Thank you for sharing your recent trip with us Robin. Wish it had been better weather for you. Sorry to hear this might be the last trip you make. You Sir, are what hunting is all about. Just doing it, just going out and being in nature. Paddling 12 miles in to hunt deer is dedication, not worrying so much about tagging and just living in the woods like you do is awesome. I can count on one hand the people I know personally that would endure and have the will you do just for the love of the outdoors and hunting deer.

Pardon me?
-
This might get interesting.

Very sorry to hear. A pet is usually more like family then family.

This is true. I am just trying to figure out what the post is about. A vent from an aggravated hunter? A serious question about relocating deer? Or about political spending on the topics brought up?
-
I am not sure I understand the initial post. To make things clear, the OP want's to relocate deer from high population areas to low populations areas? Correct? Well, who is going to accomplish this? That would be the DEC and ECO. As for the money the state puts into those other things, that's a red tape and paper game with more money being spent to lobby then just to sign the piece of paper in front of people who vote these things in. I never got why it costs so much to get a piece of paper signed. But it does. As for a deer relocation process? Still have the bureaucratic BS., add the cost of traps, gas, and man hours to it. I am guessing that would be a steep bill. If you have an over population out there in Oneida Co ( actually more central NY then upstate ), let some of us know. We will be happy to come on over and thin the herds.

Only thing missing from this list is a flashlight. Read as much as possible on hunting. Ask questions and never be afraid to ask a question. The web can help you get the basics down, but being in the woods and gaining experience is the biggest help you can get. Good luck.

Nature: The Private Life Of Deer I watched this today on Netflix Streaming. It was pretty cool to watch, and has some insight to how the Whitetail Deer act. How they see ( which isn't very well ), smell, and hear things. Big thing was some of it was shot right here in NY.

If I remember right, that zombie he killed already had a knife stuck in it's throat. When he grabbed it he cut his hand. I don't watch them over and over, and after I watch them I delete from the DVR. Guess I will have to check OD to see double check. Perhaps this will still lead to him having to cut off his hand. IF he gets out of the situation he's in with all those "walkers" surrounding that RV that won't start.

Sorry if I am wrong on this one Doc, but last I knew anyone who used any state forests or land has to follow the same rules. You are not allowed to cut trees, even downed ones. I used to camp in state forests for a weekend all the time, hunted them, fished them, and the rules/laws were the same for everyone. Did this change? Who said it was his imagination? I see no replies even remotely making that sort of comment. The replies are if you hunt a highly human populated area for deer, you have to deal with that. It's your choice to hunt there, so it is what it is. I have to ask, what are "hikers clothes"? I am not a fashion guru so I honestly didn't know that I/other hikers have to wear specific clothing. If I go small game hunting, I just wear a pair of jeans and a warm jacket, I don't bust out my deer hunting/turkey hunting clothes. What kind of ground blind/stand? A store bought blind?

It did and to mammary proportions. The answer to most of these questions is easy, because a dedicated hunter just ain't right. Not just deer either. We do all these things plus, sit in the woods when the temps are single digit, at time they have a - in front, just to do what we enjoy. As for why deer show up at those inopportune times? That's easy. They heard us clumsily stumble through the woods with a light on our head like some kind of alien, smelling like last nights stew ( re-furbished ), and laugh. Then they watch as we get set up and cuss because we forgot something. Because they hear us even though we think we were quiet. Then they just lay down and watch us laughing. When we decide to move out they think "Teehee, that jack ass never saw me, now it's time to taunt!". Then they pop up and make us feel like idiots. I would expect nothing less from a deer then to mock us when they can. The tales of deer that busted us or taunted us are better then the tales of the actual kill. Why? It's what we do as hunters. All these odd things keep us going back, to our loved sport. That's why.

I don't know how to really interpret if Glen is dead or not. My gut tells me he makes it and is alive. But, you never know. I have picked up a few issues of the comic, and in that world, no one is safe. They are trying to stay true to the comic and keep you on your toes. Anyone can die at any time. As for Morgan and the "Wolves". I think Rick will end up having to take Morgan out, I may be wrong, but the feeling is there. In that world you can't be a candy ass. You do what needs to be done.

I was just talking to my g/f about this one again. There is another reason someone might say no. She stated very clearly that if we lived in the country and owned land, she would not let anyone on our property if I wasn't home. She mentioned all the crazies out there killing people. So police or not she would say no. I can see her point on that one. As for the having to have a tag to posses a deer? That's not always the case. If you hit a deer with your car in June you have the option of keeping the deer after calling the police, no tag needed. At least as far as I k now this is the case. How does the law work if say, in spring you are plowing a field/food plot and a deer runs in front of the tractor? I know, I know, most would shut up and add it to the freezer. But say you aren't like that and you call DEC. Do you get the same option as hitting it with your car? You can keep and you don't need a tag?

Next journal entry. I was going to go hunt small game/turkey on Wednesday in a new area state land for scouting purposes in the SZ. Changed my mind. Going to hunt the NZ private land for deer.
-
That changed. Deer hunting Wed. NZ.
-
This is a good point. Most of the people posting on this thread would be pissed off if a hunter outside the permission group went on their land for any reason without permission. They would call DEC, ECO, local police, state police, mommy, and want to beat the trespassers ass for going on their land. Flip it, and they will break the law to retrieve a deer. Hmmmm........
-
Why is that? What do you mean ALL?
-
Not just the turnovers, penalties are killing us this year. The Bills should have put the hurt to the Giants. With the talent the Bills have, we should be more like 6-1 right now, maybe 5-2. Starting QB hurt, both starting WR's hurt.
-
I think I will take a ride out there Tuesday or Wednesday morning and have a look with a boots on ground POV. Take the 12 with some #6 shot and look around a bit. Area has me curious. Can't hurt. A few hours in the woods hunting for small game or fall turkey beats not hunting at all if you have the chance.
-
Many people been using them already. I don't see how it would hurt.
-
I agree 100% eddie.

Actually it's not that simple. Proving people were purposely trying to ruin your hunt on public land would be tricky, very tricky. Did they see you ( I doubt this one more then the rest as bow hunters go above and beyond to not be seen by deer so most people won't see you either )? Did they come under your stand and make a ruckus? Did they throw rocks at you or scream about hunting? Did they bother your vehicle? All those people have the same rights to be there as you do. There is law enforcement going to care if someone is on public land laughing or talking loudly. Hell, there's not a damn thing you can do if the break out a blanket and a radio and have a picnic. Or if a bunch of people use the area for a paint ball war game area. Is it frustrating? YES! Should people respect hunters? YES! But, the bottom line is, YOU DO NOT OWN THAT LAND! It comes with hunting areas where other people use the land for other recreations heavily. As people on this thread and other threads like it have said, if the area gets heavy use from people deer will be used it. The smells the noise etc. . Perhaps try to set up play the commotion to you favor? I apologize for being a bit gruff. I just don't get why so many hunters get mad when you know you are hunting an area with a high volume of human traffic and people making noise. Or ask how to deal with it. I get that for some that's your only option. But you know what you are getting into, or at least you should, so you just have to suck it up and hunt. I also get that people get frustrated and need to vent, nothing wrong with that.

Cool and thank you for the info turkeyfeathers. Forgot to say mike, that looks mighty tasty. Sorry about that. Nice to see people ground meat for jerky.
