  1. i'm going through my gear getting ready for next weeks muzzle load hunt up in the adk. so far in my survival pack is a fire starter, water purification kit, mirror, extra compass and cord. still feel like i'm only 1/4 of the way there,so what's in your pack??
  2. that's an awesome looking pup,i want one !!!
  3. keep the does closer and your in
  4. i just checked the one cabela's is selling it's almost the same as mine with a few improvements, they lowered the axle and added a hard midsection mine is a tarp over bars.there offering $5 shipping now. a long handle really is the key to how the cart works .http://www.cabelas.com/product/hunting/after-the-shot/game-carts-carriers|/pc/104791680/c/104689980/sc/104353380/cabela-s-deluxe-game-cart/1870761.uts?destination=%2Fcatalog%2Fbrowse%2Fgame-carts-carriers%2F_%2FN-1100183%2FNs-CATEGORY_SEQ_104353380%3FNS%3DCATEGORY_SEQ_104525280-0%26WTz_I%3DSBC%3BMMcat104791680%3Bcat104752080%26WTz_style%3DGNU
  5. mine is a cabela's cart i made the shields out of a garbage can i cut half circles and zip tied them on.up & down hills is where a cart can cause problems the winch/pulley idea is a good one.i;d personally would go with the 4 wheeled cart seems like it would be more stable. for me up at my new hunting area a cart is a no go,i just picked up a badlands 2200 fram pack and plain on cutting the deer up and packing it out.hopefully next weeks mz hunt i'll be able to try it out. good luck with the cart and season.
  6. I've been using a cart for about ten plus years there great if it's flat land without to many blow downs. A few things I've learned is to cover the spokes on the wheels and bring rope and/or a tarp to secure the deer. Other then that they work great. Hope this helps
  7. i was up at my place this past weekend those like buggers where hopping around every where at first i thought they where frogs till my brother pinned one down.i snap trapped 7 and all 3 block boxes where empty.there a lot different from the house mice down here.
  8. i had one of those same straps snap on a hang on.i think it was a comfort zone stand.i replaced them with gorilla straps.
  9. older does come into estrus earlier, was it a mature doe?
  10. i have a cabela's grinder and had the same problem with chewy venison, but not with other meats[beef, pork, chicken] i always thought it was the cuts of meat shanks being the main culprit,so i ground up a backstrap to try hamburger no more chewy meat.i now pick the grind cuts very carefully.
  11. i'm no expert on judging bear always hunted them with a guide in maine & cananda, but bears are one of the hardest animals to judge.fall bears are bigger the spring, the head & belly on that one in your photo look good differently not his first year alone. the one in the photo is 200-300lbs in the spring he blows up to over 300 in the late fall,my biggest was 280 smallest was 90lbs. i couldn't tell the difference until i walked up to them.
  12. i've tried grinding the with the other scrapes but still get that fatty chalky taste.i'll keep trying i have nothing to lose. as for waste nothing goes to waste in my eyes if a bug gets a meal out of it i'm good.i don't even throw table scrape in the garbage.
  13. how many of you eat the ribs? i've tried to cook them a few time bbq.oven, broiled and crockpot with no luck. when i google venison recipes the rib ones sound good till i make them.
  14. never seen that one,but i've been using hamburger helper for years with bambi meat. it good for a guy/girl who doesn't like stew.

try some benydril[oral] thats what they gave me for the itch. definitely get the permethrin and deet. as for the tree stand there really isn't much room on state land not to bump into other hunters.just because someone hangs a stand doesn't mean he owns the spot, there mostly one car parking spot so if your in its your spot. i always took my stand out with me. good luck out there plenty of big boys out there!!!

i was covered from head to toe with texas lone star ticks after talking to a dec biologist he claimed there where no chiggers up here, but your article proves other wise.it's one of the reasons i no longer hunt long island that and the lack of hunting access.it use to be a nice place to hunt and live but not anymore.
  17. that explains a lot about my property it was owned by a saw mill, but i haven't seen any on the state land ether.

  19. had this posted in a different section thought i'd try here, i've been hunting and scouting around the ferris/silver lake area for 4 years now and have yet to see any oaks are they void in this area? i did find a few beechnut trees even found one on my land[10 acres] i'm thinking of planting a few chestnuts next spring
  20. Remington® 870 Express Pump Action Shotgun Combos with this set-up you could hunt anything in ny,i ran around with a 12ga. when i was younger now a days it's a 20ga. with the bullets available it works for me.
  21. i going to try these this year http://www.cabelas.com/product/bear-sense-smoke-sticks-12-miles-of-dead-fish/744782.uts never tried them but have had great success with tinks all season sticks
  22. the whole way in from long island[driver] everyone was saying on the cb it was an attack then the second plain hit i was on the throgsneck bridge and look to the left and saw the disaster by the time i turned around and got back into queens the towers fell. that day changed my view of the world forever.
