My first ML was a Wolf...it's been through hell and back, scratches etc. It has the older style breech plug. I shot 777 pellets through it but highly prefer BH209 now. I had a box of 777 left and actually set it up with a light load of only one 50 gr pellet and a harvester combo. I killed a nice doe with it last year and let my FIL use it to see if he liked ML enough to buy one, which he did. Unfortunately, in my flood, my 777 pellets were soaked (BH209 stockpile made it A-OK!). So, rather than buy 777 pellets, I'd love to convert to BH209, but I understand the older breech plugs don't take well to it. I know online I read there are places to buy modified ones, but I can't for the life of me figure out where that was. At this point, if I can't shoot BH209, I may consider giving it away to a youth or something. I do like taking it with me from time to time despite it merely being a back-up ML now. Anyone know where they sell the modified BP?

Love to resurface this. Looking at picking up a bottom barrel .243 for deer in Wayne Co. Been eyeing the Axis line as well as maybe the Ruger American line. Would love to try a .257 but the ammo cost is so enticing for .243 and the ability to easily double for k-9s should I get the fever. Not so much interested in the caliber discussion as I am in feedback of low-end rifles outside of the 770 which I won't buy.

I've only ever heard the unethical part about bowhunting once and it was a wealthy guy who owned land up north. Fantastic place...

When do folks put their cameras in

No doubt...wNY is a different place for sure. Lots of credit to those who can score regulalry out your way. Itd be a learning curve for me for sure. -

Never. Had a few stolen over the years. -
Heartland is solid. It was much better however with jeff simpson leading the way. The film work was his touch and its changed the filming technique for nearly any show now. Even dream season mimics it. MW is solid too. Some of the things you see and hear them walk about though simply do not apply to most common people. Bills farm is in arguably one of the best counties of anh state in the country. He worked hard for it so I commend him but he's afforded tactics that don't apply to us from time to time Keefer brothers are good. I enjoy their show more each time. I hope they continue.

Not a ton of public land in Monroe County. I believe there is some, but it's not big and/or publicized too much. It is hit hard though. Best bet would be a trek to Letchworth or on the east side of the city, there are some spots in Wayne Co.

Just got a text from the wife... "Opening day is two months from today right?!" LOL. As if I would forget.

Buck 2 is the lead buck in the 4th photo. Same trash at the base. Bucks 1 and 3 have me most interested...Buck 1 was relatively early on in July. Buck 3 has some palmation going on in the right main beam, and he's likely a 3.5. Trailing buck in the last photo seems tight but with mass. Growth is so far behind last year it is crazy.

I have had nothing but bad luck with UA. Never had them do what they advertise...the cold weather gear has been the worst, by far. I think X-Scent is now going by X-System owned by Onyx Outdoors (Arctic Shield).

Ontario would be my best guess. Pretty uniform. Thanks for the link.

Never really had a property with pear trees. Found two loaded ones on my lease I never knew about until this year. I know deer will go after the pears, but what is their use like? Typical time they drop? I assume the variety is a factor. Wish I could tell, but these are super old pear trees and pretty hardy. One has some serious rot in it....to the point I can put my fist into the middle of the tree. Have a cam hung to see what comes of it. They're close to the road, so expecting more night use.

I strictly shoot 100 in case I ever run into an imaginary emergency where I lost my BH and need to run to the store, lol. Like that will ever happen. I have several at home, one or two in a little case in my truck. A couple at a few properties (inside a home/cabin).

Neat pics. Always enjoy the clarity.

Pics of pics on my comp...sorry...was having internet issues when I trie duploading them earlier this week. Nothing earth shattering, but could be worse.

G5 makes a good product; however, I have found broadheads becoming so outrageously priced. People forget that many broadheads of today are sharper than the scalpel used to open you up for surgery by a doctor. Seriously. It's not even close when placed under magnification, most broadheads are several times sharper. The ruse of having super sharp blades that are more sharp the super sharp blades out of the box to add cost to the BH is a bit much. The Montecs are a good choice. I do like the Strikers better, but found the Blackouts by Bass Pro are very similar and cheaper. I have enjoyed Slick Tricks and Grim Reaper as of late and buy them for cheap off AT. Buying them in Feb/Mar in the classifieds there, I can get more than double the # of heads for the price of one pack new. Two years ago, I spent $75 on BH, and I still have more than 10 new ones left. I suggest you look there for deals on the G5 head of your choice...chances are you can find a deal. Speaking of which, I have a Montec in my box of goodies sitting idle. I shot it into foam once. I'll never use it. If someone wants it cheap, send a few bucks and I can get it in the mail. I hate having those one offs lying around...have one Rage head, a couple Gators, Copperheads, etc.

2.5-3.5 possibly depending on where he's from in NY. Bases have some size, but he's going to be a bit light on mass once the velvet sheds. Spread looks tight...so it's going to hurt the score there as will shortish main beams. Don't think he'll have much on deductions, however. 100-110 ballpark.

X-Scent. Typically found on sale or pretty cheap. The midweight is a bit overpriced, but the lightweight green base layer is perfect. I typically layer that starting with mornings in mid-Oct through the end of the season. A thicker mid layer over top doesn't get bulky. Other cheap ones believe it or not are Rocky with IQ Scent at Walmart. Cheap, but pretty durable and in a variety of weights. I think the carbon based ones are pointless (not talking about effectiveness). I'm talking cost over use value as compred to X-Scent/Rocky. I own maybe 5-6 sets of base layers for bow season alone. Amazed how fast you can go through them...esp out of state.

Nothing like a little recon from my office chair...
phade replied to phade's topic in Trail Camera Pictures
Hope so...he's been sighted only about 3-400 yards from the property line. Heck, could be a norm for him, returning post velvet shed as you noted. Don't have long history with him as that parcel just came into play at shed season. Me or Moog will get him...gotta stay positive. -

That guy is a fatty. I'll send you some photos of the 2.5s/3.5s tonight. One may be a 4, but slim chance. The lease has the water in the area...thinking once August hits and we get some dry/hot days in a row I'll start picking them up again. The much less rainy last summer had them coming to water midday like clockwork there. -

Slow going this far into the summer. A handful of 2.5s and a couple 3.5s. No clear 4.5 has shown up and the 3.5s are nothing super special at this point of the growing season. The buck you held the sheds of has been seen 2x and he supposedly pretty big...starting to think he's relocated to a corn field just off the property. First time that field has been corn in 5-6 years. Do have three cams there that haven't been check in nearly 2 months, so who knows. The place I took the buck last year got a late start with cams. Only been a week. Where's yours? I know you have to have a few in your pocket. -

phade replied to eagle rider's topic in Trail Camera Reviews and Info
Poor cam use technique and the cams will easily shift a mature buck pattern. I don't even know how people can try to surmise otherwise. -
Not allergic to it...I can roll in it like a dog in a fire pit or dead animal and come out clean. Annoys some of my hunting partners to say the least because I generally don't pay heed to stand locations with it growing.

Plenty of online details of how the vital zone shrinks with angles. At a certain point height of stand becomes a factor against you.
