I have cut them up frozen before, its not that bad. The fat takes a little longer to trim, but if you are grinding the whole thing, theres not as much to worry about.

can you explain why hunters would want to shorten gun season?
WNYBuckHunter replied to Robhuntandfish's topic in Deer Hunting
Or one of those air powered jobs. The Parker something or other. No effort necessary. -
LMAO, Im so glad hunters like you arent in charge of the rules. I want them to go to a one buck rule, regardless of full inclusion, as long as they also get rid of any type of doe tag that allows you to shoot a doe in any WMU, and go to all antlerless tags being dished out the way DMPs are currently. For those of you that say "but they dont hand DMPs out in my zone", well, part of that is due to the fact that they have to take those either sex tags into account when they try and figure how many antlerless deer will be harvested in that WMU each year. It would be a big help for them to properly manage the heard.

Yes, the things you have pointed out have been said by SOME people that bowhunt, but they are a minority. You are grouping a whole crap load of hunters that do not see things that way in with a few elitists. I could honestly give two shits what your opinion of people that bowhunt is, but I will call BS on the type of nonsense you spew. -
IT. We have a data center there.

So after the buck went through we had a button come through. I told Haley to stand up and get ready. He was making his way down a trail that goes past the stand at 10 yards. At about 30 he veered off the trail and started milling around eating acorns. He stayed there for a while, then moved to 25 yards and hung up there for a while. Haley was shaking like crazy the whole time. He started moving toward the plot at 20 yards, got behind a tree and I told Her to draw. She drew, I stopped Him and she punched the trigger. I watched as the arrow flew and then all of a sudden deflected down and hit the ground right behind his front feet. He took a couple of bounds and stopped to look around. I told Her to get another arrow ready and see if he would give her another chance. He moved I to The plot but never got into Range. We got down and found her arrow. There was a small thorn bush right there that she didn’t see. I’m thinking she nicked it and that caused the miss. Bow season is done for us. On to gun when I get Back from Nashville.

Been saving this set for Haley. Bumped 2 off the plot on the way in. Camera shows lots of evening activity.

A very broad brush indeed. The vocal minority is what you keep referring to. How many members of this site are there, and how many members say the things you are talking about? Same goes for other sites and social media. I have No blinders about these things. Through my personal dealings with people in hunting related groups, various deer camps, and on the internet, I have Seen that the vast majority of hunters do not segregate themselves. Sure, if a few websites is all you are going off of, I might Be able to see what you are saying, but the majority of hunters in general don’t really participate in forums, etc. -
I dont Really have control of when I have To travel.

If you could re-write the seasons...
WNYBuckHunter replied to nybuckboy's topic in General Chit Chat
NZ I’m not going to comment on, I dont Hunt there and don’t pretend to know what it’s like. It’s too different from the SZ. SZ Archery (all types of bows) - oct 1 - Saturday before thanksgiving Regular gun - Saturday before Thanksgiving for 14 days One week of completely closed Regular gun - 7 days Muzzlaloader/Archery - 10 days For areas that have a need for more antlerless take, any special season would be unscoped muzzleloader only, and would be decided upon year to year. Tag structure - 1 buck tag to be used in any season. All antlerless tags go to same structure as current dmps. All tags must be called in, filled or unfilled. If you don’t report all of your tags, you don’t get a lisence the following year. All deer must be checked in at a DEC check (can be done at processors, DEC offices, any store that sells lisences, etc). -

Man you sure are painting with a broad brush. I dont Really know many guys that hunt exclusively with a bow and only call themselves a bow hunter. The vast majority just say they are hunters and hunt both seasons. Do bow hunting elitists exist? Absolutely, but they are a rather small percentage of the overall bow hunting community. -

What I would Like to see would be a split gun season. 2 weeks of gun, a week of completely closed, then another week of regular gun, then a week and a half of muzzleloader/bow. That would give the deer a bit of a break to settle down and most guys wouldn’t lose much time in the woods. -
I use the same hooks as I do with my compound, usually just a small simple bow hook. Most of my sets are in clump trees, so you have multiple trunks. I try to set them up so that I can put a hook on a trunk thats off to the side, close to the stand. I am not a fan of having my bow hang away from the tree like with those sectioned hooks. I will see if I can find a pic of one of our clump tree sets.

I would be glad for him. Bummed that the deer is gone and I can no longer hunt it, but thats about it. Let me ask you this...You put in hours in the offseason growing plots, putting in stands and scouting. You hunt hard all of bow and it just doesn't work out. Your neighbor does none of this and walks out his back door and shoots the big 10 you were targeting with his compound. Now he did it all legally without any of the work. You're happy because he scored, but deep down you're not just a little annoyed?
-
I can get my compound off the hook with one hand on the grip, so all I have to do is get it into position, clip my release on and draw. The crossbow is more awkward to get off the hook and get your hands on the grip and forearm and get it pointed at the deer. Just illustrating that it isnt as easy as some try and make it out to be, thats all.

Is that an aluminum arrow? congrats on the deer, good call.
