  1. For sure, it's been a bit of a struggle with my daughter to get her out shooting. She has some decent anxiety that can get in her way but over time with enough encouragement she has been able overcome it. Saturday in between deer hunts we did a little youth pheasant hunt with the kids. We purchased and released 25 birds in small groups and let the kids hunt them. We started with some trap shooting as a warm up and it took some good convincing from myself and 2 others to get her behind the youth 20ga but once she did she was good to go and once she knocked down that first bird she was hooked! Now she's telling me we have to go out small game hunting, buy a bird dog and buy an over/under for her to shoot. Freeking kids LOL
  2. What a long youth weekend it was. Long story short we seen plenty of deer. My daughter took a long shot at a buck that ended up being a clean miss. Then a little while later she took at shot at a different buck this time well within her comfort range the first shot looked good but he bounded off 20 yards and stopped I had her send another one. That shot got a mule kick out of him and he trotted back into the woods and it really looked like he got in about 10-20 yards and just laid down. It was early in the evening so we gave him a couple of hours before going to look but we didn't find anything. No blood no hair and no buck. We went back had dinner came back out with about 10 people lined up and walked a few hundred yards just hoping he was laying somewhere but no such luck. We both hope that we either see him again either on camera or in person just so we know that he is still alive. Buck fever really got her good so she was shaky for the shot which is what I am hoping led to a clean miss.
  3. I'm going the opposite way. I have a 95 Kawasaki Ninja 600 sitting in the garage that hasn't been ridden in almost 10 years now. It will be put up for sale in the spring. With everything else I do it's time to let it go. I doubt it would even be comfortable for me to ride anymore. My age says I'm young but my back and hip say I'm old.
  4. I remember it being talked about a few years ago and it never went anywhere. Maybe this time it will.
  5. They do not and will not send out a reminder to renew the permit. They can send out reminders for every boat, trailer, ATV, Vehicle etc. but "can't" send one out for the pistol permit.
  6. Call me weird but with the wrist strap release that I use my thumb acts as an anchoring point on the back side of my neck my index finger is run along my cheek and is used as the trigger finger. The rest of fingers are held loose in a natural positions and the palm faces more down than anything.
  7. So sorry to hear this. Hopefully everything will work out in the end.
  8. I bought my daughter her lifetime license on-line recently after she finished the hunters education course and before she turned 12. Everything came in the mail in just a few days. When we went to get her the doe permits she had to be there to sign what was printed out then. Not sure how old he is but if/when you ever go to a brick and mortar store for a license for him bring a school ID or something with you. I was not expecting her to need an ID but the store let it slide. You can also get the doe permits online for him and avoid the store as well. For us it was just a timing thing and we couldn't do it online.
  9. Thank god I’m going to work today. I’ll have a better chance at seeing a deer. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. Not that todays weather was the best but it’s a shining example of nothing in life is guaranteed. You can do everything possible to be successful but still come up short. good thing it’s only hunting and there’s always next time. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. Nothing seen yet. Game plan set for this evening. Gonna try and hunt a group of doe that have been seen fairly regularly. Just gotta use the afternoon to our advantage to get in there and get a spot on the ground. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. Sitting in a ground blind waiting on a deer…. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. I really have no motivation for this morning. If it wasn’t for my daughter being able to hunt I think I’d go back to bed. But My daughter and I are getting ready. Raining now but that’s suppose to end between 6-7. Worst case is we will sit in one of the ground blinds but I’d really prefer if we could go sit in a natural blind I worked on that’s in a heavy traffic area. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. Been a rough couple of weeks at the house thats for sure. Zapped all my energy. Good thing is it’s nothing serious. Talked to my daughter and we are in for tomorrow morning and evening hunts with her behind the crossbow. That will definitely help pick my spirits up. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. Afternoon family plans have changed so I’m free to hunt but man 75 degrees 12 mph winds with heavy gusts just do not have me feeling it at all. Oh also I had 4 wisdom teeth pulled on Monday so my mouth still hurts. My wife has bronchitis and both kids are getting over colds. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. 16 is no longer a youth/junior hunter and can hunt from an elevated position. Only restriction for 16-17 year olds is as follows. 16- and 17-Year-Old First Time Big Game Hunters Resident and non-resident hunting license holders aged 16 and 17 who have not previously hunted deer or bear must be accompanied for the entire season by a parent, legal guardian, or by a person designated in writing who is 18 years of age or older. The adult mentor must be licensed to hunt big game and have at least 1 year of big game hunting experience.
  17. Yes, Online course is still available. My daughter took both the hunters education and bow hunting course online this year. I feel newer hunters that don't come from a hunting family/background would benefit the most from an in class room discussion. The online version I think fit well for my daughter and probably most of our kids on this forum because they are learning about hunting at an early age from us and from being in the woods. My daughter has way more hunting knowledge at 12 than I did at 16-20 years old. My early hunting knowledge was sit here, don't move and shoot the first deer that comes along.
  18. I sat on the south edge of a field on Sunday morning. The north end is about 450 yards away. I was happy with how much and how well I could see. Inside the woods has been real thick still so this was my first chance to really test them out.
  19. Calling it. 6 doe seen. Closet where 170 yards. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. The ladies are toying with my emotions. Had 2 pop out on the other end of the field 350ish yards away. They milled about for a while then went back in the woods. Bout an hour later a catch them making a b line right at me in the field on the edge of the woods. They get to about 170 yards and duck into the woods. Haven’t seen em since. 21. My weather app lied to me I was surprised to find that it was only 28 degrees and not 42. I didn’t see a single deer on the drive in this morning. I’m sitting over a large field with a food plot right in front of me hoping they come out for a late breakfast. Haven’t seen anything yet Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. Slow start for myself this morning. Not super motivated. Todays weather will be like all the other days I’ve hunted and haven’t seen anything. 42 degrees right now and only getting warmer with a high of 65. If I had more days to hunt I’d probably skip today but when time is limited you hunt when you can. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. Very nice! I’d count him as a seven point Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
