Red Flash is better suited for pics than video from a deer avoidance perspective.
-
First off - the fact that the video files won't play in some people's Windows Media Player is like saying my Ford Escape Hybrid is junk because I can't run E85 in it, just regular old gasoline. It's merely a file type and downloading a free video playing program, isn't a big deal. This is the age or apps and programs. If anything, blame Bill Gates, because Windows isn't the 500 lb gorilla in the room any longer. Second - the water. I have had condensation on two of my Coverts. Let's just say that's a small fraction of the Coverts I run. There's a multitude of reasons behind it, most brought on by the user, but the case itself can warp in certain circumstances. The warping can occur when using a python lock or lock box because the user tightens down the cam into the case/or with the python that it warps the housing. More often than not, it's simply a facet of changing batteries or cards when the cam is in a humid environment or when it is raining. The condensation is seen when the difference in night/day temp is big. It has not ever once resulted in a card corruption for me, and if I have a cam that keeps doing that for some reason, I simply return it. Look at the upper latch area, if that is not visibly warped, it's likely user error. I've also had junk get in the seal of the rubber lining, causing water to go in. The problem you want to avoid is repeated condensation that will eventually break down the internals. The funny thing is though, I've had a Covert under water overnight and not a drop of water got in it. Third - corrupt card. I find this in most cases to either be the card or the user not formatting the card. Format the card in the cam, and then turn it to on. Use that card for the cam. Cards also go bad pretty easily as contacts on the cards can be worn down. I will say I had some issues with Sandisk cards in my Coverts. I formatted them and it seemed to resolve 90% of the problems. Ones that kept giving me issues, I junked the cards and other brands have worked fine, like PNY, or DaneElec or Team GB. Memory cards are notoriously finicky and are often the cause of may problems people associate with a camera, regardless of brand. To help run you Red 40 on video, turn down the light output to half. This will help avoid the deer in headlights look, although I am a big proponent of black flash. The '13 Red 40 takes great vids. Also, run it on 720P and not 1080 as the frame rate is higher in 720 and will provide much better quality.

Sorry, you can't read humor in that either? LOL.
-
I'm sorry, but working your way up the food chain the hard way and reaping what they sow is way better than trying to win over the favor of Catskill Hunter.
-
They certainly went for the buck on those cams. WGI is part of a big umbrella company, but their cams suck compared to others they could have put their name on, albeit for less money.
-
And, don't forget they're a crossover - not just hunting entertainment.

I know the farm attached to their house is 350 acres or so. Certainly not big, but I believe their other farms are not directly tied to their names. I do know they own/manage 6k acres, which does include athlete and musician owned land within their immediate vicinity.
-
of course im sure they bury their income into their farms and businesses. plenty of people do it on any level of taxable income.
-
I'm not saying they are filthy rich, but they are the pinnacle of deer hunting endorsements along with Waddell. They are not the "masses" like most other hunting shows. I suspect they make more than most people think. I suspect the "masses" make less than people think. They are the 1% of the hunting celebrities. It takes $50-65k to run a 13 episode hunting show on Pursuit Channel. That's just what is paid to the bottom barrel hunting channel for a bottom of the barrel time slot. Imagine being on the Outdoor Channel in primetime. Costs are high, but in order to have high costs, you have to be able to offset them easily enough. But for the Lakoskys - the Outdoor Channel pays them to be on it through a multi-year exclusive deal. That's how important they are in the hunting world.

Seven figures wouldn't surprise me at all, that's only 200k for 5 years.

Don't get me wrong, he leased at the onset. He's just gotten far enough that he's acquiring farms. Kiskys actually started out as farmers though. Also, from what I understand several people with large bankrolls have bought ground within his area and he manages it with the ability to hunt on it as well.
-
The UA contract alone for them was seven figures from what I have heard and seen from multiple people who interact with them.
-
They own a lot of ground as do the Drurys and Kisky families. They're not so much into the leasing, although they do that from time to time. They've just been so successful they're buying ground now.
-
The farms are actually ran as farms. Farms can be profitable if operated properly. What he's doing is consolidating large farm markets. You see this here in NY, many farms are either dying out and being sold to the successful farms that are gobbling up land share and improving their efficiency. Once they start acquiring land and farms, while it's not "easy", they can start to leverage their assets to buy more ground, and in many cases it doesn't cost as much to them because of gov't subsidies and programs. I know people rag on them, but they've done what many people wish they could (not the TV part, but the general life success part). One was an engineer and the other an airline stewardess. They saved coin, moved south a state and worked up to the dream they had.

In the OP case, are they not shed antlers? If so, wouldn't they be obtainable as such? Don't know about broken antlers. This is no different than if someone shot a button or a spike with 2.9in antlers as I see it. If I shot a 2.9in spike, it's going on my DMP as such. Whatever it is, do what is legal, and what is right to you.
-
NY goes by antlered and antlerless. When you reach down to attach the tag, if it doesn't have antlers, it doesn't have antlers. It has nothing to do with honesty. I'm not lying or being unethical or being immoral...I'm simply tagging according to the law. I suspect he could probably do either and be OK legally and personally with his moral compass.

Looking to lease in counties around Rochester

Good luck! -
Antlerless if he walked up to it with no antlers on its head.

No wonder I could smell the wafting odor of hair gel and Axe body spray at the same time I could hear the faint "oomph oomph oomph" of the house music nearly directly SSE of me. I knew you had moved before you posted. Sheesh. Welcome to "the real" upstate NY. Someday maybe WNYB and me will give you of tour of what quality NY deer hunting is, lol. There's some great turkey hunting down there. One of my best days afield was turkey hunting in Chemung Co. Very scenic place.

Plenty of people use BTSP to hunt with. Price wise the new "deer" specific loads out there have been getting great reviews...Hornady Whitetail, Federal Fusion, and the Winchester variant. They're more price conscious. That said, when you sight in next season, I'd include the Corelokt in the testing.

God bless you Bill. I can only hope to even be thinking about going out and hunting at your age. I hope you find some comforting way to get out there.

A Bushnell Elite 3200. Its like getting hit with an expensive bottle of wine.

I don't think there's a right or wrong here. It depends on the wife/husband. My first wife? I'd love to have taken her hunting and....nevermind I won't go there. My current wife, she's a sweetheart. Her father hunts and she is familiar with the demands that come with it. She can shoot a bow very well. But, I don't ever see her wanting to hunt.
-
I'm not holding back. This was nothing compared to the blood rushing a minute before. He's a right handed shooter too...notice how far left that puppy is.

Oh, I have a pic. LOL. Maybe Moog will tell you how that basket 8 pt is still alive this weekend. It was a tough, but memorable weekend of hunting with Moog.
