  1. I've been fighting this battle with the fiddle head ferns at camp for the last few years.. I just do it like Doc says.. with an added healthy dose of concentrated Roundup
  2. These Bozos would never kill a deer in the name of conservation... but for a movie is perfectly okay... unbelievable!
  3. Wow I really never thought of things that way.. I definitely will now! Great post Doc! One really can learn something here..LOL
  4. Had mine done since Feb... just don't need the last minute pressure thing.
  5. Yeah I bet he's just shakin' in his boots... he is meeting them at his home tomorrow.
  6. If just used as decoys... these actually are not a bad idea... if they actually work that is... I'm not sure that a turkey painted on an umbrella is gonna fool a big tom turkey. I'm sure these fellas don't advocate using these things to sneak up on birds, but we all know some goofball out there is gonna think its a good idea and become a statistic. For those of us smarter than that.. these umbrellas might be a good way to lug around a decoy if they work.
  7. I hear ya I have a few streams like that..lol

    Couple trout

John Fly fishing is easy!!! It doesn't have to be as intricate as many guys make it out to be...just get on the internet and learn how to set up your rod with the right lines and tippits... learn about a couple ways to make presentations on the water.. learn how to mend your line.. and the rest you will learn as you do the fishing. I learned entirely from reading and doing... it was some of the most fun times fishing I've ever had. You learn that in most streams most the fish are not that picky about what they'll take off the water.... as you start catching fish you'll learn more and more... It's true that there are many stream and rivers where the trout are unbelievably finicky and you better know what the hatch of the day or hour is... and there are a few streams that are big enough to lay out a ton of line and cast like you see in the movies.. but thats really not how it is... trial and error sometimes can be more fun anyway.
  9. LOL.. I dare ya to try not telling anyone if you shoot a buck of that caliber... we can't help ourselves.. it's just in our nature to want tell everyone when we kill a monster like that.. nothing we can do about jealous hunters that need to start nasty rumors to make themselve feel better about having not killed the buck themselves... that sometimes is human nature as well... as for banning him... I think after this thread you probably won't see many posts by him again... I'm sure he never planned on being called out on his accusation.
  10. I heard the remarks that Ted made and there is nothing there worth even taking a second look at... this is much todo about nothin'

    Couple trout

I only had about an hour so I stopped off at one of the turn offs on the way to the Falls... both fish were extremely picky about taking my lures... I just kept changing lure colors until i got thm to take one... I could see many trout in the water but they just weren't interested in what I was throwing at them.... sheer persistance is the only reason I caught those fish... I was on a mission..lol
  12. Like i've always said... what you see in the woods is usually just a product of dumb luck ....some years I see lots of coyotes and others I don't... it's the same with deer and the same with turkeys. Making an assumption that there are less deer or turkeys because there are more coyotes is nothing more than speculation. If things were as bad as most guys have been complaining the last 10 years.. there wouldn't be any whitetails or turkeys at all left on some properties.. we all know that is not the case. It's kind of like saying there are no fish left in the lake because you didn't catch any one day and we need to kill all the fisherman that are lucky enough to catch all the fish...lol
  13. My wife is actually Greek... and she had to google "Greek Easter" to see when it was..LOL
  14. They have only the impact that mother nature allows... there are approx. 1 million whitetails in NY and 20,000 coyotes... that equates to under 2000 family groups across NY.. and about 4000 individual rogue animals... most hunting areas carry just one faily group and a few rogue coyotes....even if each family group killed 50 deer per year (which they do not)... that would account for only 10% of the total NY deer population... which would recover the following year... I agree that there are isolated cases where they have more impact than others, but overall... they have minimal impact in NY.
  15. You're assuming yotes killed them... they may have fed on the carcasses but you can't be sure they killed them... unless maybe they are fawns... it is extremely rare for coyotes to take down adult deer unless there is something wrong with the deer... coyotes don't have huge "packs"... small family units.. yes... but they are not a wolf like pack animal... and don't kill in the same way as wolves as a rule. Is it possible? yes... but not probable.
  16. You must not be hunting them with a spotlight then..lol... sorry I thought you were joking because that sounds so ridiculous. I'll shoot with you all day long at 20 yards with my recurve and I have never lost a bowshot deer and I've shot them all in the evening... I don't think I know one trad bow hunter that isn't as good a shot at 20 yards as most compound shooters.
  17. Just drops off packages?? You obviously have no idea how much work it is delivering for UPS... these guys work 12 hour days and are lugging packages in and out of the truck all day... you can't even compare the type of physical work they do to a cushy teaching job and you teachers still make $13,000 more than the UPS guy and do it in just 9 months... I have taught kids... I found it not only extremely easy, but fun as well... I would have loved doing it full time for 180 days a year and get paid $78,000 + benefits and retirement.
  18. you could even build a versa-lok wall just one or two blocks high and pour concrete inside to give the edge a bit more character.
  19. Tobacco, alchohol, and fat people have been around since the beginning of health care... higher insurance rates are a product of greed by the insurance companies, nothing more, nothing less.
  20. I couldn't agree more .. yet many of the goofballs in office I never voted for and will never have the chance to vote them out... again a case of too many people falling for the BS that these politicians spout... I'm beginning to think there is no fix for the fix we're in. Most Americans just aren't smart enough to see what's going on.
