    Ready for the Travers!!
  2. Awesome! Thanks for sharing the pics and stories. Enjoy! Can't wait to see the moose pics!!
  3. Yes, good memory. https://buffalonews.com/2011/01/22/haunted-by-his-fatal-decisiondavid-damico-recalls-the-events-that-led-to-the-tragic-shooting-of-david-w-park/
  4. 00 Federal Flite Control in the tube and a velcro side saddle with 00 and slugs. The chamber is left empty so I have the choice of racking in the 00 or stripping off a slug from the side saddle and dropping it in. Situation will dictate.
  5. FWIW, consider that the intruder(s) may be drunk, high on drugs or having a psychotic episode. They don't respond to commands or a Shack-Shack from a 12 ga. I believe there was a teacher shot dead in Rochester after ignoring all commands by homeowers to stop and leave. Sad outcome all around as that older couple felt terrible about being forced to defend themselves and ultimately taking a life.

Big fan of the barrel-aged Abbey, TF. Paired well with the 3/4 lb cheeseburgers I grilled for dinner. This one isn't too shabby either.

Don't blink. Brews are flowing fast here with my BIL.
  8. Those straws will get you 5-10 hard time in Cali.
  9. My sincerest condolences for your Pop, First-light.
  10. No worries Rob. I didn't take any offense to your reply or anyone else's here for that matter. The post was meant to stimulate conversation, that's all. Most of us have an interest in taking care of our families and this was one of those random occurrences that raised an alarm for me. Not a 5 alarm, condition red scenario by any means, but something that compelled me to make some decisions. I carry anyway so really this came down to two questions: Do I want something more than my ccw handy? Do I worry my daughter and tell her to go inside, thus ruining her practice time? If the threat was right in my neighborhood, we would have gone inside asap and let LE do their job. The threat was outside the neighborhood so I opted to stay alert and ready to move back in, if needed. Everything worked out fine, the guy was caught (announced by the Town who provided updates) and my daughter had her fun. Who knows what the next one brings. This was the fourth manhunt nearby in 12 years. As to firearms, they're on my pistol permit so the State already knows what I have. I don't feel that I'm giving up any secrets. If other guys want to maintain full OPSEC, that's their call. Makes no difference to me.

    Scored some Sam this time.
  12. I respect your opinion. Going in would have been the safe play. However, the threat was outside my immediate neighborhood, there were 30 LEO's plus K-9 and aviation involved, and my sight lines and cover afforded a very swift retreat inside, if needed. Being alert and ready seemed a reasonable response at the time.
  13. Practice taking headshots on an obscured target that simulates a bad guy holding a gun or knife to your loved one's head or neck. Let me know how that works out for you with a sg. Even with 00 Federal Flite Control I can't keep pellets off my hostage target at 10 yds. However, I can pound that bad guy's pumpkin every time using an AR with red dot optic.
  14. I don't want to side track on an overpenetration debate as the topic has been beat to death all over the webs. "For me", I shoot and handle an AR best. If I ever had to take a headshot on a guy holding a gun to my daughter's head, I want an AR in my hand, ideally. If penetration with 5.56 was that big of a deal, then you wouldn't see SWAT teams using them as their primary on warrant service. The guy with the sg is only using it to breach a door or (sadly) for dogs.
  15. Sadly, I am not professional enough to possess a 15 rd mag. An AR would have been the easy choice over the 12ga inside, but un-SAFE ruined that option too.
  16. Our neighborhood has a very active fb group that passes info along quickly. So tonight, the alarm spreads for a large manhunt taking place a few miles away for a spanish looking guy in khaki shorts with a gun. Apparently, he beat his gf pretty bad and ran. I could hear sirens and a helicopter not far off, possibly moving our way. Many of the nervous housewives warned others to stay inside, but my daughter wanted to practice field hockey so I stayed in the driveway to watch her. She didn't need to know about this nutjob or have it ruin her practice time. With a G19 under my shirt, a Mossy 12ga staged inside the garage door and long sight lines, I had no qualms about being outside. No one even noticed until we came inside and I staged the 12ga in a corner of the kitchen. So if a manhunt goes down near you, what are you grabbing to defend the homestead? When it comes right down to it, which firearm do you want in your hand if a fugitive approaches or enters your house?
  17. Good answer. Of course, now you've got to be like, "What in the heck did I just agree too?!"
  18. Voted. I had a Little Brother many moons ago. Very worthy cause.
  19. Ok, I haven't shared this with anyone yet, but everyone here on the forum has been a great source of hunting info for me and I feel compelled to give back. Here's the thing: All of those ADK hikes that I've been doing weren't just to become an ADK 46'R. In fact, I have been quietly developing a first of its kind electronic squatch caller...AND IT WORKS! That was no moose that I heard while camping, it was a real SQUATCH coming in to my calls!!! While I may be somewhat conflicted over harvesting an ADK Bigfoot, there is no question my one of a kind eFoot caller works! You guys are the first ones that I am offering these to, but act fast! As soon as the first hunter calls in and drops a Squatch, there is no way that I'll be able to keep up with demand!! I'm going to make a special offer just to the forum members here: $99.95 (+8% NY sales tax) for the soon to be famous eFoot caller! PM me right now with your credit card info or Paypal while supplies last!!!

    Beer

Yes, it was surprisingly lame. I was at least expecting cans of Sam IPA or something similar. Wasn't really in the mood for wine or cocktails and the ponies weren't cooperating either so I cut my losses, thanked our wholesaler host and left before the last race. Overall, still a fun day out of the office.

First time in one of those luxury suites on the clubhouse turn at Saratoga. Beer selection consisted of cans of Coors Lite, Heinekin, Heinekin Lite, Miller Lite or Corona. Couldn't do it.
  22. My ex worked for Zeibart for a short while and my comment here would be "Buyer beware".
