walk on the logging roads. It used to be so thick that a 75 yd shot was hard to get. -
mac, mostly Feds for my guns(regular & truball). Do you know the size of choke of your barrel? Here's a link to an article written by Dave Henderson. He's from my area of NY and used to write a column for our local paper.http://www.buckmaste...ght-slug-2.aspx
