  1. I don't sit as long as I used to since my back injury/surgery. I can usually force 2-3 all day sits over the course of the year. I used to do about 6-7 during bow and opening weekend of gun. The back-to-back all days are where it gets hard for my back...mentally I don't have an issue with it. Now..I'm usually out at 10-11 and in about 2.5-3 hours before dark.
  2. The original pics are a bit far away so it is a little hard to be comfortable with a definitive answer. It is not possum. I suppose it could be from two boar coons fighting, and their hair can be coarse in some spots, but that'd be a ton of guard hair for them to lose and the undercoat color is a bit off (although there is a good amount of variation in individuals). I still say deer for now unless we can get closer pics.
  3. I've see it a few times before. Usually a predator (coyote most likely) of some sort gnoshing on a leg that's been separated from the body. It probably carried it into the area and then ran off with it. My guess is a front leg based on the color...it's got some dark brisket-like hair and also some lower chest/underbelly.
  4. I'd love a coating of snow to go along with the temps for Friday/Saturday.
  5. Accuracy-wise, they're probably the best stock slug shooters out there right now. I think the H&R offers a couple models and variations on stock. I don't think I'd go with the lighter barrel model H&R. I'd only opt for the bull barrel. 20 gauge would probably serve better for accuracy. Some people online reported issues with 20 gauge models a few years back but I think that there's been no qualms in recent times.
  6. This thread is full of Ehhhlll Ohhhh Ehllll. I bet he's caught some rash in another venue (in person, hearsay, another forum, etc.) and he blew his load. Killing big deer sometimes is a curse...the smart ones really keep it under wraps.
  7. That's world class...the bases...wow. I'd love to see more pics of it.
  8. I'll admit that I've seen better blood trails with rifled slugs on occassion as compared to sabots. On most instances with poor blood with sabot shots passed clean double lungs at relatively close range or 100 yds and past. The copper solids out of a 20 guage have been less than stellar. Lightfields almost always left good trails. I've shot a couple deer with the SSTs but they were all bang flops since I was close to property lines. I shot a doe at 15 yards with a Truball on Sunday...the hole was impressive. I prefer bang flops but the 100 yard trail was solid.
  9. I'm pretty sure the Canyon is new so reviews might be a little limited. Because of that, I'd probably go with a proven model. For an entry-level - but COMPLETELY CAPABLE - MZ...there's no better than the CVA Wolf. Load that thing up with a two pellets and a quality choice on the business end (Harvester Scorpions are cheap and effective or the Hornady XTPs) and you'll be impressed. Right now, my FIL is using my Wolf with a single 777 pellet and a 300 gr. Scorpion and his groups are impressive out to 75 yds. Two pellets and you'll be sending them a long way with good accuracy. It's a good, cheap, and effective deer killer. Perfect for most NY deer woods with its shorter barrel. I own a CVA and a Traditions (Wolf and Vortek UL)....I have ZERO problems killing deer with either. In fact, I hunted with the Wolf Sunday night.
  10. Good wrap up to this 132. The other thing that caught my eye in the article was one of the guys is using the houses to sponsor some mz hunts for vets that are injured.
  11. You are family - so I hope you would have the first "in." so to speak. Call the family member up (if it is not him baiting). Ask to meet you out for a beer and some wings at the local joint (not a rowdy bar...but a place you can at least chat without yelling). Sit him down, explain the situation, and let him know that someone is taking advantage of him by getting permission and then breaking the law on his ground. Tell him that you've hunted the ground ethically for years and hate to see something like this happen to him. Offer to post the ground if it is not, and become the "land manager" for hunting purposes...meaning you dole out permission (with coordination with your cousin). Also ask that the baiting hunter be kicked off the ground because you fear being ticketed for hunting over bait when you have nothing to do with it. He may accept none, some, or all of your suggestions. At least you'll have reached a resolution as to your hunting situation. The baiting hunter should be cited...but I'd at least talk to your cousin first.
  12. As mentioned these are growing in use up here and are popular in the south. I've seen the benefit of these first hand between the young and old. Most people I know who do have these (and don't have 3k into them or contract the building of them) use them in what I bet most people would agree is ethical. It's often used for kids, elderly, as the "lunch" spot, or as a respite from the elements on an as needed basis. Most of the time up here, I see people use them in late season over a brassica plot or something similar. I don't see too many people bowhunting from them. I've sat in all day soakers (where the rain gear gets compromised) and wished I had something like this just to DRY off for lunch. When hunting on a place that has one of these, it's a relief. I'm not so hot on the tv, cooking stoves, etc. but that's a personal decision imo.
  13. I take most people go with outfitters when they draw for moose in NH, VT, or ME? I'm curious if there's a fair amount of DIY success.
  14. I lost 105 lbs. of dead weight once. Sure, it cost me $17k and I had to sign divorce papers...but it was the best diet I ever went on! Here's to hoping you drop it! Tough time of year with all the food, etc. but it can surely be done!
  15. I'm to the point I'm told to sit down, handed pen and paper, the catalogs, the laptop, and told to write the list down or suffer the consequences (clothes, cheap tools I'll never use, etc.). Heh...let's just say there's nothing but hunting stuff, a useful tool or two, and a Beers of the World gift card. I'm proud because I wrapped up shopping for the woman in one day on Black Friday. Never done that before. The holidays will be light this year because we are going to Europe with the family in July and we have a kid graduating from high school next June (I'm 30...yes...do the math.) and college is on the horizon. Then there's paying for the last couple classes of my M.S. degree. So, if I get even a couple things on the list...I'll be more than elated. If not...I'm not making a list next year
  16. Yeah, the TC box is labeled Z5 Omega laminate thumbhole...right on the factory tags. We literally just opened the plastic to the manual this past weekend. The guns not even been touched except for the two of us to look at. I figured the combo wasn't common...expecially when paired with a blued barrel. This has to be a 2009 or older model because he won it in 2009 sometime.
  17. LOL...Carol is awesome. I had her taxi my buck last year. Great communication, about as cool of a lady as you'll meet in the hunting world. She films on occassion for Drury and her bf runs an outfitter service in IL I think. My younger hunting buddy was even more impressed with Carol's daughter...who also hunts I think. It took him a few minutes to wipe the drool away before he could speak. All meant in the kindest compliment, of course. Carols work is pha-nom-i-nal! Top notch. I think she has one on display in the Henrietta Gander by the classroom.

  19. Looks like a nice place. I'd seriously be interested in this place now if I didn't have a family medical situation dictating the direction of my discretionary funds.
  20. No its not aftermarket. It cam right from tc. You can google pics of the stock. Most of the time the stoxk is paired with the ss barrel. This one is the blued barrel. Its bnib.
  21. Yep..that app was used to shoot a buck by a friend of mine. He got bored mid morning and started messing with it. Within 30 seconds he had an arrow in a buck. Go figure.
  22. go on archerytalk.com forums and search there. Several people sell it for great prices via pm. Slippy field is one...I forget the other two...boarman and thirdy pointer maybe.
  23. Buck of a lifetime. It is what dreams are made of. Congrats to your uncle. It is going to rank up there this year for sure.
  24. Buddy shot a doe tonight about 150 yds from me. Only deer up and moving.
