  1. NY is so misguided. Instead of season structures and tag allocations to adhere to sound management philosophies, they consider something they've come out and stated isn't necessary from a biological standpoint. I understand desire for trophy bucks, but the other biologically superior regs. will do that and not remove choice, so to speak, as A/R does and always will.
  2. When was the last time you picked up some venison tenderloins from Wegman's? How about the last time you double-lunged a hefty black angus? Not always about being cheap when attempting to provide food on the table.
  3. I still cannot fathom why AR is necessary. If it is not necessary, it should not be a law/regulation.
  4. If the wind changes for the bad - I'm not staying there. Why? Because the stand is set up based on what I know. And, if the wind is blowing into a bed or through a funnel....it's not going to happen. People try all the time to say they've shot deer upwind, with or without scentlock, etc. The problem is they don't understand "wind"....thermals and currents can make scent cones do funny things. Carry milkweed with you and test the wind. The wind could be blowing X direction, but letting it go, you'll see the wind lifts here, settles there, turns here, etc. Chances are that buck shot "upwind" didn't just ignore your stink (face it, we do), it just didn't reach his receptors.
  5. A soil test is much cheaper than seed in most cases. Why people don't do it is beyond me.
  6. Seems like this forum finally has enough age on it that some members who use to post here often, don't. I should state this thread is not about re-hasing reasons/drama why they are no longer here. Shucks, for some it just may be moved away, moved on, or work more, etc. The two I recall that don't post or haven't been on in a while are Bubba and Dave6x6. I know a few butted heads with Bubba, but his MZ knowledge was very useful. Same went for Dave and management perspective. Anyone else no longer posting that used to be a contributor?
  7. Ticked some people off? Sheesh. Nobody gets that fired up here that identifying a mug becomes a priority. Me thinks you just ugly. LOL.
  8. Yes, the video length is programmable. I usually do 15 seconds closer to the season, but this early on, I set it at 11 to save space. I only had an 8gb card on me and didn't want to fill it up.
  9. Basic Features: Black Flash - 60 ft or so 4, 8, 0r 12 AA batteries - long life (great characteristic of Covert cams) Up to three pic burst of programmable HD video plus sound (720 or 1080) Color viewer Several MP options for photos. What I found I liked: I am a big video fan overall because I use cams for hunting purposes. Videos show more information - period. Make it a legit black flash cam with HD and sound? Sure, I'm in. No more bugging out of dodge with a red blob glowing in the woods. Daytime videos are awesome. Nighttime images are Very Good. When it comes to nighttime images - I don't think I've seen a video yet that I would classify as "awesome" in black flash. But, I much prefer this cam's videos over anything I have had thus far, even including my favorite SG550 of old. Sounds is also interesting. It's pretty neat actually. We had a train derailment and one video I post you can hear the fire whistles going off for it. 720p HD is much better than 1080p on this cam because of frame rate. 30fps for 720 and 10 for 1080. Covert is going to tweak that...no doubt, whether it is in a firmware update or in new models. Still, 720 provides what you need. I doubt I'll ever use this cam on photo mode. My 2012 Black 60s are not HD video and I use them in pic mode only as a result (VGA isn't all that great) but also more for scouting and inventory. I am thinking about unloading some for the HD models so I can use video. Now, for the samples:
  10. Reason why it shows out of stock (not backordered) is because its the wrong price - but shipping on that cam from WS is about $12-13 on top of that price. The cam retails for $169. Ebay has them for $149 or so sometimes from some sellers.
  11. Hit post too early...for code black...get one for security purposes or to monitor movements. Remember that you can only use the code black at a one min setting.
  12. Knowing your use and the effort you put into your land...getting a pair of black 60 to use would be worth it. Video over scrapes or trails will be useful to you. I'm looking at my first batch of videos from my 13 black 60 now.
  13. Is that from wing supply? If that's still up there...buy it. They screwed up on their website. I believe that should have been pricing on the regulat mp6.
  14. Basic Features Three res settings...8MP is the highest. Black Flash - range of 40' illumination Up to three pic burst and a video option Time lapse Impression: Cam soaked for two weeks or so. I was impressed with the pic quality. I believe it's actually the same camera (actual camera portion) as the 2012 Black 60 - just with fewer LEDS to fire and packed into the 2012 MP6 body. Daytime pics are great and nighttime pics are what I call "good". The night pics are usable and motion blur is about the same level as the black 60 and on par with the higher-level black flash cams out there. It's black flash and has slightly less illumination than the bigger body Black 60, so that needs to be taken in context. It is also a legit entry level black flash cam. It would be a good "only" cam for someone or even for someone who wants to test out black flash. I have quite a few cams and I have no qualms about it performance wise. It also very small and compact. Trigger speed is always good. Three pics in 1.5 seconds or so. I did make a mistake...I somehow put the cam on high sensitivity. Which, in my experience is a big no-no with Covert cams as they are sensitive compared to most other cams (good thing imo). I also placed it in the worst possible place to put a cam with high sensitivity...reed grass. Guess what happened? 7,600 pictures in two weeks of those stupid things blowing in the wind. Dummy me. The good news - cheap AA batteries ( costing me about $2.00. And...battery meter was still showing full bars after 7,600 pics. Safe to say this cam will last a LONG time on a set of batteries. Sample pics are taken at 5MP, the mid-level setting.
  15. They still have a few hours before the first week is over!
  16. Dang, smaller than I thought it would be. 88,000 is impressive, but it sure ain't Hamburg.
  17. Agreed. I heard angels my first time walking in.
  18. If there are cows around...that impacts things.
  19. Night pics...that's fantastic for a small, entry price point black flash cam. I really can't think of a Moultrie black flash cam that can compete in the same price bracket.
  20. Looks for fence crossing sign along the barbed wire fence border. If deer are funneling through in a few spots and they are good to set up...then do so. If they are, but the set locations stink. Block the path and wire strands of the fencing together close by at a spot where you can set up smartly. They'll cross at the new spot accordingly. This is assuming nothing needs to stay in that fence, lol.
  21. Meant you as in "general" as hunters should know that it is illegal to use salt/bait year-round as it stands now.
