  1. Woah! That would be statutory rape!
  2. http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/skunk.htm This site also recommends Natures Miracle. Interesting how it mentions not to spray the dog with water as the skunk oil will only spread. Something that makes sense but I won't have thought of.
  3. btw, jmasiakos. That's a great photo. Very good composition and play of light.
  4. Got you both beat. I'm a tech support supervisor. I sit in front of the computer all day so I have the site open at all times during the work day. I also check before I go to bed at night. Some people might say it's unhealthy.
  5. Heard someone say to stay off of hilltops. That wildlife tends to avoid mountain or hilltops and congrugate in the valleys. Is this true or not? What if the hilltop or mountain top is more of a plateau?
  6. I agree with the TC Venture in .308 is one of these best gun dollar per dollar. I'd go the extra $100 for the Venture. But then again, for an few bucks more, you can get the Remington 700. If it's not in the budget then the Axis is not a bad choice either. It really comes down to how it feels in your hands. I didn't like the way the Axis felt. I went with a Remington 700.
  7. Ny hunter: no. I went there most of regular deer season last year. There is a small section that is shotgun only and it's pretty empty since everyone else goes over to the rifle sections.
  8. Thanks, ny hunter. I wasn't much of a fan of Stewart because it's like a war zone there. You hear a shotgun blast every other minute but I have to pay the price for my mistakes and I guess I'll have to deal with it. I'll also check out Storm King and California Hill. Know anything about those areas? Will stick with West Point during rifle season.
  9. Thanks. I mean it's totally my fault, I should have been more careful and read things more carefully. I consider myself lucky it's just one park for just one year.
  10. Been trying to get a friend of mine hunting so I got him to go with me today for some crow shooting as an observer. Figured some fast pace action my get him hooked. Took him to this one open field I scouted last season only to find out that it is now a corn field. No place to set up blind and decoys now. So we went to Sterling Forest instead. Saw a bunch of stuff along the road (a turkey, a coyote, and a bunch of fawn and does). We hiked around Sterling for some time. Was able to shoot a squirrel. He enjoyed his time out. When we got back to the car, we noticed that the park police and park ranger were there waiting for us. Apparently firearms are not allowed in Sterling Forest until after November 1st. One tibbit that I must have skipped over when I read the rules and regulations to the park. The park police and ranger let us go without writing me up at all because I it was obvious something I didn't realize and wasn't doing anything on purpose and since I followed everything else to a tee. My papers were properly displayed on the dashboard, my tag was properly displayed on my back, I had a trigger lock for my shotgun and it was unloaded, etc. Park management though, revoked my park permit for the year so now I can't hunt Sterling Forest for the rest of this year which sucks big time because I did all my scouting there, saw some deer signs, and had my spot picked out for bowhunting season. Got to read every rule to every park/area you go to carefully. I skimmed through it and missed the most important sentence in the whole pamphlet. I am fortunate that the officer was so lenient with me because it could have been a lot worst. The other positive note was that it didn't seem to damper my friends experience on hunting.
  11. I just bought the Field and Stream PrimeTime Lite from Dicks in White Plains. http://www.dickssportinggoods.com/product/index.jsp?productId=4286154&cp=4406646.4413993.4414427.4414432 As stated, it comes with a safety harness so I'm no longer in need of one. Thanks!
  12. Became a fan in 85. Enjoyed 86. And then it's been nothing but heartaches since then. But I'm not a bandwagon fan. I have never switched teams (Knicks, Giants, Rangers, Mets, U of Michigan Wolverines, heck...even the New York Liberty) the moment I become a fan. For better or worst. Mostly worst.
  13. People asked me that all the time and I actually lived near Yankee Stadium. I'm a Mets fan because my older brother who got me into baseball was a Mets fan and he became a Mets fan because of the fiery bad boy attitude of the '85 Mets.
  14. I think that their names were Cy Young, Satchel Paige, and Walter Johnson. Back when athletes were athletes and not pampered babies.
  15. I'm a Mets fan first and formost but as a proud New Yorker I can never hate the Yankees. I'm just glad the Mets don't have to pay A-Rod 6 more years at $24 per year. Then again, the Wilpon can't even afford that.
  16. Only went up to Sterling once all year and only for an hour or two. Never really hiked far from the road. Didn't notice any signs. Then again, I'm new to the game as well so I might have walked past an obvious sign and not even notice it. During last winter I saw some tracks and droppings (much easier to see on top of frozen snow) so there are some deers there.
  17. The problem is this country has put too much burden of truth on the law. I once ran into an internet scam. The moment I was onto them I kept stringing them along while I called the internet crime bureau. The bureau told me that since I haven't actually sent them any money, no actual crime has been committed so they can't do anything about it. To which I replied and I quote, "So if they want to kill me, I have to let them kill me first before I can report it?" Their response: "Unfortunately...yes." To avoid wrongfully accusing one person, we allow 10 others to be murdered.
  18. My apologies, the statement is actually: "You may not possess a firearm of any description while bowhunting." NOT bowhunting season. http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/8310.html So I guess you can carry as long as you're not bowhunting. But personally, I don't want to be caught in a situation where I have to try and prove to the officer that I'm actually out hunting varmint and not really poaching deer. Not very convincing when carrying a high powered centerfire as oppose to a rimfire or a shotgun loaded with bird shot.
  19. Emailed a jewish friend of mine on the clarifications of their views of hunting and this is what he wrote back: "it really depends on the jew... is he a religious jew or a jew in name only? (i.e. birth right.) judaism forbids hunting because an animal needs to be slaughtered in a certain manner to be kosher. the animal needs to have its throat slip in one slice with a blade that is free of nicks. hunting is seen as inhumane because it usually doesnt kill the animal right away... but alot of jews eat ham... so its really not so much that he happens to be jewish... he may just be a jew who does his own thing..."
  20. Geez! Makes me not want to move into the country. I'll stick with the drug dealers and muggers instead. At least they'll just take your purse or wallet.
  21. nyantler, I agree. Sitting through those classes were a long drag. Especially since different people learn at different paces. I'm not going to boast about how smart I am but there were simple some really dumb people in the class that just talked way too much. I will counter propose. Make the classes only an hour questioninging session. Student gets "home work" and goes home and read the material on their own. Final session will be the exam. Testing must be done in person to verify that it is indeed you who is taking the exam for you. And finally, why isn't there any "how to hunt" courses? I would certainly take it.
  22. It's illegal to carry centerfire in the woods once deer archery season starts because it's also illegal to hunt turkey with a centerfire rifle as well is it not?
  23. Hmm...I could hang it inside my dad's garage. Just have to figure how to transport it back to the city. Drive a Chevy Malibu and Toyota Camry. Not going to stuff a dead bleeding deer into the backseats. Maybe stuff it in a heavy duty garbage bag and throw it in the trunk?
