I met one guy in the woods who admitted to making a mistake last year, and shot a spike. He cut the antlers off, and used his doe tag. So even though the AR is in place, not everybody follows them.

I would like some input building food plots for hunters

I would call that a close 2nd to baiting. -
Why are those graphic ? as opposed to deer guts being removed from a carcass.... The most graphic deer picture I saw was on another forum, where they use 00 buck shot on deer, and the deer bleeds out from multiple holes. That one I didn't like for some reason.

smart enough to hide from me all day yesterday, and the day before, and the day before that.

Could you just park the car and hunt, or do you need proper permits for each park ? ---------------------------------------------------- Huckleberry Ridge State Forest Roosa Gap Shawangunk Ridge State Forest Bashakill WMA Wurtsboro Ridge Open Space?

I hunted 3J for 4 days. saw NOTHING.... except 4 other men from the orange army. They saw nothing either.... well, one said he jumped 2 doe walking in, but they wern't worth shooting.... Came across some locals , who were all very nice. One offered me his tree stand, as he called it a day.... I may do one more weekend, and call it a season.. ... a dry season.

I hunted 3J for 4 days. saw NOTHING.... except 4 other men from the orange army. They saw nothing either.... well, one said he jumped 2 doe walking in................ I drove down what I think is Cox road. State land on both sides, until you get further in. There was one truck parked on the side......

2 days in the woods, NOTHING. But I saw 9 in a field driving home. Just off the road. 9 doe. Opening day, I almost ran over 4 driving up. There are more deer on the roads, than in the woods.

The wife opened some packages marked "stew meat". The butcher marked it like that. she cooked it for a few hours, but the meat is still gamey, and hard to eat. any ideas ?
-
That's interesting that you mention that. I did NOT hear a thing. I saw him fly up from the ground in front of me. Otherwise I would have never known he was there.

Saw an Owl today; he was within 20 yards. Beautiful animal. I kicked him up walking in, and he watched me for a bit. I'm glad they're protected, as I could had easily plastered him with my 7mm. Instead I watched him, and he watched me for a while. Then I took my eyes off him to look down hill, and I looked back up; he was gone, or he blended in so well I could not find him again. It's unusal to see them active during the day. Even if they wern't protected, I wouldn't have shoot upwards into a tree, as there was highway, and houses on the other side of the mountain..... Would have made a nice trophy.

I watched one chase a rabbit today. The rabbit was SCREAMING. -
Is 3M south of rt 52 ? If so, there are plenty of doe in there. I almost ran over 4 last week, and today there were 9 doe standing on the side of the road. Never seen 9 doe herding together. They might have been pressured out of the woods.....

2nd day of hunting. Saw NOTHING in the woods. The leaves were crisp and dry, so every foot step was heard load and clear. Driving home, 5 miles from camp; 9 DOE on the side of the road waiting to do something. They wanted to cross, but the car in front of me saw them and blasted the horn, so they froze on the side of the road. Then I blasted the horn, and they reversed direction. Never seen a heard of 9 before.

What did that poor deer ever do to you ? and then you let out all his blood. sheessssssssss.

How many rounds do the bow hunters, and muzzle loader crowd carry ?
-
How long would the average deer live if there was no hunting ? and let's not factor in starvation, and road kill. What is the life span of a typical deer ? I would guesstimate at least 10 years.

I almost hit 4 doe on the way up. (opening day) Locked up the brakes pretty hard. one brushed the bumper, and ran off. Last deer I saw all day. You can't shoot maimed deer. Maybe you can stab them to death.... They can't write you up for discharging your gun then. I can't think of any laws about stabbing them to death........ Maybe a DEC person could answer that question.
-
So you think it's OK that dirty triggers cause accidental discharge? I didn't wash my car for 3 months, or change the oil for 1 year, should it self aim to the nearest telephone pole, and claim owner neglect. Why would you protect Remmington ? Cause it's your favorite brand ? They are not even taking responsibility.

opening day, 4 small doe stood in front of my truck at 5:30 am. I was 1/2 hour away from the state land I hunt. Not going to fast. 35 MPH or so. I slammed on the brakes, locked em up. 3 cleanly made it by, the 4th brushed my bumper. Last deer I saw all day. None in the woods, None on any cars driving home.

Deer are smart enough, They can sniff you out 500 yards away. They can jump a bow string. They can hear you crunching leaves 1000 yards away. But they'll stand in front of my 6000 lb truck, and watch me getting closer and closer until I run them over.

During deer season, I usually see ZERO small game. Not even a squirrel. There are more squirel's on Long Island than there are upstate.
