  1. Probably a good choice with the Dukes from what I have read. I have a dozen of the Freedom Brand II's and have not had much luck with them. They are the pull type trigger and I think the push/pull trigger would be more effective. I was goin to try some Z-Trap dog proofs because they are the push pull type but these days they are hard to come by. Hope the Dukes work better than the freedom brand. Hope you got at least one of these...They make setting them a whole lot easier. https://fntpost.com/product/dog-proof-trap-setter
  2. My opinion.....Save your money. Used it with a trail cam on it and they walk right around it. Used it on my boots with no effect. Once I rubbed it on a tree close to my stand and a buck walking towards me later in the day walked up to the tree, got a whiff and couldn't get out of there fast enough. Works for some but I have never had much luck with it.
  3. SIREN, Wis. — A 12-year-old boy shot and killed a wounded black bear as it was mauling his father near their hunting cabin in the thick western Wisconsin woods. Ryan Beierman, 43, told the Minnesota Star Tribune that he was pinned beneath the 200-pound bruin on Sept. 6 when his son, Owen, fired a shot from the boy’s hunting rifle. 4. Nothing like creating memories with your kid(s). Especially hunting. Congrats to you and her.
  5. About a week ago our field and the neighboring fields they spread lime on just about every field within a mile. I spoke with the farmer and he said they do it to raise the ph levels. After the first rain the deer and turkey were out like normal. Lo and behold yesterday they came through and sprayed all the fields in attempt to keep the rye grass knocked down. We will have to wait and see what the results will be but from past experience they have always returned. We will see what the trail cams show next week.
  6. After 2 1/2 years the battle is over with them and they have won. We ended up loosing about $51,000. If we didn't accept their last offer we were looking at another two to three years of litigation and thousands of dollars out of our pocket and a good chance of not not gaining a thing. We are still fighting to get some legislation passed that would give policy holders some rights but that has been a uphill battle also. There are bills written to address these issues that have been sitting in the Assembly and the Senate for two years and trying to get hem advanced is like pulling teeth. The politics in this state suck and it is only getting worse.
  7. Two Jefferson County men face thousands of dollars in fines for allegedly poaching deer. The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Division of Law Enforcement says the men are repeat offenders. The DEC arrested 23-year-old Jonathan Lille and 20-year-old Tyler Monica, both of Adams. They’re accused of poaching two deer in the towns of Henderson and Hounsfield on December 30 and 31, 2023. Officials allege that Lille and Monica used artificial lights to shoot the deer from a vehicle at night and during the closed season. They’re charged with misdemeanor counts of: unlawful taking of big game taking big game from a motor vehicle taking big game from a highway taking big game with the aid of artificial light discharge of a firearm over a public highway possessing a loaded firearm in a motor vehicle taking big game during the closed season The DEC says both men have been charged with similar offenses in the past. In 2021, Lille pleaded guilty to three unlawful hunting charges and Monica lost his hunting license until 2023 due to similar charges. In this new case, both men face up to $9,000 in criminal fines and could have their hunting licenses revoked for up to five years. 2 Jefferson County men accused of poaching deer (wwnytv.com)
  8. I do remember reading that. 12.35 lb. largemouth would be fun to catch. It doesn't surprise me it came from Cayuga Lake. There have been some nice fish taken in that lake. Good for him.
  9. In this area the wild cherries are gone and don't last long. As soon as they are ripe the coon hit them and can strip a tree completely in a night or two. Based on what I can see from the picture my vote would be for a Wild Crab apple tree. Also looks like a potential Buck Rub Tree
  10. Not meant to be political or intended to suggest anyone votes a certain way. The intent is to make everyone that votes aware of the fact this November there will be a 2024 NYS Constitutional Amendment which will appear as Proposal 1. These proposals usually appear on the BACK or bottom of the ballot and can be easily missed. You can research the proposal here: https://www.nysenate.gov/newsroom/articles/2024/brad-hoylman-sigal/proposal-1-equal-rights-amendment
  11. Unfortunately Doc I will more than likely be missing my third season. Rebuilding your life from scratch is very tedious and time consuming. It breaks my heart not being able to hunt but one has to set their priorities.
  12. First time to the Syracuse show and I must say it was better than the last two I have attended in Hamburg. Good turnout and lots of vendors A lot of them are very frustrated with the entire background check process. One I spoke with said he was phasing out his ammunition sales just because of the hassle it has become to sell it. He said when it it is gone it's gone and that's it for him. Plenty of guns, ammo, reloading supplies, etc. There were some decent buys to be had if you shopped around but a lot of the stuff was priced pretty high. Didn't find what I was looking for but it was nice to get out of the house for awhile. Just my opinion but I think it is a better show than Hamburg.
  13. Gregory Martin, 5, of Buffalo, caught this 1 lb 13.7 oz pumpkinseed in Oneida Lake in late August. If confirmed, the fish would set a new state record, and possibly a new world record.
