opinions on this parcel of land for hunting?
goosifer replied to goosifer's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
incomplete data. parcel to west is for sale, parcel to SE I asked if they's sell it, no response. may allow retrieval rights. no clue on neighbors to E or SW. If I were to pursue this, I'd want to procure retrieval rights in advance all the way around the parcel. Hopefully wouldn't have to worry about parcels to the N. I fear It's too small and too narrow. Really only the back part is huntable. I was going to visit it on Thursday as I'll be in the area. I'll keep looking in the meantime. -

good points, thank you all. I was caught off guard by how quickly people commented. I was also looking at a 100+ acre lease in Chautauqua county, but I'd want to rent or buy a cabin nearby. Wife was not too happy with that idea . . . . -
I am looking for new hunting land. I currently have a 50 minute commute to where I hunt, and it gets old after awhile. Trying to figure out a way to have hunting land within 30 minutes of where I live in WNY. One parcel that could work is this 35 acre parcel in East Pembroke, just East of Cleveland Rd. See pic below. It has a shallow man-made pond in the back. Anyone have any comments on this general location as far as deer hunting goes, and or specific comments on this parcel from what you can see on the aerial? The link to google maps is here Thanks for your input.

Is that meant to be figuratively or literally?

I made pate with the liver from my doe. After letting the final product rest in the fridge for a day or two, I really liked it. Will definitely do it again, maybe more brandy, cream and butter for a creamier texture, and try fresh herbs instead of dried. It takes a lot for the other flavors to show through.

So, to paraphrase, it twice spread its legs and bent over, at which time you couldn't take it anymore and nailed it. It wiggled for 4 seconds and then went still. You didn't reload. You then called your wife with the good news. OK, maybe it's just me . . . . Congrats on a great buck!- 10374 replies

Now I'm thinking I shouldn't have cleaned my barrel so we'll after sighting in. We'll see....
-
That's strange. I had a similar experience zeroing in my scope. Any idea why the first shot is so far off relative to the second and third shot? Heats up the barrel? At the range on Monday, after a handfull of shots, I was close to dialed in at 50 yards (just 1/2"-3/4" low), and then the shots starting going low by about 3-4". I adjusted a few clicks up and called it a day. I'm comfortable that I'm within an inch or so of true aim. There will be lot's of other factors that come into play in the field at this point.

Convenient that you just happened to have a blow up doll handy . . . .

Happy Birthday, Gencountyzeek. Going for ribs at Alex's Place?

buffalojay83, try drinking some tonic water to get some quinine in you, or try this product

Get that figured out, Pygmy. If/when the docs clear you to hunt, make sure to do so with a hunting buddy. Don't make us get you a life alert to wear while hunting!

So how many different ways are there to field dress a deer?
goosifer replied to goosifer's topic in Deer Hunting
Wow, for a second I thought it was a reg I wasn't following properly. Sounds like it only applies if the head is not attached to the carcass. Maybe other states always require it to be intact? source: https://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/8305.html -

So the junk stays attached to the carcass? I was taught to cut it off and throw it into the woods for good luck. -
@Marti375 A couple potential options: Ask your grocery store with a real butcher department to save the pork "trimmings" for you, and then render it yourself or find a local farm that sell whole or half pigs and ask them if you could buy fat/leaf fat from them. Sometimes when people buy a half pig they don't get the all the parts, if you know what I mean. Last time we bought a pig, I got the fat, offal and the head. Lost the head in an unfortunate freezer incident where the door wasn't fully closed. I was so looking forward to roasting the pig head.

I am so sorry for your loss. You are blessed that he was able to pass at home peacefully with you and the rest of his pack at his side.

Very sorry for your loss, mowin. You were fortunate to have such a good dog. I hope having the other two dogs will lessen the pain for you.
