I must say I am very happy with my 3-9x40 BSA Sweet 22 scope. The paralex adjustment works well and the optics are clear. Piece of cake to dial in and the quick elevation adjustment is a nice ballpark for quick adjustment vs. quessing where to hold. It might take a few shots at the range to decide what turret you want to use for the ammo you use, but I find it much quicker to go from 50-150 yards without having to count the clicks... plus its easy to reset to zero. Its not dead on nuts but that is why you can test the three turrets that come with it to get the best result. I use the 36 grain with 38 and 40 grain ammo...seems to work closest for me. Plus for $45 dollars you really can't beat the price

Never in a million years would I have thought so many people on this forum would even know who Danzig was. I am in awe... and very happy

The end of the 2015-16 small game season...

Similar situation here. Kid brought his 12ga and I brought the 22. He got his first hunting kill today and another to back it up. I pop'd a small red that tried to sneak up behind me. I'll post a pic later tonight. -
So February 29th is soon to be upon us and the weather for the next 6 days is hit or miss but it looks to be snowless and wet for the most part. Is anyone planning on getting out for one last round? Personally I found a nice little spot of mixed hardwoods and conifers I plan on stalking this week, not only for those three fat pheasants I saw in the distance but also scouting for a nice spot for a stand come November. Figure while I'm out I'll keep an eye out for sheds.

I couldn't find a shed if my life depended on it....

I was wondering about this. I spooked a trio today while I as out stomping the brush for rabbits. They must have been laying down on the back side of a fallen tree basking in the sun. I kicked one fallen tree that was resting on another and they took off like missiles. The big male up front had a full rack. I thought they normally fell off by now. EDIT: Also saw a tiny fox (no bigger than my wife's cat) and a pair of beautiful snow owls. -
I accidentally grabbed the wrong box off the shelf so i have a 4 box multi pack of Winchester 20ga target shotshells, 100 rounds total. Paid $25 plus tax. Will sell for $20 cash. I would prefer face to face sale and to avoid shipping. Willing to meet within 15 miles of Syracuse. Contact me via pm here or email: [email protected]

When Anti-Gun Isn't 100% Anti-Gun
22Plinker replied to DirtTime's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
Totally agree it scares the unholy hell out of me the direction things are moving and the changes just in my lifetime. I try my best to hold out hope that some rational human being will quit focusing on one or two "small" specifics and look at the big picture. All these gun laws have an impact greater than just what the average law abiding gun owner sees how it affects them. Look at all the gun and ammo related business that would be affected with these laws. It's insane to think politicians would be willing to do such massive damage to our economy. I'm not trying in any way to make light the affects these proposed gun laws would have on the safety of our population. It's one thing to see how they would affect 30,000 people per year directly affected by gun related crime... but imagine how the close of hundreds if not thousands of businesses employing tens if not hundreds of thousands of employees would have near collapse scale effects on our economy. Just the Remington plant in Ilion had a massive impact on the local economy. Imagine handfuls of that in each state across the country all within a short period of time. I think i am talking myself into a nightmare -
When Anti-Gun Isn't 100% Anti-Gun

I am absolutely not arguing the rights of the 2nd amendment, BUT be careful what you say. It's not like amendments can't be repealed. 21st repealed the 18th. Not that I am saying it would likely ever happen... but the function and precedent to repeal constitutional amendments exists and has happened. It COULD happen again. I certainly hope not -
When Anti-Gun Isn't 100% Anti-Gun
22Plinker replied to DirtTime's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
That is a very basic generalization which may indeed be true, but then again perhaps the first gentleman didn't want to own a gun because he had young children. Perhaps he felt he lacked the education or experience to safely and ethically have a weapon. Perhaps he just didn't want one for no other reason than not wanting one. It's very easy to generalize because a lot of it is true, but if you don't ask them why, you will never know the truth. That is a flaw on both sides of this argument... many 2a supporters use 'anti-gun" generalizations such not wanting to own a gun means they think the gun is evil. Many anti-gun people make the generalization that they won't save your life because they read an article about gun carriers being shot or having their weapons taken from them. It's actually difficult not to work with generalizations because they are prompted by emotion and opinion, but just like stereotypes... they exist because often they are true. 2A can support their position with a myriad of honest to goodness facts based on both research and observation, while anti-gun supporters can do the same. How does this happen you may ask? Because besides "facts", our observations, except direct personal observation, are based on media bias we choose to follow. The left reports gun crimes of their preference while the right does the same. Ultimately in the situation the OP presented I would just hope that no matter what position you take regarding gun ownership... I hope they are never in a position to need a weapon for self defense... and if they ever are in that situation... that some sane gun owner and carrier is willing to accept the non carriers position and save him anyway despite their idealistic views -
Funny you say this. Until I started following this thread I had no idea there even was a political section on this forum

About 6 inches over night that turned to rain early morning and then heavy wet snow about 10am. Plowed out 10 of my neighbors with the RZR this morning and now everything is flooding. The DPW is digging up three yards up the road from my house because the yards are flooded right over the road. Baldwinsville here.

I have officially fired 106 rounds through the gun since its last cleaning. During the breakdown I put a small LED light at the end and looked down the barrel. Nothing appeared obviously outright as fowling. I did my normally cleaning. Sprayed the hoppes and used the wire brush, then ran soaked patches through it and got these results. After this i sprayed more hoppes down the barrel and let it soak while i cleaned and oiled the rest of the parts. I then ran a soaked path half way down the barrel and let it sit while i made a sandwich... came back and it was very white with only a very small spot of dark gray (looked like carbon). I didn't get a pic of it but it was cleaner than the bottom (last) patch in the above photo. With the kid off from school this week and much nicer weather ahead I am going to try to get out to the outdoor range and double check my zero at 50 and 100 yards. I'll post the results. I want to thank everyone so much for all the advice and help. You have been wonderful. This is exactly why I joined this site.

I am not sure if he is a hunter but Dr. Krzyzak did a great job for me, and I just got new glasses two weeks ago. He started with the standard visit, checking my old glasses prescription and doing a new eye test. When i started telling him about how it was hard to identify squirrels out past 100 yards he did a few more tests and fine tuned the focus. My new lenses are just amazing! I can see things so crisp and clear not only at 250+ yards but switching to close distance even reading doesn't give me headaches anymore. He did this without going to bifocals either. Overall I am super impressed with his quality exam and not rushing me out of the office. He took the time to talk to me and get to the root of my eye problems. Plus his office offers the digital eye-mapping which is helpful in tracking age related degeneration and diabetes related eye conditions. http://www.krzyzakeyecare.com/

This is just my personal opinion but I hate to see censorship thrown around haphazardly. Not saying that you would do that fasteddie... just saying if it is used it shouldn't be a little here and a little there. For the most part I think we are adults and should be able to have mature conversations even if they from time to time come to heated disagreements. What I hate more than censorship is personal attacks. You can disagree with people and think they are useless human beings that don't deserve to live... that doesn't mean you need to express it. The first amendment gives you the right to say nearly anything, but it doesn't absolve you of the responsibility of your words.

Guinness braised beef roast, slow cooked all day with the usual veggies. Garlic texas toast to go with it. My goodness the house smells wonderful. Less than an hour til dinner

I was expecting it to be -9 this morning but when i saw the thermometer at 7am say it was -22 I nearly crapped a golden brick! I'm glad I got all my neighborhood plowing out of the way last-night when it was just a mere -2 PS. My old man, down in China Grove NC, texted me this morning saying that it was cold (+19F). Made me smile when i saw that.

-3 here in syracuse, windchill -27. Just got done plowing the neighborhood with my RZR after 5-6 inches fell overnight. Now its time to let my beef stew cook all day...sit back and watch movies.

Correction. Einstein thought you couldn't eve move faster than the speed of light, but approaching speeds near the speed of light caused your relative acceptance of time to slow down. So if you and a friend started stop watches at the same time... the first guy ran max human speed (18mph) and the other guy ran .99 the speed of light... when each of them stopped to have lunch together later the guy running faster would have aged less and his stop watch would be behind his friend.

Yeah my initial problem was the rings sliding back on the rail. I've fired 120 rounds through it since the cleaning and its staying consistent and the rings aren't moving. I really think that part was just the locking bolt loosened up. Now with the thread lock on them they don't seem to be moving. I read an article about rifle accuracy being decreased immediately following cleaning but didn't really give it much thought. The scope is a BSA Sweet 22. Not the most expensive scope but it works well for an inexpensive gun.

When I first got the Marlin (my son got his the same day) we picked up 2 bulk boxes of 525 Federal Champion. We split them and fired roughly an equal amount. Then we picked up a few boxes of Thunderbolt. OMFG it was horrible! I only fired 2 rounds because it was just the dirtiest crap i had ever seen. First shot flashed hot powder on my leading hand when it failed to eject properly. The second shot caused the gun to not fire another round because all the grit that was inside the action. I had one of the guys at the gun club take the action completely apart. Come to find out it was carbon build up and grit on one of the pins that resets the hammer. It was a mess. So the guy at the gun club showed me how to clean it thoroughly and oil everything... it shot like a dream after. Since then I sold the boxes of Thunderbolt and stick with the CCI and Federal. There is little difference in those. Not so much at 50 yards and under but shooting at 100 yards the difference between CCI and Federal become very obvious. One of the members at the club gave me a handful of remingtom golden from the bucket of bullets... fired 1 magazine worth and was not very impressed. I couldn't hit a 2 inch group at 50 yards. I'll have to see if i can find the target but i believe it was a 2.1 inch group with two shots that were barely on the 8inch target.

I have both of those, but the one on the right, dark brown bottle has a tip on it similar to the oil top. It has a little spout. I also have another bottle a little thinner but taller than the right bottle with a spray nozzle on it Just realized the label says Hoppe's Elite and not Hoppe's #9. Sorry if that added to the confusion.
-
the Hoppe's kit came with a small spray bottle of solvent and a small bottle with a drop tip. I use the spray bottle in the barrel and to coat the action....and the other bottle to soak patches and the bore snake.
-
Next time I break it down to clean it i will leave a soaked patch in there for a couple minutes. Normally after I get everything torn down i spray the Hoppe's 9 down the barrel (each end) and let it sit while I clean and oil the action. Then I run the brush down the barrel and then two patches to get the heavy gunk out. Then I spray the front part of the bore snake (before the wires) with Hoppe's and run that through three times. Then I run lightly sprayed patches through until they come out clean (which this time was 6 patches so 8 total). Then one patch with barrel oil. That last patch was very clean, especially compared to the first two. I'll try to find time to break it down and clean it this week and I'll post pics of the progress, and final patch and one after the final that is soaked and allowed to sit for 5 minutes. EDIT: Before I started using the boresnake (wire brush only) it would take 15-20 patches to get it clean. The boresnake does a great job.
