  1. Why not trap them coons? Easy and relatively fun. I believe there is a buyer down there who'd taken them green...and who knows, maybe in the round.
  2. I have real bad blight on a chestnut tree in my yard, and the wife won't let me cut it down. It's the first to curl and also to drop leaves. It's clearly got some curl going on. People are going to hate this season if they hunt too close to the "destination" food sources such as big ag fields or plots. There's not going to be much reason for deer to leave their bed safe zones once the oaks are raining. As noted the water is plentiful, making this one of the tougher hunting seasons I think we'll see in a long while. I already have pics of deer eating fallen apples. Apples are loaded too. Certainly a season of plenty.
  3. Good recon thus far. You have some great trees for a stand, but I know that's not your thing. I assume you have a pretty good entry/exit for that 7 acres? Looks like a solid amount of daylight activity. Transition pics like that are common on the 35 series for some reason. Many of the 35s also suffer from an audible click with many pics because of the frequent moving back and forth from IR to no-filter. Turns out, research shows the Truth 35 series to be vulnerable snapping transition pics because of the heavy canopy, which you have in that setting. It'll get better as the leaves fall. I believe the ultra series of 35s fare better with the transition. Not a ton of good press on the 35s - but having said that, there are worse cams out there for the same amount of money. What I would watch for are the pics of the deer looking at the cam. You may want to test it to see how loud the audible click is. If it is bad, you should request replacement imo. Also, move the cam up a bit and angle it down to get it out of the line of sight of the deer.
  4. There's no blanket answer. Sort of like asking what's your game plan for the next nfl team you coach. The object is the same but the plan depends on the team you're playing against. I check cams on average much less in most situations. Typically if I am confiedent, my third check of the year is when I walk in to hunt.
  5. Search. I've posted a fair share of my kills here. Point still stands. Cams and their use can do more damage than good.
  6. Again I disagree. Lets just leave it at that. Some people want pics of big bucks and some people want the bucks on the wall.
  7. I only own a handful of acres. Deer will get used to ag work and residential work. But intruding into their bedrooms is entirely different. You notice people walking down your street...all you do is keep an eye on them. When someone walks across your living room or into your bedroom, your reaction is much different. I hope that makes sense. Also realize that a mature buck is a fully different animal than other deer. What they tolerate is different than does fawns and young bucks.
  8. Checking a camera is the same as going in and out hunting. Every intrusion does damage. No if ands or butts about it. Thats why first time in has a higher percentage rate. A deers nose is nothing to be toyed with. It can process smells individually at the same time. These same people that hunt with carbon wash clothes in scent free soap and do crazy things for hunting will go in stunk up bare hand cams once a week. Cams do more damage than good for most hunters because of poor technique. Sorry but every intrusion lessens your chance on mature bucks. You aren't going to condition him to your stink in his bedroom or living room or hallway.
  9. Every check does damage. Period.
  10. Yes. It is called analytics...there's a huge field devoted to it and its not specifc to hunting. I work for a fortune company on the analytics team...one which is a world leader in the field. Big data is worth a lot of money. Its pervasive in everything you do. Face it...even your posts here are likely being text mined.
  11. Nice 6s. I have a thing for them
  12. If I were set on gaining access privately, I'd stay east side just for proximity sake... No point in driving west through Monroe County when good hunting is at your doorstep (private land that is).
  13. Pretty common out there. Several eastern european countries are the biggest consumer of MMS cell phone cams.
  14. Sounds like the start of a Hostel movie to me. Get that fresh American blood over there, to a hunting cabin in eastern Europe where nobody in the party speaks English. If we don't see you posting come November, we'll know. Hopefully you come back alive, with both kidneys, etc. I like the flashlight idea.
  15. Not me. I love my wife dearly, but she'd talk the poor deer to death before a bullet or arrow reaches them.
  16. Have you looked at the Muddy Bloodsport line? Thats HT now and I believe they rebadged them without a change in the lineup. I saw literally stacks of HT arrows in the Muddy booth at the Ohio Bowhunting Super show for DIRT CHEAP. I mean cheap. cheap. cheap. Stacks of arrows as tall as me at 6'1". They are having the show again in Ohio but at Columbus this time around in March. You should join along...fun show to say the least. I can also show you some public ground in Ohio nearby worth hunting.
  17. SP the neck is what gets me, as gjs4 noted. that's what puts him in that 3 range for me. Almost every 4+ I see in this area closes the gap on the neck/body joining. Genesee County is a known trophy producer and one of the better counties in the state for large bodied bucks. His belly is sagging, which we generally don't see until 4ish around here, but the sway in the back is minimal at best. Usually we'll see them together or not at all in a buck. I always refer to the .5 out of habit as in what he "will" be come fall, lol. No point in calling him 3 right now when I don't care he's 3. I only care he's 3.5 in fall, ha! ***edit....The prior year pics post on the second page jump out at 3.5 then...racehorse profile for sure. His face seems shortish however despite the small ears. Odd buck.
  18. Theres nothing in Chili I know of. Letchworth, Hemlock/Watershed land are the two easiest bets right now for you to at least get in on. Otherwise it's time to start knocking on doors, calls, etc.
  19. Thanks Jeremy, but those definitely won't work as those are QR plugs. My wolf predates the QR.
  20. LOL....3-9x40 is pretty much my standard. I don't stray outside of that in large unless on my smoothbore 12 g.
  21. I may consider used, although I find most used options have wood stocks, and I'm simply not a fan of wood stocks unless they are the laminate kind. I prefer synthetic either way new or used. Thanks for the offer. I may take you up on that if I don't find something suitable in the near term.
  22. Think he meant chucks. Although, he is an old man, and we know how they can be pervs.
  23. Haven't bought into the barrel swapping idea yet. I'm sure it's nice, but just haven't gravitated toward it. Believe it or not, the most expensive gun I have ever bought was about $420...my Vortek UL.
  24. No, not a TC owner. I'm not that high-class.
