8h here too. Confiming same info. Saw a 1.5 bumping does opening day. Slowdown since. Lots of scrapes. Watched a 2.5 8 work a bedding area. No does in it this am.

Yes....ever been to a farm? Does can be brought into heat.

At 3:30 today...I'm off until November 15. For gun...I don't get Black Friday off so I take that day off to give me a 4 fay weekend (of sorts) to hunt. Outside of that day, I don't take a day off for regular gun season. Then off Dec. 16-20 for mz.

Good deal on Rem. Premier CopperSolid sabot slugs
phade replied to Groundpatrol's topic in Deals, Coupons and Specials
The copper solids are also pretty light weight-wise for the gauge...5/8 for 20 gauge. Stil...I picked some up this year to tinker with in one of my guns since they were so cheap after the rebate. Only 4 per household though for the rebate. -
Arizona Coues Whitetail 2011 and some camp visitors
phade replied to nyazhunter's topic in Out of New York Hunting
That's a nice Coues...surely on my bucket list. Congrats! -
278 is big indeed. It does take a lot to get there. I've never seen one that big here in wNY.

I would probably find a treestand you can tolerate or at least a blind (for comfort...blanket/heat etc.). Even a low treestand at 7-8 ft that time of year will allow you a larger field of vision. Hunt that for a couple hours in the a.m. and p.m. and in between, get down and still hunt a bit during the mid-afternoon...most likely the state ground will be void of all but a select few who tough it out all day. I don't often hunt all day during that time of year because I'm usually experiencing burnout by then. If we do, it usually involves a midday meet with the hunting partner and planning a few two man drives (one still hunting to the other) of small sections of ground. Amazing what getting up and walking for a bit will do to warm you up and help you stay out there longer.

Is it the cables or the stand itself?

Teenage Bergen bow hunter takes down 17-point buck
phade replied to burmjohn's topic in Deer Hunting
Interesting. The parents were very proud of this kid (rightfully so if done legal)...you'd think they would know if it were taken while trespassing? -
As the saying goes...there's no replacement for displacement. The same goes for seat time at this point of the year. All day sits are in order when possible that weekend. This weeked looks to be one of the better halloween weekends in a long time...I'm curious to see how much activity ramps up.

I think the Lightfields key to the barrel itself...which is what I assume allows them to be accurate out of the smoothbore...no bouncing around in the barrel like others do.

No problem...she's real nice and will help with any questions you have. I usually stick with Intruder for buck urine and the doe in heat...the buck with tarsal is another good option for decoying. A combo drag rag works well...a single wick with doe in heat and about a foot or so behind it I tie on another with the intruder...gives the impression of a receptive doe being pursued by a breeding party of bucks. With all things, moderation is key, so remember that . Don't overuse it in the same area. I always keep them in the fridge or cooler...the old lady is used to it....double ziplock bags.

Tough spot...that's for sure. Obviously what's happening is not right. I'd follow up the call to check in and say the reason you asked was two-fold... crossing permission and because you've seen hunters on there before so you thought there might be a reasonable chance you could get permission. Know much about the other hunters? That's another facet to the dilema as well. Soemtimes people can be real low-lifes...and these people already sound like they're not all that honest if they are indeed trespassing. ***Edit...that map looks like the neighbor land is locked outside of the small right of way. I'm betting these hunters must be neighboring landowners or users of neighboring land. I doubt someone would think of using that land (trespassing) without some boot on the ground experience of that area (bordering/within eye sight). Chances of it being random trespassers without access to the neighboring lands is probably small...my guess is they've used the neighboring land for a long while and over time understood that the owners are absent and non-hunters.

You'd be surprised at how many people she sends weekly orders to between the last week of October and the end of November. I usually do two orders with a third if I head to Ohio.

Lightfield sabots actually say you can shoot them in a smoothbore on the box itself...they note best results with an improved cylinder in the smoothbore. I've shot quite a few deer with a Mossberg 500 smoothbore and the lightfield sabots using an improved cylinder. First one I ever shot was about 90 yards and DRT. Probably not the best pairing for most situation, but the lightfields can work if need be. I no longer use them due to cost and finding the cheap (but dirty as heck) Federal Truball slugs shoot great groups out to 80 + yards.

Yeah, a legit marketer for a legit app. It's a classic forum post to drive traffic, however, they used the site to make a sale (at least one...so it worked). That's not a big deal to me...just moreso the methodlogy used. Note the sly questions inserted to generate conversation? Hunting this weekend? The conversation keeps the link and thread up top and generates more views. The "my friend told me about" line is very traditional across the product boards...ranging from performance enhancers (bow-chicka-wow), debt reduction plans, money schemes, and even apps. I know this stuff becauseI sometimes have to dabble in it...for a Fortune ranked company no less. The reason I think some may feel it is legit is that it's Huntlogix, LLC., which is a NY company (Syracuse I think). Oh the coincidence . What are the odds of the poster somehow being related to the company? My magic 8 ball says that chances are all but certain. If I'm not mistaken, one of the founders was a big proponent of the AR campaign in the Finger Lakes several years ago.The one that brought in the biologist from down south and held meetings around the area.

Is it just me, or was that a great internet marketing post? Not a single specific mention to being a NY site...it's general enough that I bet you find the same post in various forums by the marketer. Only one post to date, too.

I think you are missing the point, entirely. NWS is local, available, and I'm readily resupplied. A few days is all I need for a particular order. And, best part, it's not much more than the mass merch store offerings. I spend about $35-$40 a season on it and get three orders shipped in that time.

Northern Whitetail Scents...mines being bottled in the morning. I'd say that's fresh enough for me. She's even going to make a gel out of the Intruder since I decoy a bit and it's a little easier to use then. My old lady is used to seeing that stuff in the fridge for a few days each season
-
I rarely see them (3x in 10 years) but lost a doe to them last season after letting her lay overnight (unsure of shot result at time).
-
G-Man...that's quality right there. Hopefully you and your hunting party can get one or two on the ground this season.

This thread is a perfect example of why hunters have the problems we do. A 16 yr. old kid holding out on his first buck? He's already stated that the buck is his target. That statement right there should have halted any input to let it walk. At 16, the goal should be bloodshed within legal limits. You are honing your skills on the process of hunting, shooting, and the whole act. It's the "practice makes perfect" situation. Once you get comfortable with it, then the next stage begins. OP - is the area large tract woods? flat? hilly? ag land? This type of info can help figure out potential patterns and sets. I think he's a fine trophy for you.
-
This weekend should be fantastic. The quick shower on Saturday might be enough to make the woods quiet for a stealthy entry/exit for a prime stand.
-
This coming weekend is looking pretty nice outside of the chance of rain. First week of Nov. looks a little warm though.

I'm in northern Livingston. Plenty of big deer in the area...access is key and understandably hard to come by. A 150" 8 is pretty rare anywhere, let alone NY. Saw the first shooter of the year while on stand yesterday, but that was in Monroe County...practically on the border with Livingston.
