  1. I'm sure you all already know this but c'mon?! 11 DAYS!!! I already can't sleep. I did more 'off-season' prep this year than ever before. Not much for , but trying to improve and prepare better and better each year. I've had cameras out since spring turkey season and let them soak since 8/1, gonna pull cards only when I hunt near a camera. Hung 2 lone wolf alpha hang-ons in August, cleared a walking path through a creek for quiet and hopefully less scent entry and raked a path from the top of a drainage above the creek entry to my stand and a path to the other stand, got a new safety harness, been shooting my bow since May, I'd say at least 2,500 arrows this summer, paper tuned the bow. There is junk corn planted in the field this year and found some good beds while scouting this summer that look to be used every year with well worn rubs and this and that and 11 FREAAAKING DAYYYSS!!!! Good luck to everyone and WEAR YOUR SAFETY HARNESS IF YOU'RE IN A STAND!
  2. Well, I've been looking to extend my season some and have been looking at a CVA Accura V2 LR Nitride with a thumbhole stock a comes w/ Konus Pro 3 10x44 scope. Just looking on any reviews from you guy's n girls that may have shot one of these and what bullet you'd recommend. Thanks for any info!
  3. I picked up a vortex glasspak harness for my binos. But, it's khaki tan brown and everything else I have is camo. So I have this khaki square floating in the middle of my chest. Well, I had some left over stealth strips from when I was silencing my hang on stand so I cut some pieces to fit and im pretty content with the results. We'll see how they do in rain. 4. Not the best but first round after a couple of weeks of not being able to get out to shoot Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  5. Well, baby number 3 is due in early Sept. so I don't wanna risk hanging my two stands super close to the due date. I was planning on the last weekend of Aug. but might hang them 8/12 or 8/19 and clearing lanes etc. What are your thoughts? Thanks!
  6. Damn ya got me, my name is Jason and I live near Buffalo. What is gtg? Does it involve eating food and or drinking beer?
  7. First shot, then first round sitting down (4th rd. overall) 20yds Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  8. Luck? Yeah probably Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  9. No, I can't be sure. It may have closed back up, I didn't even know that was a possibility. But now I do, thanks !
  10. Alright, I took off of work the last week of bow. I saw the buck that I ended up killing on Tuesday and passed on him in hopes of seeing Mr. Big. Didn't see him. Went back on Thursday and the 1st buck came right back down the same trail (i thought) nose to the ground and moving quickly. I wanted to make sure my freezer wasn't empty so I wasn't gonna pass him twice. I stopped him with a 'bahp' and he paused I took the shot but he was a little further than where he was on Tues. (about 5-10yds). I hit one lung and he bled like crazy, ran up to the top of the hill/trail and waited. I was hoping he'd bed down, but he put his nose back to the ground and walked off. I waited about 45mins before I came down from my climber, went to look for blood and my arrow. Found the arrow and it hadn't opened! There was some snow on the ground so blood was easy to spot and there was a lot. Left to get a cup of coffee and some grub and to give him some time. Came back a few hours later and started to check out the blood trail, very good blood, he bedded down a couple times and jumped a narrow creek, tons of blood, I didn't know how he kept moving. Followed the blood as far as I could, charlie horses in both legs lifting my big boots in and out of the snow, hiking ridge-lines following this mfer. Blood the whole way. Got to a clearing on the neighbors property, blood trail going right across it. This was 2.5 miles trail so far. Backtracked the 2.5 miles back to point of the shot. Stretched the legs a bunch. Tried to get contact info for the landowner. Finally got a number from an ad she had placed for work. Called her and explained what happend, and that I was asking to access their land on the other side of the cleared field to take up the blood trail. Her husband hunts and she was okay with it, I thanked her and thanked her for even picking up the phone and giving me time to talk with her. Now I'm hanging half out of my truck laughing trying to stretch my damn legs because they've both seized up with cramps! People driving by me like, wtf?! I drive to the property, walk up to where the blood trail starts on the other end of the field. Thank God for the snow! I see antlers in a thicket, then eyes looking right at me, it's my buck, he's alive, he's tired, a hot doe on the other side of the thicket bounds off. He gets up, staggers off after her. Shit! I load an arrow and follow. He beds down further in the thicket. I see him get up, I circle the thicket walking around a mound of dirt/soil. He's beat. I put another arrow in him to finish up. He died a few long minutes later. Man that was crazy! I drag him out to a spot where I can field dress him, tag him, then a nice easy down hill drag through snow back to my truck. Great, my back tags and buck tag are gone! This is a great day! I load him up, it's dark now, then drop him off at the property I hunt. I run to walmart to get spare tags with 10 mins left before they close the desk. I run back, tag him, put him in the truck, drive back home, EAT everything in the house, and sit down. My wife asks what the hell took so long, haha! I've been shooting my bow consistently all year to get the reps in and hopefully ensure a better hit. 76 days till I get to try again.
  11. What do you like, fixed or mechanical broad heads and why? My mechanical didn't open last year and led to a 2.5 mile blood trail in the snow during the rut. Yes I recovered the deer, I'll never forget that hunt. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  12. I'm in the same boat, except I'm gonna grab a 4th spypoint from cabela's for $99. I have 3 others in the field and it gonna be #1's 4th year and #2 and #3's 2nd or 3rd year. They're affordable, take clear video and still shots in day and night, and the batteries have lasted me at least a year in each cam. Good luck!
  13. Thanks, yeah I was looking to see what brand/type people recommend. Or if it doesn't really matter, just a regular ratchet strap.
  14. I appreciate the feedback to my earlier post about mods to a hang on stand and climbing sticks. I usually use a climber but recently bought a hang on. I'm just trying to get all the things that I need in the fall, now. Any recommendations on a extra, or two, ratchet strap or something to secure to the tree (that's quiet) in case of a mishap with the straps that come with the stand. (lone wolf alpha, has an upper and lower strap). I plan on leaving the stand in one location, if I run n gun I'll probably use the climber. Thanks for any tips! 112 Days!
  15. Thanks, I actually am just doing that haha!
  16. Well, now that turkey season is over and there's only 118 days till opening day, I just purchased a lone wolf alpha 2 hang on stand and am looking for any modification suggestions. I have some felt with a adhesive backing for noise control for the climbing sticks and the stand edges, but was looking to see if anyone else has any good modification suggestions. Thanks for any info!
  17. I missed the opener so Monday was my opener. I usually sit and wait on my hunts but my opportunities to get out this year are less so I was a little aggressive. I heard 3 gobblers at sunrise, then it got quiet. I decided to creep back into the woods and pull my cards from some cameras I have set up. After missing and walking by my camera, I heard a loud tom hammer off about 150 yds away. I called to him after he gobbled with a woodhaven mouthcall then I stayed quiet. Man, my heart started pumping and I put my hen down, facing away from the direction the gobble came from. I snuck off about ten yards from the hen and saw the brightest red I've ever seen glistening in the sun! He was hurrying on the way over for some love or a fight. Smacked him with benelli 12ga., 3 1/2 in. hevishot magnum blend about 25ish yards away, he dropped right there! I went back out Tuesday, but didn't hear a thing. Gonna try to tag out this Saturday! Good luck!
  18. dammit! sorry about the sideways view...
  19. Suburb buck, City of Tonawanda on 4/6/19 about 7:45pm
  20. This isn't one of those "eat super hot fireballs, and the deer will come to you" type of troll is it?. Ah, don't tell me, because I'm definitely getting back out there if this is legit!!!!!
  21. Wait wait wait wait wait whoa whoa what!? I can use my leftover regular season buck tag for a deer of either sex with a bow or mz in late bow/mz? Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  22. Hope you feel better and get some answers! My legs have been getting craaaaaazy hardcore charlie horses this whole season. I don't know if it's from not drinking enough water or getting older, or if the multiple layers or heavy ass boots. I turned 35 in September and have been more sore for longer. I got my buck on the 2nd last day of bow. Shot him low and tracked him in the snow for 2.5 miles to another property, then had to double back. In my truck talking to the landowner I had to get out on the side of the road and stretch, it hurt so bad! There I am upper half in the truck, ass end hanging out in the street trying to get permission to retrieve my deer. I found him and was able to put a 2nd arrow in him. I went out this last Tuesday and same thing, crazy, really painful cramps.
