  1. Its with a heavy heart i post this pic...my land neighbor just sent it to me. He just said it was shot on our road, dont know where...
  2. My father is out pheasant hunting with my son currently, ill ask when he gets back. He has gone 3 times and was very happy with his outfitter.
  3. Yes ill most likely be taking Dec 1st off of work along with my buddy. Tags go on sale 10am mt time. I believe there are around 750 elk tags available for the unit i want. Then i have to try and get a deer tag for that area also.
  4. Im trying to read as much as possible but i cant find that much info, people are very tight lipped about good areas which i totally understand.
  5. What zone are you looking to get into? My plan is salmon hopefully.
  6. The plan is to have 2-3 days of scouting before the rifle opener.
  7. Zeiss Conquest V4 4-16×44 mounted in Warne mountain tech rings, which are sitting on nightforce 20moa bases. I have 10 boxes of nosler 165gr accubond coming that i got off of gunbroker for a really good price actually. Averaged $39 a box. As soon as that gets here im going to break in the barrel with some other 308 i have laying around and zero it with the nosler.
  8. Ill say being able to walk out my back door and be able to shoot deer is a wonderful thing. Im definitely not in the boonies, only thing i miss from parents deer camp is the night before opening morning of gun just relaxing with family. Now everyone just shows up opening morning.
  9. He showed up again at the back of our property this time.
  10. First piece of the puzzle arrived. Christensen arms mesa in .308. I have a Zeiss Conquest V4 4-16×44 basic retical with adjustable elevation turret. Will probably sit in Warne moutain tech rings.
  11. Sooooo pumped to write this. Planning a 2022 diy Idaho elk/muley hunt. I have a buddy that is out there currently and took a nice mule deer and did some scouting for next year. We will be in the stanley area hopefully. There are 3 zones we will hopefully get 1 of them. Cant wait for Dec 1st, thats when the draw happens. Ill be carrying a Christensen arms mesa in .308, i pick that up tomorrow . Time to do alot of E scouting and to get in the best shape of my life lol. Alot of hunting from 7000ft to 8500ft most likely. Ill hopefully be updating this post here and there.
  12. Went out last night with my son for his first night out yote hunting. Nothing at stops 1 and 2. 3rd set i was asked to come to because the women watched a yote take one of her chickens a few nights earlier. Setup behind thier house and started calling. After the first call ended we had a pair sound off to our right and a group out infront. To say my son was pumped is a understatement. I had the dogs going for probably 10mins before the 1st one showed. The setup was perfect and the yote was coming straight in to us. Just before my son was ready to shoot i told him to hold off, 2 more yotes entered the field and were following the same path as the first. Thats when it got messy, the 1st yote decided it had stayed long enogh and wanted to leave, i got on one and my son said he was following the other. I shot 1st and the 2 yotes take off, for the 2nd time this seaon i had to swap mags, 1st shot of the 2nd mag dropped a yote. As a side note i had just resighted in my rifle with new thermal on it. The last hunt took 10 shots and dropped 1, it ended up 6" low...not sure why but resighted in and was good. After 6 shots to get this dog maybe not good? My son shot twice both misses but loved the action. So sometime this week ill be punching paper again with the thermal. Yote ended up being a mangy pup the homeowner has seen around her home.
  13. This buck looks like he has been eating well lol. Hope my son or I gets a crack at him!
  14. I have a stand 15 yards from this spot. This is year 3 making a scrape here. Towards the end of october i may throw a dripper up but my own recipe seems to do just fine.
  15. I made this scrape on sept 29th. Used a stick and my very own urine lol. Had alot of doe and this guy on camera soon after.
  16. Well we did 5 sets, started at 10pm and i somehow ended up in bed at 5am Anyhoo, first set was silent but a new field to try out. 2nd set is at a field that has not disappointed in the previous 4 hunts. Called for maybe 7mins and got responses across the street. We decided to move there as the wind was not good if they came from there. Got setup and started calling again, 2 min in i spotted a yote pop out of some corn. He quickly made his way into us, i took my shot when he stopped, staring towards the call. He didnt drop...he ran and bounded out infront of us, i was taking shots as he was going, so was my partner. My gun ran dry and in went the 2nd mag, bang, bang, bag thwack!. Finally we heard the hit and he started spinning. I dont like to fill them with holes but ive also seen them take off multiple times after doin the spins. So 2 last shots in the mag went off and he still was trotting away and then gone...we were standing in shin high crops of some kind, i was 99% sure he dropped and we couldn't see him anymore. After about 20min of searching i found him, 1 hole in his hind leg, took out the femoral... well...thats not good, the night just started and im not sure my scope is on target. We drag that yote back to the truck and go to stop #3, which ends up being silent. Stop 4 is close to home and has produced before. Called for 25 min with no takers, we pack up and start ti walk out and then they speak up lol. So we decide to set back up and give it a try. Called 1 in, unfortunately he used a hedgerow to get past us and popped out directly behind us. No shot as the road was behind him. Last stop never disappoints, good setup and always atleast get talked back too. Unfortunately thats all we got, had a group going but they stayed on the other side of the road, and wind was bad to try and move on them. So that was it, 1 yote and a long night but happy to be back out under the moon.
  17. First time going out tomorrow with a buddy for the first small tournament of the year. Will post updates and pics here throughout the year.
  18. I just picked up a super hogster for my first thermal scope. Very happy so far, will be out tomorrow for the first hunt with it. I may try and get my hands on a thermion xp50 if i fall in love with the thermal. Best of luck with the predators this year.
  19. Savage chambered in 7mm-08. It was a Christmas present from grandpa last year.
  20. My son has been begging to go out for this early antlerless season. He is 12 yrs old and unbelievably in to hunting lol. We got up at 5am today and made our way to our "comfy" 2 man stand. Around 645 we had a small buck come by and maybe 15 mins later a group of 4 flat heads were making thier wayin the same direction. The big lead doe knew something was up but at 40 yards she didnt have a chance lol. He made a great shot and she ran maybe 60 yards. To say he was pumped is a understatement. In his words after the shot it felt like he was making the whole tree stand shake lol. So happy to be able to share these times with him and see him truly love being in the woods.
  21. Fun fact of the day... from the sheet they had at the tables, this is the largest 9pt that was submitted last year in ny.
  22. And he is back home after a stop at the nys bbc banquet. Very happy with the mount and i can totally see him chasing the doe before i shot him, something ill never forget.
