  1. Well I finished Things for work up early and I’ll be heading home tomorrow morning. Looks like I’ll make it into the woods Sunday!
  2. I always Hang orange on the top of my blinds when I am In them during gun season just in case. Everyone knows where they are and they don’t shoot in that direction. Sounds like those guys are the type that don’t pay much attention to the background of where they are shooting.
  3. I’m almost glad I’m sitting in an airport headed for Nashville and won’t be back in NY till late Sunday. Weekend is looking like crap, and I’ll bet most of the guys on our farms will either stay in or only be out for a little bit in the morning.
  4. He’s talking about high grading. Basically it happens when you are constantly shooting larger racked young bucks, which have the better genetics. That leaves the smaller racked bucks, with less than ideal genetics to do the breeding. Over the span of many years of doing this, all you are left with is a herd with inferior genetics, resulting in smaller racks, even in older deer.
  5. Yep, youre done playing because you dont have a clue what you are talking about and Im posting facts....
  6. You can say its BS all you want, but you are wrong, and its been proven. You can take a look at mineral maps, then look at P&Y and B&C harvest maps. It all lines up. Ask farmers why crops grow so well in certain areas and not so well in others. Its not coincidence. As for the open fields statement, what do you think happens out west when they harvest the crops? LMAO Theres lots of room for improvement here in NY, but you need to be realistic in your expectations.
  7. Not necessarily. Most of the state doesnt have the soil and mineral conditions, let alone AG to even come close to competing with the mid west. The finger lakes region is an exception to that, but with some of the highest hunter densities in the nation, deer are heavily pressured. Also, the way the land is broken up into relatively small properties, lots of roads, etc compared to the mid west, keeps limits on what NY's potential is. Stop comparing it to Illinois, we will never get there with the exception of one or two regions.
  8. Wrong. Straight from the Ill DNR regulation book. They can take 2 bucks and unlimited does, but each doe requires a permit. People out there also have a way better handle on how they need to manage their local herds and their properties.
  9. So what are the specifics for your self imposed ARs? Is that the only thing you are doing? No habitat work, etc?
  10. Or maybe most of the guys that have seen no sign of the rut just plain arent hunting the right areas. I can tell you, that out of 1000+ acres of private land that I hunt, on any given day in the thick of the rut, only maybe 100 acres of it total, are prime rutting areas. Deer dont run willy nilly all over every inch of land during the rut, they tend to concentrate their activity in certain areas. Sure, you might see some chasing here and there in other areas once in a while, but heavy rut activity mostly takes place in certain places. For example, I could be hunting a stand and see 3 bucks chasing hard, does running around, the whole 9 yards. My buddy could be hunting the same property, at the same time, just a few hundred yards away and tell me that every deer on the farm has disappeared into a black hole because he hasnt seen a hair.
  11. Heres a good chasing sequence for you
  12. If anyone takes offense to being called a weekend warrior, then they probably would have voted for Bernie Sanders. I didnt say they were slobs, slackers or anything like that.
  13. I could watch that commercial over and over and over....
  14. Easy, because deer that are less pressured, tend to be more visible. Split the gun season up a bit, and the weekend warrirors wouldnt actually miss much time in the woods, and youd basically have multiple opening days. Plenty of other states do it that way and it works for them, why not here?
  15. Maybe it had 50lbs of ticks on it that jumped off The buck I shot this year had a much larger body than that and it came in at around 180
  16. Btw, I’m not even sure how many times I’ve been to Nashville, never met anyone famous there except the Don
  17. I know Luke Bryan has 2 or 3 leases. One is in Iowa, another in Texas and I think another in Kentucky. I’d hunt with that guy any day. Just seems like a great guy.
  18. Wasn’t the guy that set this up charged with something?
  19. They dont need to, theres no debating that they are better than Chevy and Ford.
  20. Its all good till one of those legs comes off the gambrel
  21. This fawn is the only one I have ever seen with spots this late in the season. Im guessing the doe had to have been bred very late for this to happen. The time is one hour off, but the date is right. I was pretty surprised to see this.
  22. Youll get doe tags. You probably need WMU 8H or 8F depending where in Mendon you are hunting (North or South of the Thruway). If you cant get any, shoot me a message, Ill get a couple and sign them over to you. I use alot of farm tags and didnt even bother to get my extras yet this year.
