  1. For a second I thought you meant to post in the biz/jerkman flirting thread. Here it is:
  2. Noted for next time. Thanks. Noticed the Redwood Restaurant on the drive. I've been working on talking Mrs. Goose into renting a place on Canandaigua Lake for a week during hunting season, but she doesn't want to be stuck without a car all day while I hunt. I said, what's if its a cute, walkable small town with a liquor store? She's thinking about it . . . .
  3. We did, saw the ski runs. I had a feeling we were close to where you hunted and or lived. Can't imagine the traffic that road gets on a skiing weekend.
  4. Day 1 (Monday 1/14) Drove via Victor and Bristol down into PA. Thought of @WNYBuckHunter when driving along Canandaigua Lake. Drove by the grape pies place in Naples. In PA, stopped at Coleman's military surplus store. It was a bit of a bust. Dimly lit warehouse with overpriced military surplus. Did find a wool neck gaiter/tube scarf for $5. Made it to Gettysburg, PA for the night. Never been there before, but it's cool to be in such a historic place. Our hotel had a civil war cannon in the lobby. Had a nice dinner at Ruby Tuesday Day 2 (Tuesday 1/15) Hit the road at 8:00. Listened to the attorney general senate committee testimony all day. When you listen to the news soundbites afterwards, you really see how biased the media can be. Had an awesome lunch at Country Cookin restaurant in Virginia. Mind-bogglingly cheap with a nice soup, salad, sides and dessert bar. Had a not so great dinner at Waffle House in Fayettesville, NC.
  5. So I am on a six week road trip with the Mrs. Taking an 11-day cruise to the Panama canal and them bumming around Florida for about 4 weeks. I'd like to share some of my adventures, I'm just that kind of guy. But rather than clutter up the General Chit Chat forum with random posts, I thought it might be a good idea to post about my trip in this one thread. Hopefully I will post something funny or entertaining at some point.
  6. Pygmy, are you now flirting with Biz? Cheez, something in the water today or what?
  7. Just the one I have at home. It is a nice one, though.
  8. Are @Biz-R-OWorld and @The Jerkman flirting? Not that there's anything wrong with that. Jerkman, you gotta tell us what desk you're on! Just a hint, even.
  9. I've thought about using one of this a little bit, but worry I wouldn't get around to it. I guess I'm a dibble dabbler dillier.
  10. Given how well its mowed, I wouldn't be surprised if there is some deal with a snowmobile club. Although a portion of it seems to overlap a small creek that might have water year round. You mean like a fabric hunting blind on the gas easement at the property lines?
  11. You bring up a good point. For my current land, the neighbors in front asked if they could hunt back there and I said no. I've never gotten to know them. wonder if how things would have been different if I had said yes. For the Pembroke parcel, if/when I go under contract, I will definitely talk to all the neighbors about retrieval rights, if they hunt, etc.
  12. @wooly I'm in awe of your talent. I hope it brings you great joy.
  13. Actually, it is a good price, I believe. I made them a full asking price cash offer. The per acre price is 1/3-1/4 that of other parcels in the area. (Lack of frontage is a reason for that, but doesn't adversely affect huntability.) I don't know, a lot of parcels around there have power lines running through them. Can't see giving up on what appears to be a good hunting property at a good price for that reason. Hope you're not right . . . .
  14. the power lines are owned by National Grid, so I expect to have that issue, unfortunately. The gase easement, which looks like a nicer path, is more problematic, but ultimately no way to keep off tresspassers. I will of course post it.
  15. the one going NW to SE is power lines, land owned by National Grid. The path the comes in from SW to ENE is a gas easement. There is a corn field next door to the E. I would imagine lots of snowmobilers and ATVers. No way to stop them with the way the land is laid out. Hopefully, they just stay on the gas easement or power lines.
  16. Of course. I also want to talk to them about retrieval rights. Actually, there are two small strips of land between me and the thruway (side by side). One is owned by the neighbor to the East. The other appears to be landlocked. I will try to buy that one. Not sure about coming in from the North from the 90, though. Seems dangerous. The topography is a gentle incline from WNW to ESW. Some higher ground near the road, but can't hunt near the house. Thanks, dbHunterNY. topo superimposed on aerial map
  17. Getting this under contract is going to take some patience. The Seller has a lot of issues that need to be addressed. The hedge row on the Eastern border has all the trees on the neighbor's land. I will have to set up a tripod stand or blind to hunt the fields in the middle from the East. Not ideal, but doable. There is one monster tree, like 12' diameter, that is exactly on the Eastern property line. Think it's fair game to put a tree stand on the part of that tree that is on my side of the line?
  18. I found another parcel for sale in Pembroke, just a couple miles West of this one. It's over 100 acres, with the huntable area about 425 yards wide by 1,300 yards deep. I walked it yesterday for over 3 hours. It was mind boggling the number of deer tracks I saw. The wooded parts are mature enough so there isn't a lot of brushy growth blocking your view. The brushy fields parts have some trails and clearing that make them huntable. There is also a nice pinch point/"bridge" by the power lines that seem to get a lot of traffice. A bit swampy on the WNW side of the property, but not sure how wet it will be during hunting season. (I was glad it was 17 degrees out as there was an inch of ice on top of the wet areas that I could somwhat walk on.) It just meets my criterion for a 30 minute drive. Has a dirt driveway with which I can drive up to the power lines if I needed to, as long as the snow is not too deep. Even had a small pond. Not sure if any fish in it, though. I hope to put it under contract and get retrieval rights from the neighbors. If anyone has any thoughts on this new parcel, I'm all ears. Thanks.
  19. I've read this thread, but not sure my question was directly answered, so I will give it a shot with a new post. What about hunting on gas utility easements? I am looking at a property for hunting that has a gas easement cutting though the land. It looks like a large, cleared path with a pvc pipe sticking up at each property boundary it crosses. (At first I thought it was a maintained trail for snowmobilers until I saw the pipes sticking up.) Would it be safe to shoot on this path? I imagine the gas supply pipe is deep enough that the dirt would stop a bullet from penetrating it. Anyone have any practical experience hunting on or near a gas pipeline easement?
  20. I had her famous topless poster in my room in mid 80s. Not quite the Farrah Fawcett of her generation.
  21. And here I thought Biz was just getting girls with his personality . . . . Imagine the response he'd get in PA!
