Sad but last night was the first time shooting the bow since last season
Elmo replied to burmjohn's topic in Bow Hunting
Return trip to the archery range. After some test shots to fix my sight, I think I'm good enough to hit the vitals on a broadside shot from 20 to 25 yards out. Can't seem to hit the bullseye but I'm consistently around. 1 out of 10 arrows I'll pull to the side or drop the bow too early or something but the other 9 are at least in the red. I want to eventually get some tighter groups and shoot out to 30-40 yards but being that this is only my 3rd time shooting a bow, ever, I'm pretty happy with my results. -
Advice I was given: "Don't take the shot you think you can make, take the shot that you think you can never miss."
-
Canines also are color blind. Essentially any animal that has "night-vision" are color blind to some degree because they sacrificed a majority of their cones (color sensitive receptors) for more rods (light sensitive receptors).

Those are some great shots wooly!
-
I would pass. If I miss, I'll just hit the buttocks which will do nothing but injury the deer.
-
I don't plan on carrying a back-up though I might decide to get a tension handle releases to give them a try. If something every goes wrong with my release out in the field then I plan on hurling insults at the deer and try to damage it's feelings.

fasteddie, I'm not following. So you think it's safe to use fluflu's through a whisker biscuit?
-
I have a whisker biscuit and logically it seems like it would mess it up if shot through a whisker biscuit. On a brand new bow I rather not risk it.

As a kid, I use to catch tiny common garter snakes at this abandoned field near where I grew up. There was so many that anytime I went, I was guaranteed half dozen within an hour. I went to college. Came back and found out the field is now a middle-school and asphalt parking lot.

I can't believe "half of the hunters" surveyed would support this. I wonder where this lady is getting her data from? Did they only survey 2 hunters and 1 was a nitwit? The lady who wrote this article is from the Humane Society so I would have to question her sources.

I thought about doing so but I've also heard many stories of their trail cams being vandalized or stolen. I don't want to risk spending all that money and having that happen.
-
I have no idea. First time I heard of these arrows was during the Bow Hunting Class I took 2 weeks ago.

Thanks eddie and Doewacker. The arrows I've been shooting are 28" (I just measured the shaft. Not counting the tip or nock). It's what the guy at the shop gave me when I had my bow tuned. The arrows flu-flu shaft I see are all 30" to 31" long. Would shooting a longer arrow throw off my form or accuracy?

I mean the video's I've seen, they were shooting up with normal arrows.
-
They must not be popular or something because I can't find them anywhere other than certain pro-shops. Nobody else seems to sell them. I've seen video's of people hunting raccoons and squirrels up in the trees with a bow. I always wondered if they miss, isn't the arrow pretty much gone?

Glad everyone's safe.

The 17HMR is a caliber I've been interested in getting but I just haven't been able to justify it. Been looking to buy a Henry Repeater but my intended use for it (squirrel hunting, plinking) calls for a .22LR instead.

Sad but last night was the first time shooting the bow since last season
Elmo replied to burmjohn's topic in Bow Hunting
Went to the Queens Archery Range today. Was shooting under 2 inch groups out to 20 yards. Then all of a sudden I started shooting everything to the left and that's when I realized my sight wasn't screwed on tight enough and it moved when I set my bow down on the bench. Re-adjusted but by then I was getting tired and my groupings were like 6 inches. -
.17 HMR on a Coyote? That's some nice shooting!

I was driving my brother to school (Stuyvesant High School which is a block from the WTC). We ended up getting stuck in the highway. Got a call from a friend of mine that a plane crashed into one of the towers. We said "probably an accident". Immediately followed by another call that a second plane had hit the towers. Ok, not something is up. But I was blocks away from the WTC back in 1993, the first time it got hit and I barely felt a tremor. Since then, I always looked at those towers as being invincible but then I got another call saying that the towers came down. I couldn't believe until we started seeing smoke in the distance. The months after that, my borther joined the army and went to the front lines. I was hired by the September 11th Recovery Program and worked there till we closed the shop.

Free Treestand Safety Harnesses
Elmo replied to WNYBuckHunter's topic in Hunting Items For Sale and Trade
My brother and I are on the look-out for a couple of climber tree stands that we're planning to buy in the coming month. We were looking at one that comes with a harness (Field & Stream Primetime Lite) but haven't locked ourselves to it yet. If we go with one that doesn't come with a harness then I will need 2 harnesses. -
Yeah...no. I did not put that crap in my mouth. How crazy do you think I am? I need a whole lot more whiskey in my system to do something like that.
-
Hmmm...not to bad. Tastes a little like that girl who gave me gonorrhea that one time.

If I do, do I get a Daisy Red Ryder on Christmas?
