Set some of the cams at creek crossings. Good spot to inventory with no baiting/licks allowed here.

2013 Prep work? What are you doing to prep for the 2013 Hunting Season?
phade replied to burmjohn's topic in Deer Hunting
No. There's a technicality case downstate about feeding, but really, it's against the law. You should know this. -
Gag. The smell had to make you sick. Don't beat yourself up on it. It happens.

Its not going to be anywhere near as expansive as the Hamburg locations. Cabela's built Hamburg as their flagship east coast store and at the height of the destination store craze. They've since re-scaled their stores down quite a bit...this one is only going to be about 50% of the sq. ft. of the Hamburg store. Don't let that fool you, it'll still be big. The more I think about it, the less I think Batavia couldn't meet the demands. Batavia would have jumped at it...especially with their efforts to bring in the yogurt factory, and such. The big deal, at least reading between the lines for the Buffalo spot was pulling from Canada, too.

Cabela's average employee knowledge base is heads above Gander and BPS. Not even close, too. Sure there are duds everywhere, but in large, not even close. Gander is a former shell of itself 5-10 years ago.

What are you doing with mineral rocks? -
BTW, this looks like a great hunting spot.

I know this stinks with the weather and bugs, but I'd personally dive into the woods now or as soon as possible. Sure it is thick, but you can decipher trails, maybe find a bed or two, and pick out specific stand trees to either set up now or when you hunt. Don't rely on just game cams to do the work here. Set the cams in areas of high traffic to get an inventory of bucks #s and quality. The ravine will need inspection. Does the ravine run n/s or e/w? What is the predominant wind direction?

Same here...powerbelts, blah!
-
I actaully prefer a poor acron crop. Not a "wiped out" one, but a poor one. It makes it easier for hunting because the producing trees are fewer and farther between. Set up appropriately on those few trees rather than an expansive acorn flat where deer may wander.

Second photo...move that stand east until you square it into that funnel. Edge stands are OK sometimes, but get in the funnel in that scenario.
-
Dang...read that Cabelas was looking to put a store in Batavia area for two years with no luck, so they opted for Buffalo...lame, lol!
-
Bass Pro has nothing on Cabelas. I've been to several of each, and hands down I like Bass Pro less and less. Especially Auburn's store. Cabelas isn't the savior, but it's about as good as it gets for a big box store/destination store.

No freaking thank you.

YES! Worth it a second post.

I think they cleared out the records some years ago. I believe it was from poor documentation.

Houston has high property taxes on that home though. I believe that's one of the major issues there - I watch House Hunters with the wife and the taxes were complained about a bunch in certain areas of Houston.

Same here...60x.

Eastern sports & outdoor show taken over by the NRA
phade replied to oblivitar's topic in General Chit Chat
Sounds promising. My only concern is that the show moves more toward a gun show rather than an actual hunting/outdoors show. If they can keep that balance, then they are the right people for the job. -
Why is it you don't want to keep the LD?
-
I actually believe the WB is more difficult to tune than say a LD. WB get bad wraps for a variety of reasons and potential reasons. They certainly are a serviceable rest, but to me, it's a starter rest for someone setup by a pro shop that knows what it is doing. People get worried about them freezing, losing bristles, shedding vanes, and tuning issues. The tuning issue is the legit complaint IMO. If set up correctly, they are good to go, but many people run into problems. With rests like the LD, it's elementary.

Shockwaves are rebadged SSTs I believe. I think Hornady makes them on contract for TC.

Agreed on longevity...if you get 3-4 years on low-end game cams...you should be VERY happy. I also believe leaving cams out 365 actually promotes longer product life.
