  1. Oh my god, I just let a nice buck walk. 10 yards out. I have until next Monday off, for all full day sits, took a gamble. He came walking through like king kong, great experience

    3A Hunters

    Western 3K, good luck.
  3. Im in my tower in 3K, 40 degrees, zero shots heard so far. Decided on my old Marlin 30-30 that my dad gave me. I like the older rifles, makes it feel like rifle season with the rifles that have patina from being used in the woods. Good luck
  4. My crossbow deer-tenderloin, never frozen with a little cow rub, in cast iron. Breaded cauliflower with General Tso’s wing sauce for dipping the cauliflower in.
  5. Deer tacos! Finally. BIG thank you to @turkeyfeathers for always thinking about Jenn, and I with food ideas like this for us to try. Great stuff, it was odd to have spices mailed to me, and not mailed out! Haha
  6. Yes, it was perfectly fine, i had no hesitation about it prior to unwrapping it, was just answering Biz really
  7. I have 3 cameras setup in a a small cluster out in the woods between my house, and road. @G-Man told me about this camera trick, well I call it a camera trick, where in one spot you place a camera facing a certain direction, and then place another camera pointing say 90 degrees in the other direction of choice. It seems to work sometimes for me, but anyways I set 3 cameras up in a similar fashion. I made a mock scrape out front now, and this cow showed up within like 8 hrs. Really cool to set up a mock scrape, and get some of the largest bucks IN it, and get caught on camera. I know I am extremely late to the mock scrape idea, but STUPID me, lol. This buck only has a right side brow like my crossbow buck. A lot of deer up here seem to have poor brows, but the right sides are typically taller. Just chit chatting/sharing, I enjoy trail cams a lot. I need to set up next year in an spot that actually has a hardwood licking branch overhead. I have mostly pines here, and my original mock scrape by my tower, I set under a small pine sapling, I figured it was worth a try. The bucks are hitting that scrape out back like crazy, but only a few put their heads up to sniff the branch. I know some will put a glove on, and zip tie a branch up, but once the leaves dry up, and fall off that clipped branch, is it still effective? I know they are leaving scent on it, so i guess their scent would be on the leafless branch.
  8. That’s a real nice deer Biz, that 10-2pm scenario. I hope you get an opportunity at one of them.
  9. You always get deer, get out there, at least pull a window screen, you will want venny cubed sammiches
  10. Oh cool, I knew people collected cast, and there are some sure freaks out there over them, but did not realize this pan was in that desired category. I like using it, pretty cool for me to use it, and cook meat I harvested. Thanks for informing me.
  11. Probably my tower, haven’t been in it since Sunday, haven’t been in the woods there since. I am off next week, so full days sits all week minus Thanksgiving, but will sit till noon id imagine. Might sneak into my 3M spot next week, or definitely the following depending on movement at home. I have not been into my 3M spot since last December, and no one is allowed in there, hoping to go in beast-mode style. We’ll see what happens, but that area I do know how the bucks travel, and times that are typically active, see if that continues this year, from years past.
  12. Venison burger from last weeks buck, cooked on the 100 yr old great grandparents cast iron.
  13. Thank you! Much appreciated, i feel extremely grateful for that deer.
  14. 30/30 Might take my Savage 25/06 on state land in a certain long range clear cut. some days .44 Dan Wesson revolver Mission MXB 400 crossbow at my 3M spot I switch up a lot in regular season, depending on spot, and my mood.
  15. Honestly, you wouldn’t know. I bet its 4 yrs old, at minimum 3, that I am positive of. It was in tightly wrapped freezer paper direct from the processor, zero freezer burn, but the very outside was starting to slightly turn gray. I used course sea salt, fresh coarse black pepper, and granulated garlic. Medium-ish cooked, very good. No way I could have wasted the meat. Jenn loved it too.
  16. A few year old backstrap I had from a family friend, who moved south, and didn’t want to haul the venison!
  17. 3M & 3K guys, just drove 40 miles, saw a couple dead bucks, one on 42, one on 17 by Wolf Lake. Seen a few young bucks in random spots I don’t typically see deer at all. All from this weekend... Good luck guys n gals.
  18. Thank you, very happy for him. Yes sir! We are both excited, he was in the woods for 40 mins, 40 yard shot. Crazy for us to both get deer in the same year! Last time that happened was 2014. This was my dad’s first crossbow deer. First deer he has ever shot at also with a crossbow. He is a meat hunter, and is extremely thankful for this deer. Extremely. I have been trying to get my dad to pay attention to his clothing, and how he walks in/out of where he hunts. I told him to wash him coveralls in either a no scent soap, or straight hot water, and store outside of possible, or in a non-scented plastic bag. He was like why? But I told him I have done this lately, and I try to walk extremely quietly as well. We were always the type to just go hunting....pure luck, and frankly for obvious reasons we only get lucky, once every 5 yrs to be honest, give or take. He hunted this spot 3x this crossbow season, and saw a nice buck but no shot opportunity, he was a changed man, found his interest back in the sport he got me into. Went out his second sit, and does instantly picked him out. Third sit I cannot remember details of. This 4th sit he texted me and said, I am leaving my eyeglasses home this hunt, I think the deer see reflections/glare off of them. I said do it, this is how we have to start thinking, so we can get deer more often. He did, and 40 minutes into the hunt his buck came out. Dad said he(dad) was scanning left to right for movement, and saw this buck like dead center of him(dad), and he was like how did I not see him, where did he come from?!?(no glasses lol). So my dad picks up crossbow, Get the buck in scope, and realizes oh $&@t the safety is still in! My dad clicks the safety off, and it went CLICK, loud safety that the buck heard it, looked in his direction, and took a few steps back. Buck is now behind branches that fell, so no shot opportunity, well my dad was in good cover, which was again something he is starting to pay attention too, and the buck relaxes, and takes the few steps forward, to where he was before, and whack! He gets him right behind should just a pinch high. Deer dropped at roughly 40-50 yards from shot. Dad used a Sniper 370, if anyone recalls the thread I started a few years back. I have nice photos of him with the deer, but not sure if he would prefer them to not be shared. I was up in my stand, hoping for bear, or yote, or just to see rut action, but saw nothing. He texted me “is hot one”...i’m like ummm OH! Text back “you shot one??” He called me, told me what happened, I climbed down, and drove the 45 mins to help him drag, and hang, or whatever else. Great day.
  19. My dad just got his first crossbow deer!!!!!! Zooming down to 3M to help drag n hang. #FromTheGROUND
  20. I have two diaphragm calls at the house, for bobcat, and some distress one. The first and last time i used it, the nutjob came out walking the woods, yelling out asking if the noise is a “kid, or injured animal”. I just lay low now, although i think i was wayyyy too loud with the calls because she lives about 1500 ft away lol
