  1. I've only seen one bear in the wild my entire life...and it happened to be at Sterling Forest. Saw it on walking along the side of a road as I was driving. I guess that all I can say is yes, there are bears at Sterling. As far as hunting them, sorry. Don't have any advice.
  2. You don't understand. I was afraid for my life when that beast was coming at me. An epic battle it was. This will be a grandchildren/camp fire story for years to come.
  3. Didn't know about the 21 and over rule. The Dicks in White Plains won't sell me .22 ammo because I don't have a pistol license which I must have to purchase any ammo that can fit into a handgun. (I guess they never consider the Thompson/Centers) I go to the Gandermountain in Middletown and I walk out with a box of .22 ammo and they don't say anything other than "Thank you. Come again." I order .22 ammo online and they show up at my door. Go figure.
  4. Why start a new thread when there is already 5 or 6 other existing threads about AR on the forum? Gets really difficult to follow.
  5. I just figured others might not but I'll be willing to go.
  6. I'll stick with 223 but if I came across one under 100 yards while carrying my 17 HMR with V-Max rounds, I wouldn't hesitate either.
  7. I agree with Culvercreek with the .223. If you feel the .223 is too light for deer then maybe a 30-30?
  8. I prefer a quicker death. Nothing against your method. Just my own personal preference.
  9. It took 2 shots. Where did the 1st shot hit? Ddi it miss the vitals?
  10. I think the landowner can also say they don't want you hunting their land anymore.
  11. It's starting to appear more and more like there is a portion (I'm not going to say all) of pro-AR guys out there that are the types that selfishly don't want other hunters to kill their prize trophy because they want it for themselves.
  12. Has any else ever used beer in their cereal when they realized they had ran out of milk before or am I the only one?
  13. Could be true...I'm not expect either. From what I recall, turkey is ideally taken with a headshot so some companies even make a super-full choke a.k.a. turkey choke.
  14. As an active military personal you can hunt West Point during big game season. Just need to check in every morning and check out when you're done. As far as size shots, you should also worry about the choke. For slugs, you should probably go with no choke at all. Turkey, you need to go with a full choke. For rabbits, modified is fine.
  15. It fixes your vision but it doesn't stop father time. For of like a leaky tank. The surgery fills the tank back up to the top. I had the surgery around 5-6 years ago. It set me to 20/20 in one eye and 20/15 in the other. I literally had bionic vision. Right now, I'm more like 20/25 and 20/20 respectively. Ideally, you get the surgery done when your vision has deteriorated to the point when it won't deteriorate anymore. I doubt your vision is going to stop deteriorating in your mid-forties. If you wait till then to have it done you might have to have it done again in your fifties. Just my opinion. But of course, I'm not an eye doctor so take my opinion with a grain of salt.

Four Season, Just trying to stay on the outside of this conversation here and not taking any sides because frankly, I don't know anything about CWD. But it seems to me almost each and every time anyone mentions anything about CWD you attack their statement by saying that their statements clearly shows they know nothing about CWD but yet you do not point out what it is that they had said that was inaccurate and you have provided little insight into the truth about CWD. As someone who is hearing about CWD for the first time, I'm more confused than ever.
  17. I check the floor for freshly chewed up acorns or beechnuts. I don't rely so much on nest because they're not usually active at their nest. When they're at their nest, they're basically sleeping for the night. I find better luck at their feeding area. Look for half eaten acorns that are flesh wet and fleshy in the middle. Then sit off to the side somewhere (Don't sit directly under their feeding spot and with your back to a tree as Muthers suggest so squirrels behind you can't see you) and stay completely quiet for 15 to 20 minutes. Squirrels generally feed twice a day. An hour or so after sunrise and an hour or two before sundown. During those times is when you'll find the most activity. During the fall, you will see squirrels throughout the day because their basically rushing to fatten themselves up for the winter but still, at a hot spot, you will see maybe 2 squirrels the whole day and all of a sudden, 4:30-5:30 rolls around and you'll see 5 or 6 running around all at once.
  18. You do need to put your permit on the dash. While there isn't designated parking lots, there are sections of the sides of the roads that has some space for a car.
  19. Hmm...did not know.
  20. The "Ma Deuce"?
  21. If that's the case then my guess is that they probably won't be all that happy if you bought home a gun without their approval anyway. Unless you live on your own.
